The Foxconn G33M02 is an OEM LGA775 motherboard used in Dell systems such as the Inspiron 530. Its CPU support is narrower than the socket suggests: the board is documented for selected Pentium Dual-Core and Core 2 Duo processors, not every LGA775 chip.
For the Dell version of the board, the safest upgrade is a processor from the documented support list, installed after updating the BIOS to version 1.0.15 or later. The Core 2 Duo E8400, E8500, and E8600 are among the fastest listed options, but the G33M02 should not be confused with the related DG33M03, which is the board associated with Core 2 Quad support.
Foxconn G33M02 supported CPUs
The following processors are identified in Dell documentation for the G33M02 used in systems including the Inspiron 530:

| Wolfdale-based models | E5200, E5700 |
The E5200 appears in the documentation in more than one classification, so it should be treated as one supported model rather than two different CPUs. The list is model-specific; it is not approval for all processors that physically fit the LGA775 socket.

Best G33M02 CPU upgrade
Among the documented options, the Core 2 Duo E8600 is the highest-clocked listed upgrade. The E8500 and E8400 are also practical choices and are generally easier to find used. The E7400 is a lower-cost Wolfdale-era option if the goal is simply to improve an older Pentium-based system.
Before choosing a processor, check the exact model printed on the CPU and compare it with the list. Do not select a chip solely because it has an LGA775 package or a compatible-looking number.
BIOS requirement
BIOS version 1.0.15 or later is required before installing the newer Intel processors added by the later BIOS. Check the installed BIOS version first:

- Press F2 when the Dell logo appears to enter BIOS Setup.
- Look for the BIOS revision on the main information screen.
- If the version is earlier than 1.0.15, update the BIOS before fitting a newer supported CPU.
Use the BIOS package intended for the exact Dell system and motherboard revision. Do not flash a generic BIOS from another Foxconn board. A failed or incorrect BIOS update can leave the computer unable to boot.

BIOS 1.0.18 is cited in the available Dell discussion as the newest version being used at that time. BIOS availability can vary by Dell model and support page, so identify the computer by its Service Tag before downloading an update.
Does the G33M02 support Core 2 Quad?
No reliable documentation supports treating the G33M02 as a Core 2 Quad board. The Dell/AnandTech documentation distinguishes the G33M02 from the related DG33M03:
| Board | Documented CPU capability | Hardware distinction |
|---|---|---|
| G33M02, Dell part ORY007 | Up to selected Core 2 Duo processors | Reported to use six voltage-regulator ICs |
| DG33M03 | Related board intended to support Core 2 Quad | Reported to use 11 voltage-regulator ICs |
That difference matters because the Intel G33 chipset itself is not proof that every G33-based motherboard supports a quad-core processor. A Q6600, Q8300, Q9550, or another Core 2 Quad may fit the socket, but it should not be considered a normal drop-in upgrade for the G33M02.

LGA775 describes the socket, not the complete processor compatibility requirement. The motherboard firmware must recognize the CPU, and the voltage-regulator circuitry must be designed to supply it. The processor may also require a particular front-side bus, microcode revision, stepping, or power profile.

- Intel Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
A Pentium D 915 demonstrates the problem: it was tested in a G33M02 system and produced no display. The published support list did not include that processor. A CPU that fits the socket can therefore result in a failed POST rather than a working upgrade.
How to identify the motherboard
Do not assume that every Dell Inspiron 530 contains the same board. Confirm the model before purchasing a CPU:
- Shut down the computer, disconnect the power cable, and remove the side panel.
- Look for the motherboard marking, usually printed directly on the PCB.
- Check for G33M02 and, where applicable, Dell part number ORY007.
- Compare the board marking with the Dell system model and BIOS information.
If the board is marked DG33M03 rather than G33M02, do not apply this list without checking the documentation for that board.
Historical Foxconn support-list path
The historical Foxconn product page used this navigation:
- Open the Foxconn motherboard product page.
- Select Tech Support.
- Under TYPE, select Support List.
The referenced historical URL was http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000319. That interface and URL are not confirmed to be operational today, and no currently functioning Foxconn G33M02 support-list download was verified. Use the Dell documentation and the board’s exact identification when the old Foxconn page is unavailable.
Common compatibility mistakes
- Buying any LGA775 processor: Socket compatibility does not establish BIOS or power-delivery compatibility.
- Installing a Pentium D: The reported Pentium D 915 no-display result is a warning against assuming that the older Pentium D family is supported.
- Using a Core 2 Quad: The G33M02 is not the DG33M03. The related board names are easy to confuse, especially in used systems and marketplace listings.
- Skipping the BIOS update: Newer listed CPUs may not boot until BIOS 1.0.15 or later is installed.
- Expecting VT-x: A supported CPU does not guarantee that the BIOS exposes every processor feature. An E8400-equipped G33M02 running BIOS 1.0.18 was reported to have no BIOS option for enabling Intel VT-x.
Practical installation checklist
- Record the current BIOS version and back up important files.
- Update to the correct Dell BIOS version if necessary.
- Confirm the replacement CPU is one of the documented models.
- Turn off the system, unplug it, and discharge residual power.
- Remove the heatsink, clean old thermal compound from the heatsink and CPU, and release the LGA775 socket.
- Install the processor in the keyed orientation. Do not force it into the socket.
- Apply fresh thermal compound and reinstall the heatsink evenly.
- Enter BIOS Setup after the first boot and confirm that the processor is detected.
- Run a temperature and stability check in the operating system. An old Dell heatsink, blocked vents, or a failing fan can cause shutdowns even when the CPU itself is supported.
FAQ
What is the fastest CPU supported by the Foxconn G33M02?
The Core 2 Duo E8600 is the highest-clocked model in the documented G33M02 list. The E8500 and E8400 are also listed and are common used-market alternatives.
Can I install a Core 2 Quad Q6600 in the G33M02?
It should not be treated as a supported drop-in upgrade. Documentation distinguishes the G33M02 from the DG33M03, the related board associated with Core 2 Quad support.
Does every LGA775 CPU work on this motherboard?
No. The G33M02 requires a compatible BIOS, processor model, front-side bus, stepping, and power profile. A Pentium D 915 was reported to produce no display in a G33M02 system.

Which BIOS version is needed for newer CPUs?
BIOS version 1.0.15 or later is required before installing the newer Intel processors added by the later BIOS. Verify the exact Dell system before downloading firmware.
Does the G33M02 support Intel VT-x?
Do not assume that it does. A Dell discussion reports that an E8400-equipped G33M02 on BIOS 1.0.18 did not provide a BIOS option for enabling VT-x. CPU support and BIOS feature exposure are separate issues.
How can I tell whether my Dell board is a G33M02?
Inspect the motherboard PCB for the G33M02 marking and, on the Dell version, part number ORY007. Also verify the system model and BIOS information; an Inspiron 530 can use different related boards.

The Bottom Line
For the Dell Foxconn G33M02, choose only a processor from the documented list, update to BIOS 1.0.15 or later when required, and do not assume that the LGA775 socket or Intel G33 chipset makes Core 2 Quad processors compatible. The Core 2 Duo E8400, E8500, and E8600 are the most attractive listed upgrades, while the board’s identity must be confirmed before buying any used CPU.
