Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is planned as the concluding game in the three-part remake project, but it will not use multiple endings. Director Naoki Hamaguchi says player choices can change progression, character-focused routes, storytelling direction, and side content before all paths converge on one definitive conclusion. The game is scheduled for April 8, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Its biggest systems include early Highwind travel, cross-region quests, the FITS job system, a larger playable roster, and more flexible minigame participation.
Does Final Fantasy 7 Revelation have multiple endings?
No. Revelation is built around one final conclusion, with variation concentrated in the journey that leads there. Hamaguchi describes it this way: “This is a game where your experience changes based on your choices, yet things ultimately converge toward a single conclusion.”
Choices may affect progression, the direction of some storytelling, character-focused experiences, and optional content. The main narrative is being protected from excessive branching by placing much of that variation in side activities and character paths. That means two players can see different sequences or spend time with different character-focused material without receiving entirely separate final endings.

Revelation should offer meaningful route differences without requiring the development team to produce several incompatible finales. The developers have not yet detailed every choice, lockout, or save-system rule, so specific examples of missable scenes should wait for a fuller pre-release guide.

How does Highwind exploration work?
The Highwind becomes available relatively early and functions as the main tool for moving among regions with different difficulty levels. Instead of treating each area as an isolated destination, Revelation lets quests begin in one region, continue in another, and finish somewhere else.
- Visited locations support fast travel.
- Unvisited destinations can be reached by flying to them or parachuting from the Highwind.
- Some locations remain inaccessible until story events change their status.
- A Weapon can make an area dangerous temporarily, turning later access into a new discovery moment.
Pico, the party’s Chocobo, also changes how familiar spaces work. Pico starts as a ground-travel companion and later gains flying and gliding abilities, opening vertical routes and making revisits mechanically different rather than simply repeating an earlier ride.
How is this different from Rebirth?
Revelation emphasizes connected, cross-region travel and changing access from the air. Rebirth is organized more around clearing individual regional maps, while Revelation uses the Highwind, linked quest routes, and later aerial abilities to make the wider world feel more continuous.

What changes in Revelation’s combat system?
Combat expands through a larger roster, richer move sets, the FITS job system, and Weapons with distinct mechanics. FITS grants additional abilities to existing characters, giving the established party more ways to develop without replacing their identities.

How do the Weapon encounters differ?
Weapons are divided between main-story encounters and optional side-content battles. Hamaguchi says story Weapons are designed to be accessible to most players, while optional Weapons are tougher and may require higher levels. Both types use distinctive mechanics and interactive elements, so difficulty is not simply a matter of adding more health.
The distinction gives the campaign a broad difficulty path: players can experience the major confrontations without treating every optional boss as mandatory endgame content, while highly prepared parties still have demanding fights to pursue.
What happens in the Sephiroth battle?
Hamaguchi has promised a climactic confrontation that exceeds the scale of the earlier remake games, calling it “a very extravagant, all-out battle.” That is a design promise from the director, not an independent quality assessment or a reported hands-on result.
Which characters receive more story?
Yuffie and Vincent are major narrative priorities, and Zack receives substantially larger playable sections. The team is using Revelation to give these characters more room than they had in the 1997 original.

Why are Yuffie and Vincent singled out?
Both were optional characters in the original Final Fantasy VII, which left them less integrated into its central story. Revelation is intended to explore their motivations and relationships in greater depth rather than treating them as peripheral additions.
How does Zack play?
Zack has more extensive playable segments, including his own combat system and skill-tree-style growth. His sections are therefore designed as a distinct playable experience, not merely brief story interludes between Cloud’s chapters.
Can you skip the minigames?
Revelation keeps a large number of minigames, but the team is reducing the pressure to complete them. Hamaguchi calls the abundance of minigames one of the original game’s defining traits; the redesign focuses on clearer rewards and lower friction rather than removing the activities.

This does not establish that every minigame is optional in every story situation. It does establish a broader policy: quantity remains high, while players have more control over whether difficulty-heavy activities dominate their progression.

When and where will Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release?
The announced release date is April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Automaton has described the broader launch window as spring 2027, so territory-specific storefront information should be checked as pre-orders open.

Does the physical edition require a download?
VGC reports that all physical versions require an additional download. The same report puts the game’s installation footprint at around 200GB, although final package details, download size, and regional physical editions can change before launch. Buyers using a console with limited free storage should plan for the disc or cartridge not to contain the complete install by itself.
What is the development status?
In June 2026, Hamaguchi said the team was playing through the game daily while smoothing rough areas, adding unfinished assets, and fixing bugs during final polishing. That indicates a late development and refinement phase, not a finished product available for review.

Will there be story DLC after Revelation?
VGC has reported two planned story DLC projects: one focused on Vincent and another on Sephiroth. Hamaguchi describes them as deeper character stories in the vein of Episode Intermission, rather than an alternative ending or a replacement for Revelation’s main conclusion.

What is Naoki Hamaguchi making next?
Hamaguchi has not announced a named post-Revelation game. He has said he wants to make another large-scale role-playing game, whether it belongs to Final Fantasy or another intellectual property. His comment that a Final Fantasy VI remake might be better assigned to another Square Enix creator should not be read as an announcement that he is developing it.
