Volcano Princess launched on April 20, 2023, from the two-person studio Egg Hatcher (养蛋人). You are the sole guardian of a “spunky preteen” in the medieval Volcano Kingdom. Scheduling study, hobbies, jobs, etiquette and friendships is not separate from the political plot: those choices prepare a future monarch and determine how the empire develops.
The daughter can attend four major colleges or specialisms, including music, painting and martial arts/combat. When she comes of age, she may pledge herself to one of three lords and build standing among noble families. The Birdie Festival provides a major skill competition, while a dark canyon reveals ancestral secrets. More than 50 endings cover occupations and relationships, so a playthrough can end with an outstanding citizen, an ordinary life or a turn toward darkness.

Which Princess Maker game is the best match?
Princess Maker is the direct ancestor of the daughter-raising format. You assign a child’s calendar, balance study against work and rest, respond to events and discover an adult ending. It is a closer mechanical match than a general farming or relationship RPG.
Princess Maker 2 Refine — best value on PC
In Princess Maker 2 Refine, you have eight years to raise your daughter from age 10 to 18. The schedule-driven structure, stat trade-offs and wide career outcomes explain why the series is repeatedly described as the spiritual ancestor of Volcano Princess. It does not replace the empire-level noble politics: the academy, dates and personal growth are the main attractions.
Which games focus on raising a daughter without a throne?
Ciel Fledge: A Daughter Raising Simulator — sci-fi scheduling
In Ciel Fledge, you adopt a girl in a science-fiction future and plan education, hobbies, friendships and statistics. Pick it when you want a substantial single-child schedule with futuristic world-building. Skip it if court alliances, marriage routes or a light presentation are essential.
Growing Up — the child is you
Growing Up covers 18 years in 1990s America. Instead of managing a daughter from outside, you make the child’s school, social, identity and career decisions directly. There is no combat or throne; the tension comes from balancing opportunities and the person the protagonist becomes.
It is a good alternative for readers who enjoy the emotional payoff of watching choices shape adulthood but do not need medieval fantasy. Its contemporary setting also makes it a useful counterpart to Chinese Parents.
Chinese Parents — exam-culture pressure
Chinese Parents turns parenting into a cycle of academic preparation, family expectations and minigames. The cultural setting and exam emphasis are more specific than in Volcano Princess, while the absence of a royal layer keeps the focus on school performance and social pressure.

Long Live the Queen puts you in control of a 14-year-old heir whose mother has died. You train skills week by week while factions, plots and political traps close in. The result is deliberately unforgiving: the game has more than a dozen ways to die, and a failed run teaches you which training priorities and schedules to change.
Steam lists 94% positive English reviews from 4,722 users and a $9.99 price (checked October 2026). It released November 8, 2013. The cute art contrasts with political murder and repeated lethal setbacks, so this is “brutal cute,” not a cozy family story. Its short runs and many permutations make it exceptionally replayable, but players who dislike restarting after sudden deaths should choose Magical Princess or Volcano Princess instead.

Palais de Reine — court politics and otome structure
Palais de Reine is the deep-cut recommendation for readers who want a long otome game centered on kingdom-building. Court relationships and political decisions occupy more space than day-to-day child care, and its appeal is planning alliances rather than surviving a weekly death roulette.
It fits the kingdom half of Volcano Princess better than most generic life sims, but it is not a substitute for watching one daughter grow through school, work and family events.

Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall (2025) casts you as a king trying to satisfy the competing needs of a crumbling kingdom. Gameaton scored it 77/100 and describes its presentation as cinematic kingdom management. Petitions, resources and political trade-offs are central; daughter-raising is not. Pair it with Volcano Princess only when empire administration is the feature you want to expand.
Why Volcano Princess still belongs in the kingdom category
Do not send every strategy-minded player away from the original. Its three lords, noble-family standing, Birdie Festival competition and empire-level outcomes make the royal layer meaningful, even though politics are lighter than in Long Live the Queen or Yes, Your Grace 2. The unusual appeal is that the same calendar decisions improve both the child and the state.

Lullaby Days has cute presentation and roughly 70 endings, with a duckling girl standing in for the usual princess. Community comments praise the art but criticize the gameplay as shallow, so treat it as a curiosity rather than a first recommendation.
Machine Child, Daughter of Dawn and Princess Parent

What about cozy games such as Sun Haven, Persona 5 or Hogwarts Legacy?
These games can satisfy a narrower part of the appeal: calendars, friendships, school routines or a nurturing mood. They should not be your first “games like Volcano Princess” purchases because you do not raise a daughter through an eight-year or academy schedule.

Yes. Egg Hatcher’s planned Moon Princess is a wuxia-and-mythology daughter-raising game scheduled for 2027. You train a martial-arts heroine, manage activities and shape her future across 50 career endings, 20-plus relationship outcomes, 60-plus characters, more than 30 locations and three great sword sects.
The store description also lists 12 Zodiac Descendants who can become marriage partners and says the script is expected to contain two to three times as much text as Volcano Princess. The same two-person core team is developing it with a larger scope. It has no user reviews yet, so regard it as a promising follow-up rather than a current purchase.
