If the GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro is unavailable or its configuration does not fit your workload, the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 is the closest direct alternative for buyers who want a premium AMD AI mini PC with user-upgradeable memory and several M.2 slots. The Beelink SER9 Pro is a better office-first choice if you value a compact chassis and meeting features, but its reviewed memory is soldered. Within GMKtec’s own range, the EVO-X2 is the step-up option currently shown in stock on the company’s EU collection page.
Choose by workload and configuration rather than by the words “AI PC.” Local model speed depends on the model and quantization, available memory, software, power limits and cooling. The same product name can also cover different RAM, SSD, operating-system and regional packages, so compare the exact SKU and delivered price before ordering.
Which GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro alternatives are worth considering?
The shortlist below covers the genuinely different buying paths: a direct AMD competitor, an office-focused compact system, a same-brand upgrade, a premium alternative with variable configurations, an Intel kit, and two deliberately different options for tight budgets or discrete-graphics gaming.
| Model | Best fit | Key evidence and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 | Local AI, development, creative multitasking | Reviewed with Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and Radeon 890M; the tested system used socketed DDR5 and three M.2 slots, giving it more expansion flexibility. Chassis size and the exact RAM/SSD package vary by SKU. |
| Beelink SER9 Pro | Office work, calls and general productivity | HX 370 configurations, Radeon 880M and meeting-oriented voice features. The reviewed 32GB memory was soldered, although storage can be expanded. |
| GMKtec EVO-X2 | Buyers who want to stay with GMKtec | Listed with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and shown in stock on GMKtec’s EU collection at the time checked. Stock, price and configuration are regional and changeable. |
| GEEKOM A9 Max | Another premium AMD mini-PC design | Current comparisons include HX 370 and HX 470 versions. Confirm the processor, memory, storage and ports on the exact local listing. |
| ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ | Configurable Intel compact desktop | Often sold as a kit. Add memory, storage, operating system and setup costs before comparing its total with a preconfigured AMD PC. |
| GMKtec M6 Ultra or AceMagic K1 | Lower-cost everyday computing | Lower performance tiers suited to ordinary office use, not equivalent replacements for a high-end local-AI workstation. |
| ASUS ROG NUC | Gaming with discrete graphics | A larger, gaming-oriented system. Compare GPU performance, dimensions and total cost rather than treating it as a tiny office-box substitute. |
For most buyers, start with the first three rows. The remaining systems make sense only when a specific trade-off—Intel configurability, a different AMD chassis, a lower price or a discrete GPU—matters more than matching the EVO-X1 Pro category.

Is the GMKtec EVO-X1 Pro available, and what does that mean for alternatives?
GMKtec’s EU AI-PC collection currently identifies the EVO-X1 Pro as an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 mini PC and marks it sold out. The same collection shows the EVO-X2, built around Ryzen AI Max+ 395, as in stock. That is a live EU listing, not proof of worldwide availability, a permanent price or stock in North America and other regions.
Check the regional store that will actually fulfill your order. Currency, tax, shipping, warranty handling, keyboard layout, operating-system license and memory or SSD options can all differ. A supposedly cheaper imported unit may lose its advantage after shipping and local tax, while a locally stocked alternative may include easier returns.
What the listing does and does not establish
- It establishes the product name, the HX 470 processor family associated with the Pro listing and the observed EU stock state.
- It does not establish a universal RAM capacity, SSD size, port layout, power limit, fan behavior or chassis measurement for every EVO-X1 Pro SKU.
- It does not turn the EVO-X2 listing into a performance result; the newer processor and different platform require their own configuration and testing.
What is actually known about the EVO-X1 Pro’s specifications?
Do not copy specifications from the earlier GMKtec EVO-X1 review into an EVO-X1 Pro buying decision. Notebookcheck’s reviewed EVO-X1 used a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, Radeon 890M graphics, 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB NVMe drive. That review also documents OCuLink. Those are useful family-context facts, but they are not a verified Pro specification sheet.

The distinction matters because a processor suffix, memory type and expansion design can change the practical result. A Pro listing with HX 470 should be checked for its own memory arrangement, maximum capacity, number of M.2 sockets, USB4 and display outputs, network controller, power adapter and operating system. If the seller does not state a detail, treat it as unknown rather than assuming the earlier EVO-X1’s design.
How does the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 compare?
The MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 is the strongest like-for-like alternative when your priority is a high-end AMD AI mini PC that can grow with your workload. TechRadar’s reviewed configuration paired a Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 with Radeon 890M graphics. Its reviewed system used socketed DDR5 memory and three M.2 slots, a substantial advantage for local models, virtual machines and large project libraries.
Why its upgrade path matters
Local inference can consume memory quickly: the model, operating system, application, context window and graphics allocation all compete for capacity. Socketed memory lets you replace or enlarge modules later, provided the exact board supports the desired capacity and speed. Multiple M.2 sockets also let you add a second drive for models, games or scratch files instead of replacing the boot drive.
Confirm that the shop’s configuration matches the reviewed unit. Review conclusions apply to the tested RAM, SSD, firmware and power settings, not automatically to every retail bundle. A smaller-memory or single-drive package may be a very different purchase even when the model name is identical.

Is the Beelink SER9 Pro better for office work?
It can be, if your day is dominated by documents, browsers, video calls and general multitasking rather than the largest local models. The SER9 Pro appears in HX 370 configurations with Radeon 880M graphics and includes meeting-oriented voice features. That positioning makes it a sensible compact office computer, especially when a quiet, tidy desk setup matters more than maximum upgrade potential.
The important limitation is memory. TechRadar’s reviewed SER9 Pro had 32GB of soldered memory. A buying guide lists support for up to 32GB of LPDDR5X and storage expansion to 8TB, but those are listed or guide specifications; verify the seller’s exact configuration. Soldered RAM cannot be replaced with larger modules later, so select enough memory at purchase for the machine’s expected service life.
When the SER9 Pro is the safer fit
- Your workload is Microsoft 365 or equivalent office software, web applications, coding, calls and light photo work.
- You prefer a compact system with integrated meeting features and do not plan to run unusually large models.
- You can live with fixed memory and will expand storage rather than RAM.
Should you buy the GMKtec EVO-X2 instead?
The EVO-X2 is the logical same-brand alternative when the EVO-X1 Pro is unavailable and the EU collection shows the newer model in stock. It is listed with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, placing it in a different processor tier from the HX 470 Pro listing. That may appeal to buyers who want the newest platform available from the same vendor.
Do not infer real-world speed, noise or local-model capacity from the processor name alone. Verify the exact memory technology and capacity, storage layout, ports, power envelope, cooling design, operating system and warranty in your market. The EU stock indication is time-sensitive, and a regional listing may use a different bundle or price.

Are GEEKOM A9 Max and ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ good alternatives?
GEEKOM A9 Max
The A9 Max belongs on a premium comparison list, but current comparison material includes more than one processor version, including HX 370 and HX 470 references. Confirm which SKU you are viewing before comparing it with the EVO-X1 Pro. Check memory upgradeability, M.2 count, USB4, display outputs and the included power supply alongside the CPU.
ASUS NUC 15 Pro+
The NUC 15 Pro+ is a configurable Intel compact desktop rather than a direct AMD-for-AMD substitute. Kit pricing can look attractive because the box may not include RAM, an SSD or an operating system. Add those items, plus installation and any required wireless or mounting accessories, to get a fair total. Its appeal is platform choice and configurability, not a guaranteed local-AI advantage.
Which alternative fits your workload?
Start with the task that would make you regret buying the wrong machine. A high processor label is less useful than enough memory, storage and sustained cooling for the software you actually run.

Office multitasking and remote work
For browsers, office suites, calls and line-of-business applications, the SER9 Pro’s office orientation may be more valuable than maximum AI throughput. The MINISFORUM system also works well, but its expansion potential may be unnecessary if your workload will remain light. Prioritize 32GB when you routinely keep many browser tabs, large spreadsheets and conferencing software open together.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsLocal AI and developer tools
Choose the system with the memory capacity and upgrade path you can afford, not merely the “AI PC” badge. Socketed memory in the reviewed MINISFORUM system gives it a practical advantage for future expansion. The EVO-X2 may offer a newer platform, but confirm its memory configuration before assuming it can hold a larger model.
Model requirements vary by parameter count, quantization, context length and runtime. A model that loads at one quantization may fail at another, and a model that fits in memory can still run slowly when the system is power- or thermally limited. Treat live comparison sites’ speed, price and availability figures as estimates rather than controlled benchmarks.
Creative applications
Photo catalogs, code builds, audio projects and 4K video work stress different parts of a mini PC. Check sustained cooling, SSD capacity and scratch-disk options. Multiple M.2 slots are useful when project files and cache data should live on separate drives. For GPU-accelerated applications, confirm that the software supports the integrated Radeon graphics you are buying.
Gaming
Integrated Radeon graphics can handle some games, but a buyer seeking modern high-resolution or ray-traced gaming should consider a discrete-graphics system such as the ASUS ROG NUC. It is larger and more specialized, so compare the actual game resolution and frame-rate target with the space and budget available.
How should you compare two mini PCs fairly?
Use the same checklist for every candidate. It prevents a high headline specification from hiding a weaker configuration.
- Write down the workload. Name the applications, local models, game resolution or project sizes that matter. “AI” is not a measurable requirement until you identify the model and runtime.
- Match processor and graphics configuration. Record the exact CPU, integrated GPU, memory type and advertised power setting. Do not compare an HX 470 review unit with an HX 370 retail bundle as if they were identical.
- Check memory capacity and upgradeability. Note whether RAM is soldered or socketed, the installed amount, the maximum supported capacity and whether one slot is occupied.
- Count storage options. Record each M.2 slot’s interface, the installed drive, supported sizes and whether adding a drive disables another connector. The MINISFORUM review describes three M.2 slots in its tested system; verify the current SKU.
- List ports you will actually use. Compare USB4, ordinary USB, display outputs, Ethernet, audio, card readers and OCuLink. A port has value only when it matches a real accessory or workflow.
- Evaluate sustained behavior. Look for long-load noise, temperature and power information, not only a short benchmark. No matched noise or sustained-load test has been established across this shortlist.
- Calculate delivered cost. Use one country and currency. Include RAM, SSD, operating system, tax, shipping, warranty and any kit components before declaring a winner.
- Confirm return and support terms. A mini PC is harder to return when imported, modified or fitted with third-party parts. Save the exact listing and configuration at purchase.
How important are memory and storage for local AI?
Memory is usually the first constraint. The operating system and applications need room before a model is loaded, and longer prompts or larger context windows increase runtime memory use. Integrated graphics may also reserve system memory. If the model barely fits, background applications can trigger swapping and make the system feel unusable.

Socketed DDR5, as described for the reviewed MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470, gives you a route to more capacity later. Soldered LPDDR5X, as reported for the reviewed SER9 Pro and earlier EVO-X1, can be efficient but fixes the capacity at purchase. Neither design guarantees a particular model will run; check the runtime’s supported quantization and memory guidance.
Storage is a separate issue. Model files can occupy tens or hundreds of gigabytes, and updates often need temporary free space. A second M.2 drive can keep the operating-system disk from filling, but verify whether the slot supports the desired PCIe generation and physical drive length.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What do USB4 and OCuLink add?
USB4 can connect fast storage, docks and displays, but the device and cable must support the speed and features you need. OCuLink is more specialized: it can provide a direct external-PCIe path for compatible external GPU enclosures or other expansion hardware. Notebookcheck documents OCuLink on the EVO-X1 family review, and TechRadar documents it on the reviewed MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470.
OCuLink does not turn a mini PC into a gaming tower by itself. You still need an enclosure or adapter, a graphics card, a power supply and driver support. Compare the combined cost and desk space with buying a system that already includes discrete graphics.
What are the common buying mistakes?
- Confusing EVO-X1 with EVO-X1 Pro: the HX 370, 32GB soldered LPDDR5X and 1TB NVMe figures belong to a reviewed EVO-X1 unit, not a verified Pro configuration.
- Assuming every HX 470 system is the same: memory, SSD, firmware and power limits can vary by seller and region.
- Paying for unused expansion: extra M.2 slots and OCuLink matter only if you will add drives or external hardware.
- Ignoring soldered memory: a fixed 32GB package may be fine for office work but restrictive for future local-model use.
- Comparing kit and ready-to-use prices: an Intel kit requires RAM, storage and often an operating system.
- Using short benchmarks as noise proof: a brief run does not establish quiet behavior during a long compile, render or inference session.
- Treating live stock as permanent: the EU collection’s sold-out or in-stock labels can change without notice and do not describe other markets.
Which compact PC should you choose?
Choose the MINISFORUM AI X1 Pro-470 when expansion is central to the purchase and the exact retail configuration includes the memory and SSD capacity you need. Choose the Beelink SER9 Pro for a compact, office-oriented system when fixed memory is acceptable. Choose the GMKtec EVO-X2 when you want a same-brand option and your regional listing confirms the newer platform, warranty and total cost. Consider the GEEKOM, ASUS NUC, budget-tier and gaming systems only when their specific trade-off answers a requirement the first three do not.
What should you verify before placing the order?
- Exact processor and integrated-graphics model in the regional listing.
- Installed RAM, memory type, whether it is soldered, and the supported maximum.
- SSD capacity, drive interface, number of usable M.2 slots and included heatsinks.
- USB4, display, Ethernet, wireless, audio and OCuLink availability.
- Power adapter rating, operating-system edition and keyboard or plug variant.
- Delivered price in your currency, including tax and shipping.
- Warranty length, seller location, return window and who pays return shipping.
- Whether the listed stock status applies to the exact configuration you selected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a 32GB mini PC run local language models comfortably?
It can run models whose quantized files and runtime overhead fit within the available memory, but “32GB” is not a universal capacity promise. Leave headroom for the operating system, applications, context window and graphics reservation; a model that technically loads may still respond slowly under memory pressure.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Does adding an external GPU through OCuLink make a mini PC equivalent to a desktop tower?
No. OCuLink can reduce the interface bottleneck for a compatible external GPU, but you still need an enclosure, power supply, graphics card and suitable drivers. The combined cost, cable arrangement and external hardware can outweigh the space savings.
Is soldered RAM a deal-breaker for a work computer?
Not necessarily. Fixed memory is reasonable when your applications and expected lifespan fit the factory capacity, but it removes the cheapest future upgrade. Choose a larger factory configuration if you cannot replace the system soon or expect heavier local-model workloads.
How can I confirm that a mini PC’s warranty applies in my country?
Read the regional seller’s warranty and returns page before payment, then check who handles repairs and whether shipping is covered in both directions. Save the product page, selected configuration and invoice because marketplace listings can change after purchase.
