If your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will not pair, start by checking that it is the official BEE-008 model, then pair it by USB-C or from HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order using the SYNC button. Dark player LEDs can mean the controller needs charging, while LEDs that flash in sequence and turn off mean it needs pairing. Work through the checks below before treating the controller as faulty.
What should I check first when my Switch 2 Pro Controller will not connect?
First confirm that the controller is a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, model BEE-008, and check what its player LEDs do. The controller is compatible only with Nintendo Switch 2; it cannot pair with an original Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, or Switch Lite.
Look on the back of the controller, directly beneath the Nintendo logo, for the model number. Nintendo says replacing a controller that is not BEE-008 with an official BEE-008 may resolve a pairing issue. If you have a third-party pad, contact its manufacturer: Nintendo’s instructions for the official controller do not establish how another maker’s controller should pair.
Before changing settings, check the basics: make sure the console is on, the controller has charge, and Bluetooth audio is not limiting the number of wireless controllers. Then try a wired pairing. It gives you a way to distinguish a pairing or radio problem from a controller that will not wake or charge.

What do the player LEDs mean?
On the HOME Menu, press any button on the Pro Controller and watch the player LEDs. Their behavior gives a quick indication of whether the controller is paired, needs pairing, or has no power.
- One or more player LEDs blink and stay lit: the controller is paired. If it still does not control the game or console, check whether the software supports the controller and whether another connection limit or setting is involved.
- The LEDs light in sequence, then turn off: the controller needs to be paired. Nintendo’s power guidance says, “If the player LEDs turn on momentarily and shut off, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will need to be paired.”
- No player LEDs light: the controller may be out of power. Charge it before continuing with pairing steps.
Do not confuse the player LEDs with the recharge LED. If the recharge LED indicates that the controller is charging but the player LEDs still will not turn on, Nintendo advises charging for 15 to 30 minutes and then trying to pair again.
How do I pair the Pro Controller with a USB-C cable?
Nintendo documents two wired pairing routes: connect the controller to the dock while the console is docked, or connect it directly to the console. Start with the USB-C cable included with the Pro Controller. Regional Nintendo support pages identify different cable model numbers, so use the in-box cable first rather than relying on a cable number from another region.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Pair through the dock
- Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in its dock and turn the console on.
- Connect the Pro Controller to a USB port on the dock using the included USB-C charging cable.
- Press A or another button on the controller to wake it and pair it.
Nintendo’s Americas support article specifies the dock with a LAN port and names the included cable as HAC-010; Singapore support refers to BEE-016 for the dock connection. Other regional instructions simply say to use the included USB-C charging cable. The practical first step is the same: connect the controller to the dock with its supplied cable and press a button.
Pair directly to the console
- Power on the console.
- Connect the Pro Controller to the console with the included USB-C cable.
Singapore support identifies the direct-console cable as BEE-011 and says this connection automatically changes to a wired connection. Cable labels vary across regional support material; if a cable does not work, try another known-good USB-C cable rather than assuming the controller is incompatible.

If a wired connection works, the controller is at least communicating over USB. You can continue using it wired while you check wireless pairing, Bluetooth-audio limits, or interference. If USB does not work, try the troubleshooting ladder below before concluding that the controller needs service.
How do I pair wirelessly with the SYNC button?
Use the console’s controller pairing screen, then hold SYNC for at least one second. In most English-language Nintendo instructions, the screen is called Change Grip/Order; some Asian Nintendo support pages call the equivalent screen Connect Controllers.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
- Select Change Grip/Order.
- Press and hold the controller’s SYNC button for at least one second.
- Wait for the player LED or LEDs for the assigned player number to remain lit.
Some regional instructions instead say to hold SYNC until the four player LEDs light in turn, release it, and wait for “Paired” to appear. If that message appears, press A and then HOME to return to the HOME Menu. These are regional wording differences for the wireless pairing process, not separate controller modes.
If the controller was recently used with another Switch 2 console, pair it again with the console you want to use. Nintendo Singapore notes that pairing is needed again each time the controller is used with a different console.
What is the full troubleshooting order if pairing still fails?
Follow the steps in order, trying both USB and wireless pairing before arranging service. This sequence checks console software, controller identity, power, cables, ports, saved pairing information, firmware, and radio conditions.

- Update the console. From the HOME Menu, open System Settings > System > System Update and install any available update. If the console is already current, restart it: hold POWER for at least three seconds, choose Power Options, then Restart. A brief press of POWER only puts the console to sleep.
- Confirm the controller model. Check the label on the back beneath the Nintendo logo. The official Switch 2 Pro Controller is BEE-008. For third-party controllers, use the maker’s support instructions.
- Try docked USB pairing. Dock and power on the console, connect the controller with its included USB-C cable, and press A or another button.
- Wake the controller and retry USB. If the wired attempt fails, press SYNC once, then press A or another button. Try a different USB port on the dock, then a different USB-C cable. If available, test with another dock. If only the original dock’s USB ports fail, follow Nintendo’s support guidance for USB ports not working on the Switch 2 dock.
- Try wireless pairing. Open HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order and hold SYNC for at least one second.
- Reconnect or re-pair a wireless controller. If the controller was connected but is no longer responding, Nintendo Singapore suggests tapping SYNC briefly a few times to disconnect it, then pressing A, B, X, Y, or the +Control Pad to reconnect. If that does not work, pair it again.
- Clear pairing information only if needed. Go to HOME > System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Disconnect Controllers, then pair the Pro Controller again. This can disconnect all wireless controllers, not just the problem pad, so keep Joy-Con 2 or another working input available.
- Charge the controller. If its LEDs are dark or it shuts off immediately, use the charging steps below before repeating the pairing process.
- Update controller firmware. Once the console is current and the controller is powered on and paired, go to System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Update Controllers. Update multiple controllers one at a time. If an update stops, run it again.
- Reduce wireless interference and check controller limits. Move closer to the console, reposition it away from metal and other wireless devices, and disconnect Bluetooth audio if you are trying to connect a third wireless controller.
If the controller will not pair by USB-C or wirelessly after these steps, Nintendo says it needs assessment or service through regional Nintendo support. Do not skip straight to replacement before trying both connection methods and checking power, cables, and ports.

Why does Bluetooth audio stop another controller from connecting?
When a Bluetooth audio device is connected, Nintendo limits the console to two wireless controllers. A left Joy-Con 2 counts as one controller and a right Joy-Con 2 counts as another. Disconnect Bluetooth headphones or speakers to connect a third wireless controller.
Nintendo’s pairing support pages say that Switch 2 can support up to eight wireless controllers, subject to controller type, features, and the software being played. The Bluetooth-audio limit is a separate restriction: the general eight-controller figure does not apply while Bluetooth audio is connected. If a controller will not join a multiplayer session, check the game’s supported player count as well as the system’s connection limit.
Headphones connected to the Switch 2 Pro Controller’s 3.5 mm jack have a separate behavior. Singapore support says console or TV audio is not output while headphones are connected to the controller. It also says that when headphones are used on a wireless Switch 2 Pro Controller, other controllers cannot be connected wirelessly until those headphones are unplugged.
How do I fix a Pro Controller that will not turn on or charge?
A controller with no player LEDs may simply need a charge. Use the Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, directly with the controller, or charge through a powered dock. The recharge LED stays lit while charging and turns off when charging is complete.

- Inspect the USB-C cable for cuts, kinks, or fraying. If the controller does not charge, try a different cable.
- Connect the NGN-01 adapter directly to the Pro Controller. If the recharge LED does not light, test the adapter with the console.
- Alternatively, connect the controller to a dock USB port with the dock powered. Regional guidance differs on the console’s state: Americas support says the console does not need to be docked for the controller to charge from the dock’s USB port and adapter, while Singapore says a console sitting in the dock but powered off will not charge the controller from that dock. If dock charging fails, use the direct adapter route.
- After charging for 15 to 30 minutes, press a button and check the player LEDs again.
Nintendo’s Americas support article says, “The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge.” Its Singapore support material also says about three hours, while the Singapore specifications page lists about 3.5 hours. In practical terms, allow about 3 to 3.5 hours for a full charge, depending on conditions and which Nintendo page’s estimate applies. The specifications page gives battery life as approximately 40 hours and cautions: “This time is an estimate. Actual time may vary depending on usage conditions.”
The specifications list a 1,070 mAh lithium-ion battery that is not user-replaceable. If the player LEDs still will not turn on after a 15-to-30-minute charge, or the battery does not last after charging for at least six hours, Nintendo directs users to service. Battery replacement requires an Authorized Nintendo Service Center.
Could wireless interference be causing the connection problem?
Yes. A controller may pair inconsistently if the console is too far away or surrounded by objects and devices that interfere with wireless communication. Move closer to the console and place it in an open position rather than behind a television, under metal, or inside a metal rack.
Nintendo Australia advises keeping the console at least three to four feet from wireless speakers, cordless phones, and similar devices. Singapore support also calls out microwave ovens and cordless phones, and recommends removing a non-licensed cover from the console or controller if one is fitted. Move nearby wireless equipment away temporarily and test again; if the controller pairs after repositioning, the issue is more likely environmental than a failed pairing record.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan I use an original Switch Pro Controller on Switch 2?
Yes. The original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can be used wirelessly with Switch 2, but it is not the same product as the Switch 2 Pro Controller and some features differ. The new Switch 2 Pro Controller, model BEE-008, cannot be used with the original Switch family.

There is also a wired-connection distinction for the original Switch Pro Controller. Plugging it into Switch 2 by USB does not automatically switch it to a wired connection. To enable wired communication, go to HOME > System Settings > Controllers & Accessories and turn on Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Wired Communication.
Original Switch controllers used on Switch 2 also have limitations: pressing HOME will not wake the Switch 2 console from sleep, and those controllers cannot use the Switch 2 features “Search for Controllers” or “Alarm.” Nintendo’s note about a maximum of seven wireless connections applies when using original Switch controllers; it is distinct from the up-to-eight figure on Switch 2 Pro Controller pairing support pages. The original Joy-Con can connect wirelessly but cannot attach to Switch 2 rails.
When should I contact Nintendo for service?
Contact Nintendo support for your region if the BEE-008 controller still will not pair over USB-C or wirelessly after the update, cable, port, dock, charging, and re-pairing checks. Nintendo’s Americas guidance states: “If the Pro Controller cannot be paired to the Nintendo Switch 2 console, either wirelessly or via the USB-C charging cable, the Pro Controller will need to be serviced.”
Service is also appropriate if the player LEDs remain off after charging for 15 to 30 minutes, if the controller will not charge with a known-good adapter and cable, or if its battery will not last after at least six hours of charging. Repair intake and service options vary by region, so use Nintendo support in the country where you live. If service confirms the controller needs replacement, look for the official product by its full name, Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, and check for model BEE-008; do not buy an original Switch Pro Controller expecting it to work with the new console in reverse.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Switch 2 Pro Controller wake the console from sleep?
Yes, the Switch 2 Pro Controller is designed for the Switch 2, but a controller that has lost pairing may need to be reconnected before it can control the console. The wake limitation Nintendo documents applies to original Nintendo Switch controllers used on Switch 2, not the BEE-008 pad.
Why does the Switch 2 Pro Controller connect to one console but not another?
A Pro Controller may need to be paired again after being used with a different Switch 2 console. The saved wireless connection is not a permanent multi-console pairing that automatically follows the controller.
Can I leave the Pro Controller plugged in while playing?
Yes. When connected to the console or dock by USB-C, it can operate as a wired controller; Singapore support specifically describes the direct-console connection as switching automatically to wired mode. A USB connection on the original Switch Pro Controller has a different setting requirement.
