For the modern story, buy Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade first and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth second. Intergrade contains the first remake game and Yuffie’s FF7R EPISODE INTERmission; Rebirth is the second installment. If you want one game containing the complete 1997 adventure, choose the original Final Fantasy VII. The third remake game, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, is scheduled for April 8, 2027, so it is a preorder rather than a released part of the story. This guide separates those choices by story, platform, ownership, storage, bonuses and edition extras.

The Twin Pack and trilogy preorder are different products: the Twin Pack is a two-game physical package, while the trilogy edition is a digital preorder built around the unreleased third game. See Square Enix’s release announcement and the Twin Pack listing for the publisher’s current terms.

Choose by the experience you want, not by assuming that “Remake” is a replacement name for the 1997 game. The original is a complete story in one release; the modern project is a substantial reimagining split across three games.

Choose Intergrade, then Rebirth
This is the best route for a newcomer who wants the modern retelling in narrative order. Intergrade covers the first installment and includes the Yuffie episode, while Rebirth continues the story as the second installment. The third game has not launched.
Choose the original Final Fantasy VII
Pick the original if you want the complete 1997 plot in a single game, the classic presentation, or a shorter route to the entire original narrative. The upgraded PC edition keeps that story and adds optional convenience features rather than turning it into the remake.
Choose Rebirth alone when platform or budget makes it necessary
Square Enix describes Rebirth as a standalone game and provides a recap, so it can be played without finishing Remake. A first-time player seeking the intended modern story order should still begin with Intergrade; the standalone label means access is possible, not that the two games tell the same portion of the story.

The physical Twin Pack is the cleanest disc-based purchase when it is in stock: it contains Intergrade, Rebirth and INTERmission. Square Enix’s direct listing showed “from $59.99” and “currently unavailable” when checked, so treat that amount as a listing figure, not a guaranteed retailer price.
Preorder the trilogy only if waiting for Revelation suits you
The announced digital trilogy preorder gives immediate access to the first two released games and is intended to add Revelation on its scheduled launch. Compare its live store contents and price with buying the first two games now; the announced $84.99 figure is not a promise that every storefront will show that price later.
What is the difference between the original FFVII and the remake project?
The original Final Fantasy VII is one finished game. The remake project retells and expands that material over three separate releases, so Remake is not the complete original game and the original is not a “complete edition” of the remake trilogy.
The upgraded original PC release on Steam preserves the 1997 adventure while offering optional 3× speed, encounter disabling and battle assists. Those settings are useful for players who want the story with less grinding, but they do not add the remake’s modern combat, new scenes or expanded structure. Square Enix reported more than 15.7 million copies sold worldwide for the original in its September 2026 announcement. That figure refers to the original game, not Rebirth sales or combined remake-trilogy sales; the same announcement also sets the announced schedule for the third remake game.
Does Intergrade include the Yuffie DLC?
Yes. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade bundles the first remake game with Yuffie’s FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. It is the usual modern starting purchase because it supplies both the base game and that additional episode in one edition.
Intergrade is listed for PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox-on-PC support for the current releases. Square Enix’s Switch 2 announcement confirms the newer platform availability; the publisher announcement is the relevant platform reference.
Do not confuse this package with the older PS4 Remake listing. A qualifying PS4 owner may be entitled to a PS5 Remake upgrade, but that upgrade should not be treated as an automatic INTERmission entitlement.
Can I start with Rebirth?
Yes. Square Enix calls Rebirth “a standalone game that welcomes fans and newcomers alike” and includes a recap. It is therefore a valid entry point when Rebirth is the only version available on your platform.
Starting with Intergrade remains the better narrative choice for someone buying the modern project from the beginning. Rebirth follows the first installment, and its recap explains prior events rather than reproducing the complete first game or its Yuffie episode.
Earlier Remake or INTERmission saves can qualify for specified Rebirth summon bonuses under Square Enix’s PS5 and PC conditions. These are bonus entitlements, not full character-progression or campaign transfers.

Is FF7 Rebirth on Xbox or Switch 2 now?
Yes. As of the October 2026 information used here, Rebirth is listed on PS5, PC, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. The same current release wave also places Intergrade on those newer platforms, so older claims that Rebirth is PS5-only are out of date.

What are the storage and performance requirements?
Storage requirements vary sharply by platform. The figures below are publisher or storefront figures, not measurements made on a particular console or computer.

Square Enix documents TV, tabletop and handheld modes for the Switch 2 versions. No reliable source figure here establishes a comparative frame rate between Switch 2, Xbox, PS5 and PC, so platform choice should not be based on an invented performance ranking.
The 130 GB Game-Key Card disclosure is specific to the future Switch 2 Revelation release. It should not be generalized to every Switch 2 Final Fantasy VII physical edition.
Does the PS5 Twin Pack include both games?
Yes. The named physical PS5 Remake Intergrade & Rebirth Twin Pack contains both released remake games and includes INTERmission. It does not include Revelation, because that game is a separate scheduled release.
The publisher’s store page showed the Twin Pack as currently unavailable when checked. If a retailer lists a copy, confirm that it is the two-game PS5 product, check the seller’s region and stock, and distinguish a new package from an individual disc.

Should you buy a standard, Deluxe or Collector’s edition?
Buy a standard edition for the games themselves. Deluxe and Collector’s editions add physical collectibles or digital extras; they are not required to access the main story.
Rebirth physical extras
The physical Deluxe edition includes an art book, mini soundtrack and SteelBook. The Square Enix Store-exclusive Collector’s edition adds a Sephiroth collectible and specified digital items. These contents are edition-specific, so read the live product page before ordering.

Revelation extras
The announced physical Deluxe edition includes a soundtrack, art book and SteelBook. Announced digital Premium editions emphasize a future Story Expansion Pass and other digital benefits. Because Revelation is still scheduled for April 8, 2027, treat those contents as preorder information subject to change.

Not necessarily. A qualifying digital PS4 owner can receive the PS5 Remake upgrade under the PlayStation listing’s terms. A qualifying PS4 disc owner needs a PS5 with a disc drive and must insert the PS4 disc to use the upgrade.
The upgrade alone should not be described as including INTERmission. PlayStation states that the episode requires the PS5 game, and qualifying owners can purchase the episode separately. Check the account and product eligibility shown in the PlayStation listing before buying another copy.
A digital-only PS5 cannot read a PS4 disc, so a disc-based upgrade path is not a substitute for checking the console hardware.

What transfers between games?
Save data can unlock specified bonuses, but the remake games do not provide a blanket transfer of campaign progress, levels, equipment or character builds.
Earlier-game save data on the relevant console or PC account can qualify for announced Rebirth summon bonuses. Square Enix has separately announced specified Revelation bonuses tied to earlier-game saves on the console or PC account used. Keep the original save on that account if you want to preserve eligibility, and do not interpret a bonus entitlement as a full save import.
Is Crisis Core Reunion part of the remake trilogy?
No. Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion is an HD-remastered prequel. It is optional context, not “part one,” “part three” or a replacement for either the original game or the remake installments.

Buy it after choosing your main route if you want a prequel focused on Zack’s story. Identify the exact platform version before purchase; Nintendo states that the Switch version has no planned Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade pack.
Which purchase mistakes should you avoid?
- Do not assume Remake is the whole original game. It is the first installment of the modern three-game reimagining.
- Do not assume Rebirth includes Remake. It is a standalone second installment with a recap, not a bundle of the first two games.
- Do not treat the Twin Pack as the trilogy. It is a two-game physical PS5 product.
- Do not call Revelation released. Square Enix announced April 8, 2027, and current purchases are preorders.
- Do not attach expired bonuses to every listing. The January 2026 Intergrade digital early-purchase offer for the original game ended January 31, 2026.
- Do not assume every Switch 2 physical edition contains the full game. The Game-Key Card and 130 GB download requirement are specifically announced for the future Switch 2 Revelation release.
- Do not assume a PS4 upgrade supplies INTERmission. Verify the episode entitlement separately.
- Do not overlook the Switch 2 Day One status. The publisher’s Switch 2 physical page showed the booster-containing Day One Edition as sold out there; the regular Standard Edition does not include that pack.
