If your Razer Leviathan V2 X is selected in Fedora but remains quiet at 100 percent, the likely problem is not the USB-C cable or the soundbar’s advertised output. PipeWire can initialize the ALSA hardware mixer with a low or badly scaled baseline. First verify the Leviathan is the active output and identify its ALSA card. Then either run a delayed startup command that restores the first mixer control to 100 percent, or configure WirePlumber to use a software mixer. The first approach mirrors a 2026 user report; the second is more general but can produce a sudden loud signal. Keep the exact model, kernel, PipeWire, WirePlumber and alsa-card-profiles versions recorded, because a separate CachyOS report found a possible kernel-related cutoff on the same model.
Why is the Razer Leviathan V2 X quiet over USB-C on Fedora?
The reported Fedora failure is a mixer-initialization problem: PipeWire starts, the ALSA card appears, and the desktop volume reaches 100 percent, but the soundbar’s hardware control is left at a low or unusable value. Daniel, who documented the case in 2026, described it as “a timing conflict.” His workaround waits for PipeWire to settle, discovers the Leviathan card, and restores its first mixer control to 100 percent.
This is a practical user workaround, not a Fedora guarantee or an independent measurement. The Leviathan V2 X is a USB Type-C wired soundbar. Its manual says to secure the USB-C cable at both ends, select the Razer Leviathan V2 X as the default playback device, and raise volume on both the soundbar and the connected computer. The reproduced manual lists up to 90 dB maximum output, but that is a product specification rather than a laboratory result for your Fedora setup.
How do I verify Fedora is using the correct output and ALSA card?
Do this before changing PipeWire or WirePlumber. A fix applied to the wrong card can change another audio device while leaving the Leviathan quiet.

- Open Settings > Sound in GNOME and choose Razer Leviathan V2 X under Output Device. Play a test sound and raise both the GNOME output slider and the soundbar’s physical volume.
- List ALSA cards:
cat /proc/asound/cards
Find the line containing Leviathan and note its numeric index, such as 2. Card numbers can change when USB devices are plugged in or removed, so do not hard-code an index permanently without checking.
- Open the ALSA mixer for that card:
alsamixer
Press F6, select the Leviathan card, and inspect every visible playback control. Fedora troubleshooting guidance recommends this check when desktop volume is high but output is still low. A muted channel is shown as MM; press M to unmute it. Use the arrow keys to raise a control and watch whether the sound changes.
- From a terminal, display the card’s mixer controls:
amixer -c N scontrols
Replace N with the Leviathan card number. The output identifies the control names that a script can set. If no controls are listed, stop here and collect diagnostics instead of forcing a guessed control.
How can I restore the Leviathan hardware volume after PipeWire starts?
A delayed script is the closest match to the documented Fedora case. It waits three seconds, finds the card whose ALSA description contains Leviathan, obtains the first mixer control reported by amixer, and sets that control to 100 percent.
Create and test the script
- Create a private bin directory and open a script:
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
nano ~/.local/bin/leviathan-volume.sh

- Paste this script:
#!/usr/bin/env bash
sleep 3
card=$(awk '/Leviathan/ {gsub(/:/, "", $1); print $1; exit}' /proc/asound/cards)
[ -n "$card" ] || exit 1
control=$(amixer -c $card scontrols | awk -F"'" 'NR == 1 {print $2; exit}')
[ -n "$control" ] || exit 1
amixer -c $card sset "$control" 100%
The three-second delay comes from Daniel’s case report; it is not a measured requirement. If your system initializes more slowly, increase it cautiously. The script assumes the first control returned by scontrols is the relevant volume control, so inspect the output manually before relying on it.
- Save the file, make it executable, and run it manually:
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/leviathan-volume.sh
~/.local/bin/leviathan-volume.sh
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTurn your source volume down before testing. Setting a hardware control to 100 percent can create a sudden loud jump. If the sound becomes normal, lower the GNOME volume to a comfortable level and check alsamixer to confirm which control changed.
Run it automatically after login
- Create the user autostart directory:
mkdir -p ~/.config/autostart
- Create
~/.config/autostart/leviathan-volume.desktopwith this content:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Leviathan volume restore
Exec=/home/YOUR_USER/.local/bin/leviathan-volume.sh
Terminal=false
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true
Replace YOUR_USER with your actual login name. Using the absolute path avoids failures caused by a different working directory at login. Log out and back in, then check the mixer and playback level. If the script works manually but not at login, inspect the path and executable permission first; only then experiment with a longer sleep.
How do I make WirePlumber use a software mixer instead?
A software mixer bypasses a faulty or badly scaled hardware dB curve. ArchWiki documents api.alsa.soft-mixer = true for USB devices whose physical mixer creates low-volume thresholds or unusable attenuation. A Leviathan-specific follow-up applies the same idea and then sets the physical PCM control to 100 percent.

Find the exact card name
Use one of these commands:
wpctl status
pactl list cards
Look for the full identifier, which commonly begins with alsa_card.usb-Razer_Razer_Leviathan_V2_X. Do not copy that pattern blindly if your identifier contains a revision or different USB suffix. WirePlumber matching is name-sensitive.

- Create the configuration directory:
mkdir -p ~/.config/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d
- Create a file such as
51-leviathan-soft-mixer.conf:
monitor.alsa.rules = [
{
matches = [
{
device.name = ~alsa_card.usb-Razer_Razer_Leviathan_V2_X.*
}
]
actions = {
update-props = {
"api.alsa.soft-mixer" = true
}
}
}
]
The rule is deliberately scoped to the Leviathan card. If your wpctl status or pactl list cards output differs, change the match so it corresponds to the actual card name. A broad rule can alter every USB audio device.
- Restart the user audio session:
systemctl --user restart wireplumber
Play audio at a low source level first. Software-mixer changes can make the output suddenly much louder because the previous hardware attenuation is no longer applied. If the level is still wrong, open alsamixer and set the physical PCM control to 100 percent, then use the desktop or application volume for normal adjustments.
Undo the software-mixer rule
Delete the rule file or move it out of ~/.config/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/, then restart WirePlumber again. This change is reversible and does not require changing the kernel or reinstalling PipeWire.
Which fix should I choose: hardware restoration or software mixing?
Choose hardware restoration when the Leviathan behaves normally after its control is explicitly set to 100 percent. Choose software mixing when the hardware dB curve itself creates a dead range, abrupt threshold, or unusable attenuation.

| Criterion | Delayed hardware-volume script | WirePlumber software mixer |
|---|---|---|
| Persistence | Requires a user autostart entry and a delay after login. | Loads whenever the matching card is created; no login script is needed. |
| Loud-output risk | High when the script forces 100 percent during startup. | Also high because hardware attenuation may be bypassed; test at low source volume. |
| Model dependence | Searches for a description containing Leviathan but assumes the first mixer control is correct. | Must match the exact WirePlumber card name and can affect the wrong device if the pattern is too broad. |
| Reversibility | Remove the autostart file and stop running the script. | Delete the rule and restart WirePlumber. |
| Kernel or package updates | May continue to work unless control names or startup timing change. | May expose or hide a regression in ALSA, PipeWire, WirePlumber or card profiles. |
What should I check if the volume resets after reboot?
A reset usually means another layer is writing the ALSA state after your command runs, or the card is appearing later than expected.
- Run
amixer -c Nimmediately after login and again after starting playback. Compare the mixer value and mute state. - Confirm the autostart file uses the real home-directory path and that the script is executable.
- If the script runs too early, increase the sleep modestly and test again. The three-second value is only the delay used in one report.
- Restart the audio session to test whether the problem is transient:
systemctl --user restart wireplumber pipewire pipewire-pulse. Recheck the selected output afterward. - Do not change the script, WirePlumber rule, kernel and saved ALSA state simultaneously. Change one layer, test, and record the result.
Fedora and Arch troubleshooting guidance both emphasize checking alsamixer and amixer before assuming the desktop slider reflects the physical mixer.
Could a Fedora kernel or package update be causing the cutoff?
Possibly, but the available evidence is from another distribution and must not be treated as proof of a Fedora bug. A 2026 CachyOS forum report describes a Razer Leviathan V2 X that cuts out below approximately 34 percent after a 7.1.x kernel update and related package changes. Users discussed rollback and software-mixer workarounds.
That report establishes a possible USB-audio regression pattern, not a universal threshold. Fedora users should record the exact Leviathan model and current versions before downgrading anything. The V2 X is not automatically interchangeable with another Leviathan model, and a kernel issue affecting CachyOS may not exist in Fedora’s kernel build.
Which diagnostics should I collect before filing a bug?
Capture the state while the volume is quiet and again after applying a workaround:

Include whether the soundbar is connected directly by USB-C, whether another USB audio device was present, and whether the failure survives a fresh login. These details distinguish a card-profile problem from a startup race or a kernel regression.
What should I verify on the soundbar itself?
Use the Leviathan V2 X manual’s basic checks before changing Linux configuration. Reseat the USB-C cable at both ends, select the Leviathan as the default playback device, and raise the soundbar’s own volume as well as the computer volume. If the device is absent from /proc/asound/cards, PipeWire cannot fix a connection or enumeration failure; test another USB-C port or cable and inspect whether the card appears at all.
Keep the manual’s 90 dB figure in context: it is a listed maximum-output specification for the product, not a guarantee that every Fedora application or mixer path will reach that level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I copy the Leviathan WirePlumber rule for another USB soundbar?
Only the software-mixer idea is transferable. Replace the card-match pattern with the exact identifier shown by wpctl status or pactl list cards; a copied Leviathan name will simply miss your device or match the wrong one.
How do I remove the login workaround without changing PipeWire?
Delete ~/.config/autostart/leviathan-volume.desktop and leave the script in place, or remove both files if you no longer need manual testing. Log out and back in; no system package or kernel change is required.
Why does 100 percent in GNOME not always mean maximum loudness?
GNOME controls a PipeWire stream or sink, while the ALSA card may have a separate hardware control and dB scale. If that physical control is muted, reset or poorly calibrated, the desktop percentage can reach 100 while the soundbar remains quiet.
Does this guide cover Bluetooth playback from the Leviathan?
No. These steps target the USB-C ALSA card exposed by the Leviathan V2 X. A Bluetooth profile uses a different transport and card path, so its profile selection and mixer behavior must be diagnosed separately.
