The Gemini app rolling out “scheduled actions” to AI Pro and AI Ultra is not a new August 2026 launch: Google introduced the feature on June 6, 2025, and now documents it as an available capability for eligible Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, and qualifying Workspace users. Scheduled actions generate one-time or recurring AI briefings at a chosen time.

The feature is useful, but its name can make it sound more powerful than it is. Gemini can prepare a scheduled response—such as a news digest, calendar overview, or weekly idea list—but scheduled actions are not a guarantee that Gemini will complete arbitrary transactions, edit every connected Google service, or provide live alerts.

Key takeaways

  • Gemini scheduled actions let eligible users schedule a prompt-driven response once or on a recurring daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
  • Personal-account access currently requires Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra and Keep Activity enabled; qualifying Workspace business and education accounts may also be eligible.
  • Google limits users to up to 10 active scheduled actions, although inactive or paused actions are different from active schedules.
  • Gemini prepares scheduled responses during the hour before delivery, so scheduled actions are unsuitable for live stock prices, breaking alerts, severe-weather warnings, or other time-critical information.
  • The feature was announced on June 6, 2025, and Google’s February 12, 2026 release notes list scheduled actions as an available capability rather than a brand-new August 2026 launch.

What are Gemini scheduled actions?

Gemini scheduled actions let an eligible user give Gemini an instruction, specify when it should run, and receive the resulting AI-generated response at that time. The instruction can run once or repeat on a schedule.

For example, a user could ask Gemini to prepare a weekday morning overview of the day’s Google Calendar events, generate five technology-writing ideas every Monday, or summarize selected topics in a recurring briefing. A one-time action could ask for a recap after a conference or other event.

In practical terms, a scheduled action has four parts:

  1. Prompt: what Gemini should research, summarize, generate, or organize.
  2. Timing: the date and time when Gemini should prepare the response.
  3. Recurrence: whether the task runs once or repeats daily, weekly, or monthly.
  4. Delivery: the supported Gemini experience through which the prepared response becomes available.

Google describes scheduled actions as a way to turn Gemini into a recurring routine instead of requiring the user to submit the same prompt manually. The official Gemini scheduled-actions documentation explains the feature’s setup, account requirements, limits, and management controls.

Is Gemini scheduled actions available now?

Yes, scheduled actions are a real Gemini feature, but “rolling out” describes the original 2025 introduction rather than a fresh August 2026 launch.

Date or status What happened What it means
June 6, 2025 Google announced scheduled actions for Gemini. The feature began rolling out to Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, and qualifying Workspace business and education users.
February 12, 2026 Google’s release notes listed scheduled actions as an available Gemini capability. The feature remained part of the live product rather than being only an announcement.
August 18, 2026 Current Google help documentation describes eligibility and usage requirements. Access depends on the account, plan, settings, connected apps, country, language, and Workspace policies.

Google’s June 6, 2025 announcement is therefore useful for the launch history and examples, while the current help page is the better source for present-day requirements. Availability can still vary because Google may enable features differently by account type, region, language, connected service, or staged deployment.

Who can use Gemini scheduled actions?

Personal Google Accounts currently need a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription, with Keep Activity enabled. Qualifying work and school accounts may also have access through supported Google Workspace editions, but Workspace eligibility is not universal.

Personal accounts

For a personal account, Google’s current documentation identifies these key requirements:

  • A personal Google Account.
  • An active Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription.
  • Keep Activity turned on.

Google’s Gemini plans and limits documentation lists scheduled actions under the paid Google AI plans. The current documentation does not establish scheduled actions as a feature of the free Gemini tier, so free users should not assume that upgrading the app or reinstalling it will provide access.

Work and school accounts

Qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans may support scheduled actions. The exact result depends on the Workspace edition and administrator configuration. A work or school user may therefore be on an organization with Gemini access but still be unable to create scheduled actions if the relevant feature or connected-app permission is restricted.

Why might an eligible user still not see the feature?

A paid subscription alone does not guarantee identical access in every account. Check the signed-in Google Account, country, language, Keep Activity setting, Workspace administrator policies, and connected-app availability. Google’s documentation also describes a computer setup flow, so the web interface may be the clearest place to test access even if the user normally uses the mobile Gemini app.

What can Gemini scheduled actions do?

Scheduled actions are best suited to recurring AI-generated briefings, summaries, planning help, and creative prompts rather than guaranteed external operations.

Use case Example schedule What Gemini can prepare
Daily briefing Every weekday morning A prompt-defined overview of selected topics, such as technology news.
Calendar and email overview Every morning A summary of calendar events and unread email when the relevant Google apps are connected and available.
Creative routine Every Monday Blog ideas, writing prompts, study suggestions, or other generated material.
Sports update Weekly A recurring update about a selected sports team or topic.
One-time recap After a specified event A single summary, such as a post-event or award-show recap.
Location-specific information Every morning Information for a named location, such as a weather prompt for Denver, Colorado.

These are prompt-driven outputs. A scheduled action should not be described as an unrestricted autonomous agent that can browse anywhere, send arbitrary messages, edit every document, purchase something, transfer money, or complete any other real-world task without the relevant product support and permissions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do you create a Gemini scheduled action?

The officially documented computer workflow starts at Gemini on the web: sign in with an eligible account, enter a prompt containing the task and schedule, and review Gemini’s confirmation or summary.

  1. Open Gemini at gemini.google.com on a computer.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that has Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, or qualifying Workspace access.
  3. Write a prompt that states what Gemini should do, when it should do it, and whether the action repeats.
  4. Add the desired time zone, start date, output format, length, and connected-app scope where relevant.
  5. Submit the prompt.
  6. Review Gemini’s description of the scheduled action. Confirm or save the action if Gemini requests confirmation.

Clear timing is important. “Send me a morning update” leaves room for interpretation, while “Every weekday at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, starting tomorrow” gives Gemini substantially more useful scheduling information.

Prompt examples

Every weekday at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, summarize my Google Calendar for the day and list the three most important preparation tasks.
Every Monday at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time, give me five original ideas for articles about consumer technology. Keep each idea under 100 words and avoid repeating ideas from previous weeks.
Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, give me a concise summary of the major developments from the technology conference and include links to the most important sources.
Every morning at 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time, give me the weather forecast for Denver, Colorado. Do not use my current location.

The examples are prompt templates, not guaranteed command syntax. Gemini may interpret an ambiguous request differently from what the user intended, so inspect the resulting schedule before relying on it.

How should a scheduled-action prompt be written?

A reliable scheduled-action prompt identifies the time zone, recurrence, scope, and expected output instead of leaving those details implicit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Prompt detail Weak wording Better wording
Time “In the morning” “At 7:00 a.m.”
Time zone “At 7:00” “At 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time”
Recurrence “Keep doing this” “Every weekday, starting tomorrow”
Output size “Give me news” “Write five bullet points and keep the response under 300 words”
Scope “Summarize my messages” “Summarize unread Gmail messages from the past 24 hours, if Gmail is connected”
Location “Give me the local forecast” “Give me the forecast for Denver, Colorado”

If the action uses personal data, specify the relevant service and the boundaries of the request. A user should also avoid putting sensitive information into a recurring prompt unless the user understands the account, connected-app, and activity settings involved.

How do you edit, pause, resume, or delete a scheduled action?

Gemini provides scheduled-action controls in its settings area, and Google also documents editing an action through the conversation in which the action was created.

  • Edit: change the schedule, timing, or instructions from the scheduled-actions area or by asking Gemini to edit the action in its scheduled-action conversation.
  • Pause or turn off: stop the action from running without necessarily deleting its setup.
  • Resume: turn a paused or automatically disabled action back on when the control is available.
  • Delete: remove the action; a deleted schedule must be recreated if the user wants it again.

Google limits an account to up to 10 active scheduled actions. “Ten active actions” is not the same as “10 total schedules”: a user should review inactive, paused, or automatically disabled actions before assuming that every stored item counts in the same way. The Google support page for scheduled actions documents the active-action limit and management options.

What happens when a scheduled action uses Gmail or Calendar?

A scheduled prompt that depends on Gmail, Google Calendar, or another Google app needs the relevant service to be connected or enabled for Gemini, and Workspace administrators may restrict that connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Having Google AI Pro or Ultra does not automatically give every Gemini session unrestricted access to every Google service. Before creating a calendar or email digest, confirm that:

  • The relevant Google app is available to the account.
  • The app is connected or enabled for Gemini.
  • The account has permission to use the requested data.
  • A Workspace administrator has not blocked the integration.
  • The schedule still has authorization if permissions changed after the action was created.

A connected service may allow Gemini to read or summarize information without giving Gemini unrestricted authority to edit documents, change calendar entries, send email, or perform other write operations. Users should verify the exact capability for the specific account and app instead of treating “connected” as equivalent to full control.

If a scheduled action produces an incomplete response, a disconnected app, changed permissions, Workspace policy, unavailable data, or an unsupported operation may be responsible. Google’s documentation establishes the connected-app requirement, but it does not promise unrestricted Gmail, Calendar, Docs, or Workspace automation.

Are Gemini scheduled actions real-time?

No. Gemini prepares a scheduled response in advance, generally during the hour before the selected delivery time, so the response may be stale by the time it arrives.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google specifically warns that rapidly changing information, including stock prices, may not be current. This processing model makes scheduled actions suitable for routine briefings but unsuitable for information that must reflect events occurring seconds or minutes before delivery.

Good fit Poor fit Why
Daily or weekly summaries Live stock prices The response may be prepared before the latest price change.
Recurring brainstorming Breaking-news alerts A scheduled response is not a guaranteed immediate alert.
Planning prompts Severe-weather warnings High-stakes safety information needs a dedicated current-alert source.
Non-urgent reference digests Time-sensitive security alerts Delay or stale information could materially affect the decision.
Routine content ideas Real-time traffic or transport changes Conditions can change after Gemini prepares the response.

For live or high-stakes information, use a service designed for current alerts and treat any Gemini summary as supplementary rather than authoritative.

How does location work in a scheduled action?

A location-based scheduled action uses the location associated with the place where the action was created unless the user specifies or later changes the location.

This behavior matters when a user travels, moves between cities, has multiple homes, or created an action while connected through a VPN. A prompt such as “give me the local forecast” can produce an unexpected result after travel. Naming the location directly is safer:

To use a different location, update the existing action with a specific location or create a new action. Do not assume that Gemini will automatically replace the original location with the user’s current location.

Why might a Gemini scheduled action stop running?

Google says a scheduled action may be automatically turned off because of inactivity, and users can turn it back on. Other interruptions can result from account, subscription, permission, policy, or data-access changes.

Scheduled-action troubleshooting checklist

  1. Check the account: confirm Gemini is signed in to the intended Google Account rather than a different personal or Workspace account.
  2. Check eligibility: verify that the personal account still has Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra, or ask a Workspace administrator whether the organization’s edition supports the feature.
  3. Check Keep Activity: Google requires Keep Activity to be enabled for personal-account scheduled actions.
  4. Check the action list: make sure the action still exists and has not been deleted, paused, or automatically disabled because of inactivity.
  5. Check the active limit: review whether the account already has up to 10 active scheduled actions.
  6. Check connected apps: reconnect Gmail, Calendar, or another required service if access was removed or authorization changed.
  7. Check Workspace policy: organization administrators may change Gemini or connected-app access without the user changing the schedule.
  8. Check the prompt: edit ambiguous timing, unsupported requests, missing locations, or unclear output requirements.
  9. Check freshness expectations: determine whether the task depended on information that Gemini could not reliably retrieve or that changed after pre-delivery preparation.

Reinstalling the mobile app is unlikely to resolve an account-level eligibility, Keep Activity, subscription, or Workspace-policy problem. Test the action from Gemini on the web and inspect the account and settings first.

Are scheduled actions autonomous agents?

Not in the broad sense of the term. Gemini scheduled actions are best understood as scheduled prompt execution and response delivery, not as unrestricted agents that independently perform any task a user could describe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The distinction is important:

Capability Gemini scheduled action General-purpose autonomous workflow
Runs at a chosen time Yes, for a one-time or recurring prompt-driven response. Usually, with configurable triggers.
Generates text or a briefing Yes, when Gemini can access the required information. Often, depending on the platform.
Reads connected Google data May do so when the app is connected and permitted. Can use configured data sources and APIs.
Edits or sends information automatically Not guaranteed; connected access does not imply unrestricted write authority. May be possible when explicitly configured and authorized.
Provides live, guaranteed alerts No; responses are prepared in advance. May be possible with a dedicated alerting system.
Runs complex branching workflows Not what the documented feature promises. A core use case for automation platforms.

Keeping the categories separate prevents a common buying mistake. Someone who wants a daily personalized digest may find scheduled actions useful. Someone who needs a purchase, financial transfer, customer notification, or audited business process needs a more deterministic tool.

Are Google AI Pro or Ultra worth paying for scheduled actions?

Scheduled actions alone are unlikely to justify a Google AI subscription for a user who only needs reminders or occasional chatbot answers. The subscription makes more sense when the user also values Gemini’s broader capabilities and Google ecosystem integrations.

Google’s U.S. subscription page showed Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month and Google AI Ultra starting at $99.99 per month on August 18, 2026; the same page also showed a higher-priced Ultra option. Prices, promotions, billing options, and plan contents can change, so check the current Google AI subscription page before purchasing.

Option Who it suits Scheduled-action verdict
Free Gemini access Users who want occasional AI help without a paid plan. Do not assume scheduled actions are included; current Google documentation places the feature under paid plans.
Google AI Pro Google ecosystem users who want recurring briefings plus broader Gemini access and plan benefits. The more sensible paid tier if scheduled actions are useful and the other Pro benefits matter.
Google AI Ultra Heavy Gemini users, creators, developers, or buyers seeking the broader premium bundle and higher limits. Hard to justify for scheduled actions alone; consider Ultra for the complete package, not this feature in isolation.
Qualifying Workspace plan Organizations whose edition and administrator settings support scheduled actions. Check the Workspace edition and admin policy before buying an individual consumer plan.

For a reader already invested in Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Google Photos, and other Google services, Pro may offer a more coherent value proposition because scheduled briefings can use the same ecosystem. For a reader who only wants a dependable alarm, a conventional calendar or reminder app is a better and cheaper fit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do scheduled actions compare with reminders and automation tools?

Gemini scheduled actions occupy the middle ground between a conventional reminder and a multi-step automation platform: they add AI-generated content to a schedule, but they do not promise the deterministic execution of a workflow engine.

Tool type Best for Main advantage Main limitation
Gemini scheduled actions Recurring AI summaries, planning, and idea generation. Natural-language prompts and personalized generated responses. Responses can vary, may be stale, and are limited to documented capabilities.
Calendar or reminder app Appointments, alarms, deadlines, and recurring tasks. Simple, deterministic scheduling. Usually does not synthesize information into a custom AI briefing.
Automation platform Triggers, conditions, webhooks, spreadsheets, email, and business systems. More structured multi-step workflows. More setup, connected accounts, and potentially additional costs.
General AI assistant subscription Writing, analysis, research, and work outside Google’s ecosystem. May suit users who do not depend on Google apps. Feature parity with Gemini scheduled actions must be checked separately.

Services such as Zapier or Make may be preferable for a workflow that must trigger conditions, call services, update records, or run webhooks. They are excessive for a simple weekly idea list. A regular reminder is preferable when the only requirement is “tell me to do something at 8 a.m.”

Anthropic’s official Claude Pro plan documentation and Claude plan comparison make Claude a relevant alternative for users focused on writing and analysis, but the available research does not establish that Claude Pro is a direct equivalent to Gemini scheduled actions. Do not choose between the services based on assumed feature parity.

Should you use Gemini scheduled actions?

Use Gemini scheduled actions for low-stakes routines where a useful generated briefing matters more than exact timing, perfectly repeatable output, or real-time accuracy. Daily news themes, calendar overviews, weekly brainstorming, sports summaries, and study prompts are sensible starting points.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not use scheduled actions as the sole system for live market data, emergency warnings, security alerts, critical deadlines, financial transactions, or business workflows that require guaranteed execution and an audit trail. Gemini’s pre-delivery processing and generative variability make the feature a convenience layer, not a replacement for dedicated alerting and automation systems.

The headline “Gemini app rolling out scheduled actions to AI Pro and AI Ultra” describes a real feature, but the accurate current framing is an availability and usage explainer. Google introduced scheduled actions on June 6, 2025; eligible Pro, Ultra, and Workspace users can use them where their account and settings support the capability, subject to the 10-active-action limit and the feature’s freshness and permission constraints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Gemini scheduled actions available to free Gemini users?

Google’s current documentation indicates that personal users need a Google AI subscription, with the current plan documentation specifying Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra. The available research does not establish scheduled actions as a feature of the free Gemini tier.

How many active scheduled actions can Gemini users create?

Google limits users to up to 10 active scheduled actions. Paused, inactive, automatically disabled, and deleted actions should not be described simply as 10 total schedules, because the documented limit specifically concerns active actions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do Gemini scheduled actions provide live news, prices, or weather alerts?

No. Gemini prepares scheduled responses during the hour before delivery, and Google warns that rapidly changing information such as stock prices may not be current. Use dedicated alerting services for live or high-stakes information.

Can Gemini scheduled actions send Gmail or edit Google Calendar?

A scheduled prompt may use Gmail, Calendar, or another connected Google app when the service is enabled and the account has permission, but connected access does not guarantee unrestricted editing or sending authority. Workspace administrators may also restrict the integration.

Why did a Gemini scheduled action stop running?

Google says an action may be automatically turned off because of inactivity. Users should also check Keep Activity, subscription eligibility, connected-app permissions, Workspace policies, the action’s status, the 10-active-action limit, and whether the prompt depends on unavailable or rapidly changing information.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Gemini scheduled actions are useful for recurring AI-generated briefings and low-stakes routines, not for real-time alerts or guaranteed automation. The feature launched on June 6, 2025 and is currently documented for eligible Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, and qualifying Workspace users. Before paying for a plan, make sure the broader subscription benefits—not scheduled actions alone—justify the cost.
