If a PlayStation Store purchase, code, preorder, or add-on seems to be missing, verify the account and transaction before buying anything again. A game appearing in your library, a downloaded game file, and an account that owns a usable license are three different things. The steps below follow Sony’s US-facing PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 guidance; voucher regions and refund rights vary, so check the rules for your account’s country.
What should I check first when a PlayStation purchase is missing?
Start with the account that made the purchase or redeemed the code, then confirm that the transaction succeeded. Do not assume that a missing icon means you need to buy the game again: the item could be hidden, associated with another account, included through a subscription that has ended, or waiting to download.
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Purchases and redeemed codes are applied to the account that completes the transaction. Digital content and wallet funds cannot be transferred between accounts.
- Check Transaction History. On the web, open Account Management > Transaction History and select a date range. The online history shows the past two years by default, so widen the range for an older purchase. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History. In the PlayStation App, open the Store icon, its menu, then Transaction History. - Check subscription eligibility. If access came through PlayStation Plus, confirm that the relevant subscription and catalog access are still active. A subscription benefit is not the same as a permanent purchase.
- Then check the correct library, sharing, service status, and licenses. If those checks do not solve it, troubleshoot the download or contact support with the transaction details and error message.
This order helps separate an ownership problem from a library display issue, a download failure, or a console access setting. Restoring licenses can help with certain padlocks and missing content, but it cannot move a purchase to another account or revive an expired subscription benefit.
How do I redeem a PlayStation Store code?
First identify the code type: a standard voucher is 12 digits, while a 10-digit discount code is entered at checkout. Confirm that a voucher’s region matches the account’s PlayStation Store region, and redeem it on the account meant to receive the content or funds.

Use the route that matches your device:
- Web: select your PlayStation Store profile, then choose Redeem Code.
- PS5: open PlayStation Store, press Triangle, then choose More > Redeem Code.
- PS4: open PlayStation Store and scroll to Redeem Codes in the sidebar.
- PlayStation App: open the Store menu and choose Redeem Code.
Before submitting, check the account shown on screen, the code’s printed country or region, and every character. A code for one Store region will not redeem on an account registered in another; an account’s country or region cannot be changed. What if the code is rejected or already redeemed?
Check for a typo, an expired code, and a PlayStation service interruption. If the card says it requires activation at purchase, ask the retailer to confirm that it was activated. For a damaged code printed on a receipt, the retailer may be able to recover it; for another damaged voucher, Sony support may request proof of purchase and photos.
If the error says the code was already redeemed, inspect the transaction history and library of each account that could have received it. Codes are single-use, and redeemed funds or content cannot be moved to the account you intended. A new gift card can add funds for a new purchase, but it will not restore an earlier missing entitlement. For a child account, redeem a PlayStation Store wallet top-up voucher on the family manager’s account. Some subscription vouchers require an account payment method. For codes bought outside PlayStation Store, refund requests are governed by the seller’s policy.

A preorder is charged when placed and appears in the library, Store, and app. Its release timer lets you check or change automatic-download selections, but seeing the timer—or finishing a preload—does not mean the game has been released.
On PS5: open Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select the preordered game, then select its release countdown timer. Checked content is enabled for automatic download; clear a box to disable that content’s automatic download. For downloading in Rest Mode, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable Stay Connected to the Internet.

On PS4: open Library > Purchased, choose the preorder, select its timer, and follow the automatic-download settings. Sony’s guidance says to configure automatic downloads and set that PS4 as the primary console. PS4 rest-mode download settings are separate from the PS5 path, so follow the settings on the console you use.
Automatic download means the console downloads content when it becomes available; it does not promise one universal preload date. Check the game’s Store listing for its release date. Publishers control when some DLC and preorder bonuses become available. Sony describes the console steps in its preorder and automatic-download guide.
US preorder cancellation: stop before downloading
Sony’s US change-of-mind policy has different timing windows depending on when payment was taken. If payment occurred more than 14 days before the main product’s release, you may request cancellation before release, provided the main product has not started downloading or streaming. If payment occurred 14 days or less before release, you may request cancellation up to 14 days after payment, subject to the same no-download-or-stream condition.
Preloading counts as downloading the main product. Once the main product has begun downloading or streaming, Sony says an ordinary refund is unavailable unless the product is faulty. That makes automatic downloads a consequential setting if you are still deciding whether to cancel. For an eligible transaction, request a refund through Transaction History or contact PlayStation Support. These are US policy terms, not a blanket “14-day refund” promise; add-ons, consumables, season passes, wallet top-ups, and already-released games have distinct conditions, and applicable local-law rights remain relevant. Where should I look for a purchased game on PS5 or PS4?
Use the library for the console you are holding, and check that you are signed in to the purchasing account. A game can be owned but hidden, or you may be viewing the wrong console edition.

On PS5, check hidden-game settings if a title is absent; a game hidden in the library may appear missing across consoles. If the account owns both PS4 and PS5 editions, select the edition you mean to install on PS5. For remote downloads, the PS5 must be signed in to the purchasing account; on PS4, the console must be activated as primary and automatic downloads configured. Why is a PlayStation game locked, and should I restore licenses?
A padlock can indicate an access or license issue, but first verify the purchase account and transaction. Then check the console’s sharing settings and PlayStation service status before restoring licenses.
On PS5, the owner’s Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play controls eligible access for other users of that console. Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on one PS5 at a time. On PS4, check that the owner has activated the console as their primary PS4.
To restore licenses on PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, select the relevant licenses, and confirm. You can also open a game’s options menu and choose Restore License. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore. Sony says restoration does not affect saved data and recommends it for padlocks or missing games and add-ons. It repairs neither account ownership nor an expired subscription. Follow Sony’s license-restoration instructions.
What should I do if the game is owned but its download fails?
Treat this as a download problem only after confirming the entitlement. Check service status, system software, network connection, and available storage; then retry the failed download.

- On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads and pause, then resume, the failed download.
- If it still fails, cancel or delete the failed download entry and try again from the game library.
- Check that the console has enough free space, that its system software is current, and that PlayStation services are available.
- If basic checks fail, consult Sony’s later troubleshooting options, including Safe Mode database rebuilding. Do not treat that as the first step or as proof that a missing purchase has been restored.
PS4 has analogous download-list checks. If the issue persists, give PlayStation Support the purchase details, exact error text, the time you tried to access the item, and screenshots or video if available. Sony’s download troubleshooting guide distinguishes common console download issues.
Why is DLC or in-game currency missing?
First identify what kind of add-on it is: downloadable DLC, a season-pass entitlement, or in-game currency may appear in different places. Check the game edition and account before purchasing the add-on again.
On PS5, open Game Library > Your Collection, select the main game, then Add-Ons to inspect or download DLC. On PS4, go to Library > Purchased, select the main game, choose PlayStation Store, then Your Add-Ons. A season pass may include content released later or content that does not need a separate download. Currency generally appears after launching the game; Sony provides a PS5 Game and App Services list and a PS4 Service List for entitlements that do not download separately. The add-on and in-game currency guidance describes those cases.
Check whether the edition already includes the DLC before buying it a second time. For a disc game, Sony says the disc’s licensed country or region must match the account’s Store region for Store add-ons or currency to work. Voucher codes also need to match the account region, and the account’s country or region cannot be changed. A region mismatch is not fixed by restoring licenses.
Will more storage fix a missing PlayStation purchase?
Only if the problem is insufficient download space. Storage can hold game data, but it does not change which account owns the digital license or make another account’s purchase transferable.

On PS5, a compatible M.2 SSD can store, download, and play PS5 games. PS5 games on USB extended storage can be stored, but must be moved to console storage or a compatible M.2 SSD to play. Sony lists PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe and an effective heat-dissipation mechanism among M.2 requirements, recommends a sequential read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s, and warns it cannot guarantee every third-party drive that meets its listed specifications. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the country on my PlayStation account to redeem a code?
No. Sony says an account’s country or region cannot be changed. Use a code intended for the Store region of the account you want to receive it; a console’s physical location does not make a mismatched voucher redeemable.
Can I get a refund for money added to my PlayStation wallet?
Sony’s US cancellation policy states, “Funds added to the wallet are non-refundable.” A retailer’s separate policy may apply to a voucher bought outside PlayStation Store, so contact the seller for that code rather than treating it as a Store wallet refund.

Why did my preorder not download overnight?
Automatic downloads only occur when the content is available, and a preorder does not have a universal preload time. Confirm that the correct content is selected in the preorder timer and that the console’s automatic-download and Rest Mode internet settings are configured.
Can another person on my console play a game I bought?
Eligible access depends on the owner’s console-sharing setup: Console Sharing and Offline Play can be enabled on one PS5 at a time, while PS4 sharing depends on primary-console activation. The other user does not become the purchaser or acquire a transferable license.
