You can capture an entire webpage without installing an app or extension: use your desktop browser’s built-in screenshot tool, or your phone’s scrolling screenshot control. Microsoft Edge is the most direct desktop option; Chrome and Firefox also have built-in methods, while iPhone and Android offer device-level options with some content limitations. If you need repeatable captures from code instead, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server.

A full-page screenshot is different from an ordinary screenshot of the visible viewport. It includes content below the fold, so it can preserve a long article, documentation page, terms page, or landing page in one image or document. The capture is still a visual record, not an editable copy of the webpage, and each method works only where the browser or device supports the page.

Which no-install method should I use?

Choose the method already available on your device. These built-in workflows keep the task inside the browser or operating system; they avoid sending the page to a screenshot service, though a page may still behave differently depending on its content and your browser or device version.

Device or browser Best fit Setup Output or limitation
Microsoft Edge on desktop Fastest built-in desktop route Use the page context menu or Ctrl+Shift+S Copy or save; Edge documents long and moving webpages
Google Chrome on desktop Capture without leaving Chrome Open DevTools, enable Device mode, then use the screenshot menu Captures content outside the visible viewport
Mozilla Firefox on desktop Full-page capture from Developer Tools Enable the screenshot toolbar button once Saves to Downloads by default
iPhone Capture a supported webpage on the phone Take a screenshot, then select Full Page Save as an image or PDF; Safari webpages are Apple’s example
Android 12 and later Capture most scrollable screens Take a screenshot, then tap Capture more Availability depends on the screen; the control is not universal

Use Edge when you want the fewest steps on a desktop. Chrome is useful when you already work in DevTools or need to stay in Chrome. Firefox is also local and built in, but its screenshot button requires one-time setup. On a phone, use Full Page on iPhone or Capture more on Android when those controls appear.

Browser labels and feature availability can vary with browser version, device, market, and operating-system release. The steps below use the documented controls; if a label is missing, check the troubleshooting section rather than assuming your device supports every capture type.

What counts as a full-page screenshot?

A normal screenshot records only what is visible at the moment you capture it. A full-page or scrolling screenshot extends beyond that viewport and joins the rest of the page into one result. That distinction matters for long articles, receipts, support conversations, documentation, and pages whose important content appears several screens lower.

The result does not preserve the page as a live document. Links, forms, menus, animations, and other interactive behavior are represented only by their appearance at capture time. Keep the page URL alongside the image or PDF if you may need the live version later. If exact text reuse or editing is required, a screenshot is the wrong format even when it successfully includes the whole page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Prepare the page before capturing

  • Open the exact URL and wait for the page to finish its initial load.
  • Dismiss any banner or dialog that hides the content you need, when the page allows it.
  • Scroll through the page once if important images or sections appear only after scrolling. Lazy-loaded content can depend on how the page is rendered.
  • Confirm that you are signed in if the page requires an existing browser session. The built-in instructions do not promise identical behavior for every login-protected page.
  • Decide whether you need an image for sharing or a PDF for filing. iPhone explicitly offers those two destinations; desktop browsers save or copy according to their own controls.

After capture, inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the result. A complete-looking file can still omit a late-loading image, duplicate a sticky header, or render a moving section differently from the live page.

How do I screenshot an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge?

Edge has a built-in Screenshot feature that can capture content beyond the visible screen, including long or moving webpages, according to Microsoft’s documentation. It is generally the shortest desktop workflow because the command is available from the page itself or a keyboard shortcut.

  1. Open the webpage in Edge on your desktop.
  2. Right-click the page and choose Screenshot. If that option is not available in the context menu, press Ctrl+Shift+S.
  3. Choose the full-page capture option in the Screenshot interface. Do not stop at a selection of the visible viewport if you need everything below the fold.
  4. Review the capture, then copy or save it using the controls shown.

Edge is the most direct desktop choice in this guide because it exposes Screenshot from the page menu or keyboard shortcut. Microsoft notes that menus and availability can vary, so the exact interface may differ by version or device. If the page is unusually long or contains moving elements, allow the capture to finish and then inspect the saved result rather than assuming the first preview is complete.

Because Edge lets you copy or save the result, you can put the capture directly into a document or keep a file for later. Copying is convenient for a quick handoff; saving is preferable when you need a durable file, a filename, or a record that can be checked again.

How do I take a full-page screenshot in Chrome?

Chrome’s DevTools can capture the full page without an extension. The relevant command is Capture a full size screenshot, which Chrome documents as including content beyond the visible viewport.

  1. Open the page in Chrome on your desktop.
  2. Open Developer Tools (DevTools). You can use Chrome’s menu to find the developer tools, or use the keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
  3. In DevTools, turn on Device mode using the device-toolbar control. The screenshot command is exposed from this mode.
  4. Open the DevTools options menu and choose the screenshot option, then select Capture a full size screenshot.
  5. Open the saved capture from your browser’s download location.

Chrome’s workflow takes more setup than Edge’s context-menu route, but it keeps the capture in Chrome and does not require an installed extension. The wording matters: Capture a full size screenshot is the command for the page, while an ordinary screenshot command may record only the current viewport.

If the full-size command is not visible, confirm that DevTools is open and Device mode is enabled before looking for it in the options menu. If you changed the page after opening DevTools, reload it and try again, then check the downloaded file from top to bottom. Chrome’s documented capability covers content outside the viewport, but it does not promise that every dynamically rendered page will look identical to its live version.

How do I capture the entire page in Firefox?

Firefox includes a Developer Tools screenshot control, but you must enable its toolbar button before using it. Mozilla documents both full-page and single-element screenshots.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the webpage in Firefox and open Developer Tools.
  2. Open Developer Tools Settings.
  3. Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
  4. Close or leave Settings, then click the new screenshot icon in the Developer Tools toolbar.
  5. Find the saved capture in Firefox’s Downloads directory, the default save location documented by Mozilla.

The one-time settings step is the main difference from Edge. Once the button is enabled, the icon gives you a repeatable way to capture a page without adding an extension. Keep the browser’s Downloads location in mind when you cannot find the file immediately.

If you only need one part of a page, Firefox’s screenshot feature can also capture a single element; select the element-capture workflow rather than the entire-page option. For a whole webpage, use the control whose label explicitly says entire page, then verify that the bottom of the document is present in the saved file.

Can I save a full webpage screenshot on iPhone?

On iPhone, take a normal screenshot, open its preview, then choose Full Page for supported content. Apple gives a webpage in Safari as its example and says the capture can be saved as an image or PDF.

  1. Open the webpage, such as a supported page in Safari.
  2. Take a normal screenshot using your iPhone’s screenshot controls.
  3. Tap the screenshot preview before it disappears.
  4. Select Full Page, then review or crop the capture. The preview lets you check how far the page extends before saving.
  5. Save it to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.

Saving to Photos is useful when you want an image to share or annotate. Saving to Files as a PDF is useful when you want a document-style record. The Full Page option is for supported content; Apple’s documentation does not promise that it will appear for every app or page. If it is missing, the page or app may not support this capture mode.

Because the workflow starts with an ordinary screenshot, make sure you tap its preview and switch to Full Page rather than saving the first viewport image. Review the crop handles before saving so that you do not include unnecessary sections or cut off the final content.

How do I take a long screenshot on Android?

On Android 12 and later, take a normal screenshot and tap Capture more to extend it. Google says this works on most screens that allow scrolling, not every screen.

  1. Open the scrollable page or screen you want to capture.
  2. Take a normal screenshot using your device’s screenshot controls.
  3. Tap Capture more in the screenshot preview or toolbar.
  4. Adjust the crop guides to include the section you need. The guides let you stop before unrelated content or extend to the end of the scrollable screen.
  5. Save or share the resulting capture.

If Capture more does not appear, first check that the device runs Android 12 or later. The control is still limited to most—not all—scrollable screens, so a missing option does not necessarily mean the phone’s screenshot function is broken. Some screens simply do not expose the scrolling content in a way the system can extend.

After saving, open the result and check that the joins between visible sections look correct. Android’s control is designed for a scrollable screen, but Google’s qualification—“most screens that allow you to scroll”—means you should test the particular app or webpage you care about.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I capture a scrolling screenshot without an extension?

You do not need an extension for the supported workflows above. On desktop, use Edge Screenshot, Chrome DevTools, or Firefox Developer Tools. On a phone, use iPhone’s Full Page control or Android’s Capture more. These are browser or operating-system features rather than add-ons.

The choice is mainly about where the control lives. Edge starts from the page context menu, Chrome starts in DevTools and Device mode, and Firefox starts in Developer Tools Settings. iPhone and Android start with an ordinary screenshot and then reveal the longer-capture option. If you are helping someone else, identify the browser or operating-system release first; the same label may not exist on an older or different device.

What should I check if the screenshot is incomplete or the option is missing?

Most problems come down to an unsupported screen, a browser tool that has not been opened or enabled, or page content that behaves differently while it is captured.

  • Chrome has no full-size command: Open DevTools, switch on Device mode, and then check the screenshot options menu again. The command is exposed from that workflow, not from a normal page context menu.
  • Firefox has no screenshot icon: Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Developer Tools Settings → Available Toolbox Buttons. The button is not necessarily present until you add it.
  • Edge’s Screenshot option is absent: Try Ctrl+Shift+S. Feature availability and menus can vary by Edge version, device, and market.
  • iPhone does not show Full Page: Apple documents this for supported content, with Safari webpages as the example. Try a supported webpage rather than assuming every app can create a full-page capture.
  • Android does not show Capture more: Check the Android version and whether the screen allows scrolling. Google qualifies availability as Android 12 and later on most scrollable screens.
  • The file is hard to find: Firefox saves to Downloads by default; Edge lets you choose to copy or save; Chrome places the capture in the browser’s download location; iPhone can send it to Photos or Files. Check the destination associated with the method you used.
  • A long or moving page looks different from what you expected: Edge says its feature can handle long or moving webpages, but no method is guaranteed to render every page identically. Check the result before relying on it.
  • Images or sections are missing: Let the page load, scroll through content that appears on demand, and capture again. Lazy-loaded content can depend on rendering timing. A browser or phone control may not force every element to load.
  • A login page is incomplete: Confirm that the page is open in the intended signed-in browser session. The documented controls do not guarantee behavior for every authenticated page, so inspect the result before sharing it.

The official feature descriptions do not provide a success rate, capture-speed figure, or guarantee for every website. Treat the saved result as something to review, especially when exact page appearance matters. If a page remains unsupported or renders incorrectly, a third-party screenshot or web-archiving service is an optional fallback, but that is no longer the primary no-install browser or device workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How should I choose between the built-in methods?

Compare the options on five practical axes:

  1. Availability: Edge, Chrome, and Firefox expose desktop browser tools; iPhone and Android expose built-in device controls.
  2. Setup effort: Edge and iPhone are the most direct. Chrome requires DevTools and Device mode. Firefox requires enabling its screenshot toolbar button once.
  3. Output: Edge lets you copy or save the capture; Firefox saves to Downloads; iPhone can save an image or PDF; Android produces a scrolling screenshot that can be edited or shared.
  4. Page support: Mobile controls are limited to supported or scrollable content. Edge documents long and moving webpages, while Android explicitly limits Capture more to most scrollable screens.
  5. Privacy and convenience: The built-in workflows avoid handing the page to a third-party screenshot service and satisfy the no-install requirement. This is a practical consequence of keeping the capture in the local browser or device, not a claim that every page behaves identically.

For a one-off desktop capture, start with Edge if it is already installed. For a Chrome-only workflow, DevTools is enough. For Firefox, enable the button once and reuse it. On a phone, use the native control only when the page or screen exposes it; otherwise, the absence of the control is a support limitation rather than a prompt to keep tapping through menus.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a repeatable capture in a script or agent workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a GET request; the example below saves the response as WebP. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and setup.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Equivalent Python and Node.js examples:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Replace the example URL with the page you want and provide your API key. ScreenshotNeo’s clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses indicate page verdict and billing status in the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

For full-page captures, it can load lazy images. Other relevant options include choosing PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output; setting a wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle; choosing a viewport or device preset; and controlling caching with a TTL. The MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. These are service features rather than local browser controls, so use the built-in workflow above if you want to keep the capture in your browser or device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I capture a webpage that requires a login?

Can I use a full-page screenshot as a copy of the original webpage?

No. A screenshot records how a page appears in the capture; it is not the original webpage’s editable HTML, styles, or interactive behavior. Keep the page URL as well if you will need to revisit the live content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a full-page screenshot include content that appears only after scrolling?

Some pages load images or other elements as you scroll, so a capture can depend on when and how the page is rendered. ScreenshotNeo offers lazy-image loading for full-page captures; the built-in browser and phone documentation does not make a universal guarantee for every such page.

What is the quickest desktop way to capture an entire webpage?

Edge is the most direct option: right-click the page, choose Screenshot, select the full-page capture, and copy or save it. Ctrl+Shift+S opens the same feature when the context-menu item is unavailable.

How do I capture a scrolling screenshot without an extension?

Use Edge Screenshot, Chrome’s DevTools command Capture a full size screenshot, or Firefox’s enabled Take a screenshot of the entire page button. On phones, use iPhone Full Page or Android Capture more when the control is available.

Can I save a full webpage screenshot on iPhone as a PDF?

Yes, for supported content. After taking the screenshot and choosing Full Page, Apple’s workflow lets you save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does Android show no Capture more button?

Google documents Capture more for Android 12 and later on most screens that allow scrolling. Check both conditions; the control is not universal, so some scrollable screens will still omit it.

Where does Firefox save an entire-page screenshot?

Mozilla documents the Firefox Downloads directory as the default location. If you cannot find the file, check the browser’s Downloads view or folder.

Do built-in screenshot tools send my webpage to a third party?

The documented Edge, Chrome, Firefox, iPhone, and Android workflows run in the browser or device, so they avoid handing the page to an external screenshot service. Page behavior and support can still vary.

What should I do when the full-page image looks wrong?

Check that you selected the full-page command, let the page finish loading, and capture again after scrolling through content that appears on demand. Review the top, middle, and bottom of the saved result; no documented method guarantees identical rendering for every site.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

For the simplest desktop capture, use Edge’s Screenshot command. Chrome and Firefox can also capture a whole page without extensions, while iPhone Full Page and Android Capture more handle supported scrolling content on mobile. Always review the saved result, because support and rendering vary by browser, device, and page.
