Count the storage you can actually use
Google’s 15 GB is shared across Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. If those services already hold a large email or photo library, you have less room for new Drive files than the headline number suggests. The quota may be recoverable by deleting large email attachments or photo backups you no longer need, but do not assume all 15 GB is available for documents.
The other figures in the comparison describe the listed free cloud-storage allowances for their services. They are not directly interchangeable with Google’s shared quota unless you account for what you already store in each account.
Check device and platform fit
Choose a service that works with the phone and computer you actually use. Separate privacy from capacity
Storage size does not tell you how a service protects your files. Treat privacy and encryption as their own comparison criteria, and check the provider’s current explanation of how files are protected. Do not infer that the service with the most free gigabytes also has the strongest privacy protections.
Consider transfer and collaboration needs
MEGA’s free transfer allowance can vary, so a 20 GB storage figure does not guarantee that you can move or download that much data in a particular period. Google is a strong fit when you need to collaborate with Docs, Sheets and Slides. Consider these limits and capabilities alongside capacity if you regularly move large files or work on shared documents.

How can you get more cloud storage without paying?
Use the free space that is available efficiently, and rely on bonuses only when their conditions suit you. The practical goal is not simply to collect the largest number of accounts, but to keep enough usable space in a system you can manage.

- Start with one high-capacity account. Use the MEGA account’s listed 20 GB or another service that fits your needs before creating multiple accounts. Keeping files spread across many logins makes searching, sharing and account recovery harder.
- Check what is consuming Google’s shared quota. Include Drive files, Gmail and Google Photos in the same calculation. Removing large email attachments or photo backups may recover space if you no longer need those items.
- Treat MEGA bonus blocks as temporary. TechRadar’s 2026 information says bonus blocks may be available for specified actions. Verify their expiration and transfer conditions before counting them toward storage you need to keep long term.
- Use Dropbox referrals only under current terms. Dropbox documents referrals as a way to earn additional free space. Check the provider’s active rules before relying on a referral bonus.

Can you combine free storage from several services?

Is there truly unlimited free cloud storage?

- Estimate the space your existing library uses and identify which files need to stay readily accessible.
