Franklin Templeton has filed the final registration documents for two Nasdaq-listed exchange-traded funds that place stock dividends into bitcoin exposure: the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FBEQ) and Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FIBT). The Form N-1A amendment filed October 22, 2026, lists October 27 as the prospectus effectiveness date, while a separate Form 8-A registers both series under Exchange Act Section 12(b). Those filings establish registration and effectiveness steps—not SEC approval—and the reviewed documents do not confirm the first day of trading.
What did Franklin Templeton file, and what does it mean?
The October 22, 2026 Form N-1A amendment became effective on October 27, according to the prospectus. Franklin Templeton also filed Form 8-A registration statements for the two ETF series so their shares can be listed on Nasdaq.
“Effective” means the offering documents have completed the registration process described in the filings. It does not mean the Securities and Exchange Commission endorsed the strategy, evaluated its merits, or approved the securities. The prospectus states: “The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has not approved or disapproved these securities or passed upon the adequacy of this prospectus. Any representation to the contrary is a criminal offense.”
The documents reviewed do not state the first secondary-market trading date. Investors should wait for a Nasdaq notice or an issuer announcement before assuming either ticker is trading.

How do these ETFs turn stock dividends into bitcoin exposure?
Each fund is structured primarily as a stock portfolio with a smaller bitcoin sleeve. At inception, the underlying index targets 95% equities and 5% bitcoin exposure.
- Dividend collection: Regular and special dividends from index constituents are identified by the index.
- Bitcoin reinvestment: The index directs those amounts into bitcoin exposure at the market open on the day after each dividend’s ex-date.
- Weight control: The resulting bitcoin allocation can rise over time, but scheduled and emergency rules limit how large it becomes.
The strategy does not send coins to shareholders. The prospectus permits bitcoin-backed exchange-traded products, options and futures referencing bitcoin or bitcoin ETPs, and bitcoin-backed depositary receipts. Some exposure may be held through a wholly owned Cayman Islands subsidiary. Shareholders own ETF shares and receive the economic result of that portfolio, not bitcoin in a personal wallet.
How the bitcoin cap works
At each quarterly rebalance, any bitcoin allocation above 5% is reduced to 4.5%, with the equity allocation adjusted accordingly. If bitcoin exceeds 20% at any closing price between quarterly rebalances, the index resets the bitcoin weight to 4.5% at the close of the second business day after the breach.

What are FBEQ and FIBT?
Both products use indexes supplied by VettaFi LLC, but they target different U.S. equity universes and charge different annual operating expenses.

As of September 30, 2026, the FBEQ equity index contained 499 securities. Their market capitalizations ranged from $10.2 billion to $5.5 trillion, according to Franklin Templeton’s 2026 prospectus. FBEQ therefore provides the broader large-cap exposure, while FIBT is narrower and more concentrated in Nasdaq-listed innovation companies.
When will the Franklin Bitcoin DRIP ETFs start trading?
The effectiveness date is October 27, 2026, and the Form 8-A filings register the shares for Nasdaq listing. Neither filing reviewed here supplies a confirmed first trading session. A registration date should not be treated as proof that an order can already be entered or filled.

Before placing an order, investors should confirm that the ticker appears as tradable at their brokerage and check for a Nasdaq listing notice or Franklin Templeton trading announcement. The exchange opening date, market hours, creation activity and initial liquidity can affect execution even after registration is complete.
What risks and tax issues should investors understand?
The funds combine ordinary equity-market risk with bitcoin and derivative-market risk. The prospectus warns that investors could lose money, including through:
- Declines in the U.S. stock market or in the specific companies held by an index.
- Bitcoin’s historical price volatility and sharp drawdowns.
- Custody, operational and cybersecurity failures involving digital assets or service providers.
- Indirect exposure and tracking error when the fund uses bitcoin-backed products, derivatives or depositary receipts instead of holding spot bitcoin directly.
- Leverage, liquidity and pricing risks in options and futures.
- Concentration in information technology and the narrower, non-diversified structure of the portfolios.
- Tax rules that could force the fund to limit dividend reinvestment or sell other holdings to make required distributions.
The dividend-to-bitcoin mechanism is therefore an index rule, not a promise that every dividend will permanently increase bitcoin exposure. Tax constraints, portfolio transactions, market prices and the 4.5% reset can all change the result.

Who might consider these funds?
FBEQ may appeal to an investor seeking a broad U.S. large-cap stock allocation with a rules-based, limited bitcoin component. FIBT may suit someone comfortable with a narrower basket of Nasdaq-listed innovation companies and a higher stated expense ratio. Neither fund is a pure bitcoin vehicle: equity performance remains the dominant driver at the initial 95% allocation.
Before investing, compare the equity universe, concentration, expense ratio, permitted bitcoin instruments, reset rules and tax treatment with the role the fund would play in your portfolio. The filings do not establish a guaranteed bitcoin return, a fixed long-term bitcoin percentage or a confirmed launch date.

What happens if bitcoin rises above 20% between quarterly rebalances?
The index uses any closing price above 20% as a trigger. It resets bitcoin exposure to 4.5% at the close of the second business day after that breach, then rescales the equity allocation.
Why could the ETF’s return differ from bitcoin’s spot-price return?
The funds can obtain exposure through exchange-traded products, options, futures and depositary receipts, and may use a Cayman subsidiary. Fees, derivative pricing, roll effects, custody issues and tracking differences can separate the ETF’s result from the price of bitcoin itself.
What does a non-diversified ETF designation mean for an investor?
It permits the fund to place a larger share of assets in fewer issuers than a diversified fund would typically hold. A gain or loss in a relatively small number of companies can therefore have a greater effect on the fund’s net asset value.
