What flight price tracking can—and cannot—do
Tracking gives you information to help decide when to buy. Google Flights lets you track a route or a specific flight and receive email when prices change significantly. Its “Any dates” option can follow a route across flexible dates and notify you when the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month. Google also says it may alert you when a tracked fare is likely to rise or is expiring and likely to cost more. These notifications do not book a ticket or guarantee a refund. Expedia offers a pre-booking flight Price Tracking tool as well. Expedia says its predictions are not a guarantee, so check the fare and ticket terms yourself before purchasing. Expedia Price Tracking

Google Flights Price Guarantee
Google describes Price Guarantee as a pilot for select itineraries, not a feature available on every flight. The stated conditions require U.S. region and USD settings, a U.S.-departing one-way or round-trip journey, and a matching itinerary in every component, including airline, flight number, dates, passengers, fare, cabin, and cancellation policy. The difference must exceed $5. Google states a maximum payout of $500 total per Google Account in a calendar year, sent to Google Pay after the first flight departs. Expedia Price Drop Protection
Expedia describes a paid Price Drop Protection add-on on select flights. It also offers a version at no additional cost to qualifying One Key Gold and Platinum members on select flights booked in the Expedia app. Availability depends on the flight and offer shown at booking.
For the protection it describes, Expedia checks the exact booked flight on Expedia once every 24 hours until the scheduled departure date. Its comparison considers details such as carrier, route, flight time, dates, cabin, and fare class. It does not compare prices on other sites or directly with airlines. The benefit is paid after the trip is completed, typically within seven working days, as either a price difference or OneKeyCash depending on the version. When to choose each option
Track fares if you have not booked
- Set alerts for the route and dates you would actually travel.
- If your dates are flexible, use a route-wide flexible-date option such as Google Flights’ “Any dates.”
- Use alerts to inform your decision, not as a promise that a fare will fall or stay available; recheck the live price and terms when you are ready to buy.
Consider protection only when you are ready to commit
- Check that the exact itinerary qualifies; a similar flight or a cheaper fare elsewhere may not count.
- Compare any fee with the benefit, including the comparison scope, payout form, claim requirements, and payout timing.
- Confirm whether changes to your booking affect coverage.
Check ticket rules before changing or canceling
If you are thinking about canceling and rebooking at a lower fare, read the ticket’s fare rules and the seller’s change and refund terms first. A lower price alone does not establish that canceling is free or worthwhile.

In the United States, the Department of Transportation’s refund rule addresses a carrier canceling or significantly changing a scheduled flight to, from, or within the country. A refund is required in the covered circumstances when the passenger does not accept alternative transportation or travel credits.
