Plan for about 111.31 GB for the standard PS5 edition of Ghost of Yōtei, or about 124.19 GB for Complete Edition. Those are current US third-party PS5 metadata figures reported in 2026, not a storage number published on Sony’s official game page. If you have not chosen an edition, reserve roughly 125 GB and leave additional room for whatever installation or update prompt your console displays.
An older figure of 85.119 GB came from a September 2025 pre-release listing for version 01.002.000. It is useful historical context, but it should not be your current planning number.

Use 111.31 GB as the current planning figure for the standard PS5 listing. This number comes from PSPrices metadata collected in 2026. Sony’s official game page identifies the PS5 platform and the available purchase formats, but it does not publish a competing current GB figure.

Complete Edition: 124.19 GB
Complete Edition is listed at 124.19 GB. Sony describes this edition as including the base game, the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion, Most Wanted mode, cosmetic items and other bonuses. The extra content explains why its listing is larger, although Sony has not published a byte-by-byte breakdown of the difference.
Why do some pages still say 85 GB?
The 85 GB number is an earlier, build-specific figure rather than evidence that the finished standard edition fits in 85 GB. In September 2025, the PlayStation Game Size account reported 85.119 GB for version 01.002.000, before the later edition-specific metadata listings appeared.
The dated version number and the newer 111.31 GB and 124.19 GB listings support treating 85.119 GB as a pre-release snapshot. Sony has not published a change log explaining every byte added between those figures, so it is more accurate to describe the difference as a change between builds and listings than to claim a particular patch, texture pack or language file caused it.

For a purchase made now, use 111.31 GB for Standard Edition and 124.19 GB for Complete Edition. Keep the 85.119 GB figure only when interpreting older screenshots, social posts or storage guides published before release.
How much free space should you leave on the PS5?
The reported 111.31 GB and 124.19 GB figures are the best available edition-specific planning numbers, but they are not a universal promise of the temporary space your console will request. Installation and patching can depend on the edition, the installed build, the update being applied and the free space already available on that particular PS5.

No reviewed source publishes one fixed extra-space allowance that applies to every console. The reliable rule is to keep more than the listed game size available and follow the exact requirement shown in the PS5 installation prompt. If the prompt requests more space than the metadata figure, use the prompt as the immediate requirement for that download or update.
A practical buffer
Readers who have not confirmed an edition should treat about 125 GB plus additional headroom as the safer planning target. That is a planning recommendation, not a Sony minimum. It prevents the common mistake of reserving exactly 111.31 GB and then discovering that an update or temporary installation process needs more room.

Does the PS5 disc version still use internal storage?
Yes. Buying a Blu-ray copy is a purchase-format decision, not proof that the game occupies no internal storage. Sony’s direct store lists Ghost of Yotei – PS5 Standard Edition as a PS5 Blu-ray product, while the official game page presents both physical and digital editions.
The reviewed official pages do not publish separate installed-size figures for disc ownership and digital ownership. Therefore, there is no supported basis for promising that the disc version uses materially less internal storage. A disc can provide the license and installation source, but the PS5 still needs substantial space for the installed game data and any updates the console applies.

If you are deciding between formats because of storage, budget for the same general range—roughly 111 GB for Standard Edition or 124 GB for Complete Edition—until Sony publishes a format-specific figure.

You have two practical choices: remove or move existing content to create room, or add an internal M.2 expansion drive that meets Sony’s requirements. The first option costs nothing but requires deciding which games or apps can leave the console. The second adds capacity without relying on the usable space of the original internal drive.
Free space by removing existing content
- Check the free-space indicator before starting the download.
- Compare that amount with the edition figure shown in the store or library listing, then allow additional room for the installation prompt.
- Remove games or applications you no longer need if the console reports insufficient space.
- Recheck the available space before retrying the download or update.
Do not use the old 85.119 GB figure as the threshold for a current installation. Doing so can leave too little room even for the standard listing.
Add a compatible internal M.2 SSD
Sony’s PS5 guidance supports a commercially available M.2 SSD for game and app data. The documented capacity range is 250 GB to 4 TB. The drive must be a PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe model that fits Sony’s specified M.2 dimensions and uses an appropriate heat-dissipation solution, such as a compatible heatsink.
A 1 TB drive or larger is sensible editorial guidance for comfortable headroom beyond a 111–124 GB installation, but 1 TB is not Sony’s minimum. The official lower capacity is 250 GB; compatibility, dimensions and heat management still determine whether a specific drive is suitable.

Sony’s Safety Guide summarizes the purpose of the expansion this way: “You can use a commercially available M.2 SSD in your PS5 console for more storage for your game and app data.” Follow the installation procedure and compatibility checks in Sony’s current PS5 documentation before buying or fitting a drive.
How should you plan storage before buying?
Start with the edition you intend to own, then use the corresponding current metadata figure. The following sequence avoids both underestimating the download and buying expansion capacity you do not need immediately.
- Identify the edition. Check whether the store listing says Standard Edition or Complete Edition. Complete Edition has the larger 124.19 GB listing.
- Reserve the reported size. Set aside 111.31 GB for Standard Edition or 124.19 GB for Complete Edition.
- Add headroom. Leave extra free space beyond that figure because the universal temporary installation requirement is not published.
- Use the console’s prompt. If the PS5 requests more space during installation or patching, treat that on-screen requirement as authoritative for your current build and console state.
- Choose a remedy. Delete or move existing content for a one-off installation, or use a Sony-compatible M.2 NVMe expansion drive if you want more permanent capacity.
This approach also works when buying a physical copy. The disc does not provide a reason to lower the storage allowance, because Sony has not supplied a separate disc-install figure.
