Mozilla shut the feature down on June 10, 2025, and Fakespot, the service that powered it, closed its extensions, apps, and website on July 1, 2025. Review Checker was a shopping aid for assessing review reliability, not a general-purpose Firefox security tool.
What Firefox Review Checker did
Firefox Review Checker was powered by Fakespot, which Mozilla acquired in May 2023. Fakespot used AI and machine learning to look for patterns and similarities in product reviews that might indicate untrustworthy reviews. It was intended to help shoppers evaluate review reliability, not to certify a product or guarantee that any particular review was fake. (Mozilla’s acquisition announcement)
Depending on the shopping site, the feature could show review grades, an adjusted star rating, review highlights, seller ratings, price history, and alternative products. Mozilla’s historical guide listed support for Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, Sephora, Walmart, and Shopify, while noting that features varied by site. (Mozilla’s Fakespot guide)
What its grades meant
The grade referred to the estimated reliability of a product’s reviews—not the product’s quality. Mozilla’s guide described the scale this way:

These were Fakespot’s assessments, not proof that a specific review was fabricated or that a product was good or bad. (Mozilla’s Fakespot guide; Fakespot FAQ)
When the services shut down

Mozilla Support’s explanation, last updated April 10, 2025, described the feature’s historical data flow: a request did not include the user’s identity or IP address, but did include the product identifier and the shopping-site domain. This describes how Review Checker worked while it was active; it is not a privacy statement for a current service. (Mozilla Support: How Review Checker preserves user privacy)
