Feels is a web app that converts your recent Spotify listening into three real outdoor places to visit. It reads a small, once-a-day sample of your playback history, runs mood and acoustic analysis locally with an open-weight model, turns that interpretation into broad geographic searches, and uses SerpApi’s Google Maps engine to return named destinations with ratings, reviews, photos and directions. The design keeps raw listening context on your computer instead of sending it to a commercial AI model, although Spotify authorization and the map-search request still leave the device. Feels is therefore best understood as a privacy-oriented prototype for breaking a music-driven scroll habit—not as a scientifically validated way to predict which trail you will enjoy.
What is Feels, and what does it actually recommend?
Feels is presented by developer Prathamesh Anvekar as an open-weight, privacy-first web application built around one idea: “Turn your music into a reason to get outside.” Instead of generating another playlist or answering with a chat message, it translates the character of your recent tracks into suggestions for physical outdoor locations.
The output is three destination cards. Each card is intended to represent a genuine place returned by Google Maps results, with a rating, review count, photographs, coordinates, a short explanation connecting the location to your soundtrack, and a one-click route into Google Maps. The service is not limited to a prewritten trail catalog; it creates generalized search intents from your listening and asks a map-search service to find places that fit.
Recommended Free Tools
That distinction matters. Feels does not claim to know your fitness level, weather tolerance, transport options or whether a path is open. It proposes places from a musical mood profile, then relies on map data for basic grounding. You still need to check access, conditions, distance and local rules before leaving.

How does Feels turn Spotify listening into a place to go?
The workflow has four visible stages: reading tracks, interpreting them locally, discovering places through SerpApi, and grounding the results into destination cards. The stages are deliberately bounded so a refresh produces a small set of choices rather than an endless recommendation feed.
1. Spotify supplies a small listening sample
Feels authenticates through Spotify OAuth 2.0 and requests the user-read-recently-played permission. The project description says it retrieves the ten most recently played tracks, at most once per calendar day. Spotify’s current developer documentation describes the recently-played endpoint, its cursor and played_at fields, and a request maximum of 50 items; Feels chooses the smaller ten-track sample.
Those timestamps let the app distinguish what you played recently rather than treating your entire library as a personality test. The design also limits how often listening history is fetched, reducing repeated authorization traffic and making the recommendation a daily prompt instead of a continuously updating feed.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →2. A local model interprets the soundtrack
The project runs Qwen 2.5 Coder 7B through Ollama on the local machine at port 11434. The model is prompted to return strict JSON describing acoustic energy, emotional descriptors and targeted spatial queries. The implementation uses JSON-format enforcement plus defensive extraction, because a language model can otherwise surround a useful answer with prose or produce malformed fields.
In practical terms, the model is not searching for a trail by itself. It summarizes qualities such as intensity, pace or emotional texture, then expresses those qualities as search-oriented concepts. A high-energy set might yield queries oriented toward active parks or viewpoints; a quiet, reflective set might produce searches for calmer green spaces. The exact wording and quality of those queries depend on the model output and the local geography.
3. SerpApi grounds abstract mood in named places
Generalized environmental queries are sent to SerpApi’s Google Maps engine. The returned records are intended to be physical locations rather than fictional suggestions, and can include names, coordinates, photos, ratings and review counts. Feels uses those results to create cards that explain why a place matches the inferred soundtrack and to provide a directions action.
This is the crucial handoff between interpretation and reality: the local model decides what kind of environment to look for, while the maps service supplies places that exist in a searchable geographic database. A broad query can still produce a poor fit, so map ratings are evidence of other visitors’ experience, not proof that a location suits your mood or is safe today.

4. The interface presents three choices
The interface exposes progress through four processing labels—track reading, local inference, SerpApi discovery and grounding—before revealing three destination cards. A strict cap of fifteen refreshes per day prevents the app from becoming an infinite “try another place” loop. A SQLite cache records visited spots and helps subsequent refreshes rotate toward destinations that have not already been shown.
Does Feels send your listening history to a cloud AI?
According to the project’s stated architecture, raw listening history is interpreted on your own computer by the Ollama-hosted model. The author’s privacy argument is that only generalized, non-identifying outdoor search terms need to reach the map-search service, avoiding the transmission of your track-by-track behavior to a commercial AI provider.
That is a design claim, not an independent privacy audit. Spotify still receives an OAuth authorization and provides the recently played data through its service. SerpApi still receives the generated search terms and must answer over the network. The available description does not establish whether every implementation detail—such as server logs, browser telemetry, error reporting or retained map requests—is configured identically in every deployment.
Local inference also changes the trust boundary rather than eliminating it. A computer running Ollama stores the model and may hold cached application data, so device access, disk encryption and account hygiene remain relevant. If you self-host Feels, inspect the code and network behavior of the exact version you run before treating the privacy design as a guarantee.
What information appears on a destination card?
Each card is described as combining recommendation context with ordinary map information:
- Place identity: a named outdoor location returned by the Google Maps engine.
- Music rationale: an explanation tying the destination’s environment to inferred acoustic energy or emotional descriptors.
- Social proof: the available star rating and review count.
- Visual context: photographs supplied by the map result.
- Location data: coordinates and a link or action for Google Maps directions.
The card is a starting point for deciding where to go, not a route-planning or risk-assessment system. Check opening hours, terrain, accessibility, weather, public-transit options and local advisories separately.
What do I need to use Feels?
The documented workflow does not require a special headphone, GPS unit, hiking shoe or paid guidebook. You need a Spotify account that can authorize recently played tracks, a computer capable of running Ollama and the Qwen 2.5 Coder 7B model if you are hosting the local stack yourself, and network access for Spotify and SerpApi requests.

Running a seven-billion-parameter model locally can be more demanding than using a cloud chat service. The project description does not publish a minimum RAM, GPU or operating-system specification, so hardware suitability cannot be reduced to a single guaranteed number. If the model loads slowly or fails to start, the likely remedies are allocating more memory, using an appropriate Ollama build for your platform, or choosing a smaller compatible model only if the application’s prompt and output checks support it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A typical user session
- Open Feels and select the Spotify sign-in action.
- Approve the
user-read-recently-playedpermission in Spotify’s OAuth flow. - Wait while the app reads the permitted recent-play sample.
- Let Ollama perform the local interpretation; keep the local service available at port
11434. - Review the three grounded destination cards returned from the map search.
- Open directions only after checking practical details such as access, weather and closing times.
The once-per-calendar-day listening fetch and fifteen-refresh daily limit mean that repeatedly reconnecting or refreshing will not produce unlimited new analyses.
How is Feels different from an ordinary playlist or local-discovery app?
Feels combines a mood interpretation step with place search. Conventional playlist tools usually optimize for another sequence of songs, while local-discovery apps generally begin with a category, map area or explicit activity. The following comparison captures the documented design rather than a measured performance test.
| Aspect | Feels | Typical alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Up to ten recently played Spotify tracks, fetched no more than once per day | Playlist, explicit search, saved places or broader account history |
| Interpretation | Qwen 2.5 Coder 7B running locally through Ollama | Rules, filters or a cloud recommendation model, depending on the product |
| Output | Three outdoor destinations with map details and directions | More music, a conversational answer or a general list of places |
| Grounding | SerpApi Google Maps results intended to correspond to named physical locations | App-owned databases, user submissions or ungrounded generated text |
| Interaction budget | Fifteen refreshes per day plus the daily listening-fetch limit | Often no documented daily cap |
| External dependencies | Spotify authorization and network map search remain necessary | Varies; cloud-first products may add an AI provider and analytics services |
The trade-off is clear: local interpretation can reduce exposure of raw listening context, but it adds model-running requirements and does not make the entire workflow offline.
What happens when the connection is weak or a result is wrong?
SQLite caching and local inference are described as allowing mood profiling and some trail guidance to continue when connectivity is weak. SerpApi discovery itself cannot function without a network connection, so cached or previously known information is the only realistic fallback for new places.

Reauthorize the account and confirm that the recently-played permission was accepted. Remember that the app may refuse another fetch until the next calendar day; that behavior is a documented limit, not necessarily a failed login.
Ollama inference fails
Confirm that Ollama is running locally and listening on port 11434, then verify that the Qwen 2.5 Coder 7B model is installed and has enough system resources. Malformed model output should be handled by the application’s defensive JSON extraction, but a missing service or exhausted memory cannot be fixed by retrying the same request indefinitely.

Search results are irrelevant
Mood-to-place translation is inherently approximate. Inspect the generated query and the returned map listing, then reject destinations that do not match your actual location, mobility needs or safety requirements. The cache can rotate away from a previously visited place, but it cannot guarantee novelty or quality.
The app reaches the refresh cap
Wait for the daily reset rather than attempting to bypass the limit. The cap is part of the anti-scroll interaction design and also constrains repeated external searches.
How reliable are Feels’ privacy and effectiveness claims?
The implementation details are reported in a first-person project account, not in an independent audit. No user study, adoption figure or measured change in time spent outdoors is published. The statement that Feels reduces screen time is therefore an intended outcome or hypothesis, not a demonstrated effect.
The project account reports that 21 tests passed in 2.75 seconds during an agent-session development run. That figure describes one reported development output; it is not an independently reproduced benchmark, a latency guarantee for your computer, or evidence that destination recommendations improve outdoor behavior.
Spotify’s endpoint behavior and a maximum request size of 50 items are documented by Spotify for Developers, while Feels’ ten-track and fifteen-refresh limits come from the project description. APIs, permissions and service policies can change, so a deployment should be checked against the current Spotify documentation and the exact application version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is Feels best suited to?
Feels makes the most sense for someone who wants a lightweight daily nudge and is comfortable running local software. It is especially interesting if you value keeping behavioral data away from a cloud language model and prefer a concrete destination over another digital recommendation.
It is a weaker fit if you need certified accessibility information, turn-by-turn trail navigation, live hazard data, a guaranteed nearby result, or recommendations based on detailed constraints such as elevation, dog access or transit time. Those needs require dedicated outdoor and mapping tools in addition to any mood-based prompt.
Best Value

What should you verify before following a recommendation?
- Confirm that the place is open and legally accessible on the intended date.
- Check weather, daylight, surface conditions and any official hazard notices.
- Compare the map location with your actual travel time and transport options.
- Read recent reviews for closures, construction or recurring safety issues.
- Make sure the terrain and distance match your fitness, mobility and equipment.
- Tell someone where you are going when visiting an unfamiliar or remote area.
These checks are necessary because Feels connects music to a place category, not because it has independently inspected the site.
Is Feels a finished product or an experiment?
The available material describes a working project with a defined pipeline, local model, map integration, cache and user-facing limits. It does not establish a commercial launch geography, an ongoing support commitment, a privacy certification or a validated behavioral benefit. Treat it as an engineering experiment that demonstrates a compelling interaction pattern: use a small, personal signal to create a bounded invitation to go somewhere real.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Feels choose a specific trail from one song?
It can produce a search intent influenced by the recent listening sample, but the documented flow analyzes up to ten tracks rather than one song in isolation. The final trail or park comes from map-search results, so the match remains probabilistic and depends on what is available near your location.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWill Feels work without an internet connection?
Local model inference and cached information may continue during weak connectivity, but a new SerpApi Google Maps discovery requires network access. Spotify authentication and the initial recently-played request also depend on external service availability.
Can I refresh Feels as many times as I want?
No. The project applies a fifteen-refresh daily cap, and it fetches recent Spotify listening no more than once per calendar day. SQLite caching can rotate destinations, but it does not remove those limits.
Does Feels know whether a destination is safe or accessible?
The described cards contain map-oriented details such as ratings, reviews, photos and coordinates, not a certified accessibility or risk assessment. You must verify current conditions, terrain, opening status and local advisories with authoritative sources before visiting.
