The Xbox offer is the clearest low-cost official purchase in the late-October 2026 figures, but it is temporary and US pricing should not be assumed in other regions. If you already subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate, check whether the game remains in the EA Play catalogue before buying; catalogue access can change. For PlayStation, the official digital edition is the straightforward choice if that is your only console. On PC, decide whether the Steam library and Steam Deck support are worth the extra launcher step, or whether you would rather use EA’s own app.

What does Legendary Edition include?
Electronic Arts, Steam, and Xbox describe the package as the three single-player trilogy games and “over 40 DLC,” including promotional weapons, armor, and packs, remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD. The original release date was 14 May 2021, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One; PS5 and Xbox Series X|S play it through compatibility with those original console versions.

What is missing from the collection?
Three omissions matter most to buyers: Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and its multiplayer DLC, the Mass Effect 1 expansion Pinnacle Station, and Mass Effect: Andromeda. The first two are not part of the Legendary Edition package; Andromeda is a separate game.
- Mass Effect 3 multiplayer: The multiplayer mode and its associated DLC were left out. Reports from PCGamingWiki, the Mass Effect Wiki, and TechSpot attribute the omission to time and logistical constraints.
- Pinnacle Station: This original-game DLC is absent because its source code was lost or corrupted. Mass Effect Wiki reports that game director Mac Walters described the cut as “heartbreaking”; rebuilding it was estimated to add about six months.
- Andromeda: This is a separate title sold for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. It is not an expansion or fourth game included in the trilogy bundle.
- Other exclusions: The M-597 Ladon from the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3: Special Edition is not included. Nor does the collection include an unreleased future Mass Effect game.
The old PC-only Mass Effect Trilogy box is also not another name for this remaster: it contains the pre-remaster games. Check the product title carefully if you are buying an older PC listing.
Is Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Game Pass?
On Xbox, the game is available through EA Play, which is included with Game Pass Ultimate. It is also listed as playable in the cloud for Ultimate subscribers. On PC, EA Play access is available through the EA App, Steam, and Epic; PCGamingWiki also lists Microsoft Store access through Xbox Game Pass for PC as part of EA Play.

Subscription access is not the same as owning a permanent copy. The inclusion can change, and as of 23 October 2026 EA had not announced store delistings or server shutdowns following its BioWare closure announcement. Check the catalogue on the platform you plan to use before subscribing solely for this game. If the title is absent from your subscription or you want to keep access independently, buy it from the relevant store.
How do Xbox, PlayStation, and PC versions differ?
Xbox and PlayStation are simpler to set up; PC has more display options and granular settings, with the trade-off of an extra launcher and account. On newer consoles, the available technical modes are broadly similar, but the PS5 version remains the PS4 build rather than a separately rebuilt native PS5 edition.
Xbox: the best value in the cited October sale
The Xbox Store labels the game “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” and supports Smart Delivery, HDR10, spatial sound, cloud saves, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Series consoles were measured running the Xbox One build through backwards compatibility, despite Microsoft’s Series optimization label. Xbox One X can hold 4K in Quality mode; Xbox One S is the less capable last-generation option, at 1080p to 1440 × 810 in the cited analysis.
PlayStation: straightforward if your console is a PS4 or PS5
The edition sold for PlayStation is the PS4 game. PS5 runs it through backwards compatibility; there is no separately rebuilt native PS5 executable in this release. The cited analysis found PS5 Quality mode matched Series X at 4K, while Favor Framerate was 1440p at 60 frames per second. The official European PlayStation Store listing was €69.99 on 29 October 2026. Because that is far above the cited Xbox sale price, compare the PlayStation Store price in your region and wait for an official sale if you are not in a hurry.

Avoid cheap offers that provide a shared account login rather than a game key for your own account. GoCDKeys cautioned that the less expensive offers it found were account listings, not a recommended inexpensive PlayStation key. Account-sharing arrangements can leave you dependent on someone else’s credentials or access.

PC is the flexible choice for adjustable graphics, 21:9 support, HDR, and a frame-rate cap of up to 240 frames per second. Steam lists full controller support and Steam Deck compatibility as “Playable.” Prefer Steam if you want its library features, reviews, or Deck interface; choose the EA App if you already use EA’s launcher, or consider EA Play access through a service you already have. Epic is another store option, but its version requires linking EA and Epic accounts.
Whatever the storefront, PC copies require an EA Account and EA App installation and background use. Steam’s listing specifies EA online activation and the EA App; an Xbox key does not unlock the PC version. Denuvo Anti-Tamper was removed on 7 June 2021, according to PCGamingWiki, but that does not remove the EA App DRM requirement. Steam’s UK listing price was £49.99 at the cited access time. Buy a disc for a reason you value—such as collecting or having a physical copy—not because a PS4 price spike proves that the game is about to disappear digitally. EA announced on 21 October 2026 that it would close BioWare’s Edmonton studio and workspace and stop work on the next Mass Effect project. As of 23 October, no store delisting or server shutdown had been announced; the Legendary Edition is a single-player game and does not depend on BioWare live operations.
October reporting by ComicBook and EiNerd described a sharp rise in sealed PS4 listings after the closure news: listings exceeded $100, with multiple reported sales around $125. The same coverage put sealed PS4 copies at about $45 and used copies near $20 earlier in 2026. By contrast, Xbox One copies remained around $20 in the cited reporting. The numbers are secondary-market examples, not official prices or a guarantee of what a copy will sell for.
