Start with Smart Style, finish the in-game Beginner and Basic tutorials, and then use Training to learn defense before long combos. On Nintendo Switch 2, the most important early goals are confirming your local button labels, blocking high and low attacks, landing one normal-to-special confirm, using a REV Art or Brake safely, activating REV Blow while S.P.G. is live, and recovering with a wakeup roll. The public reference pages show PlayStation and Xbox layouts rather than a dedicated Switch 2 face-button chart, so action names and directional notation are safer than guessing which Nintendo face button performs each action.
What is available on Nintendo Switch 2?
SNK lists the Switch 2 version as digitally available from October 22, 2026. It supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes, with one or two local players and two to 12 network players. Cross-platform play and rollback netcode are also listed, so the console version is designed for both local sessions and online matches.
The digital Standard Edition is $19.99, while the digital Starter Edition is $29.99, according to SNK’s 2026 product information. SNK has announced a physical Starter Edition for January 21, 2027. The Starter package includes the base game plus a substantial bundle of additional characters and stages; its exact contents can change, so check the edition description at purchase time.

Should I use Smart Style or Arcade Style?
Choose Smart Style if you are new to Fatal Fury or fighting games. Choose Arcade Style when you already understand motion inputs or want the full traditional control model. Neither is a “better” mode: Smart Style reduces execution demands, while Arcade Style gives you more direct control over the conventional input system.

Smart Style supplies a one-button Smart Combo and simplified special inputs, but do not assume it exposes every Arcade Style option. Open your character’s command list in each style and compare the listed actions. A practical progression is to learn the system in Smart Style, then move to Arcade Style when you specifically want traditional motion-input depth.
How do I confirm the Switch 2 button labels?
The official online reference pages reviewed for the game document PlayStation and Xbox tables, not a dedicated Switch 2 face-button diagram. Because buttons can be remapped, an A/B/X/Y transcription copied from another platform can be wrong for your setup.
- From the game’s menus, open Button Config.
- Use Button Preview to display the action assigned to each local button.
- Open the character’s Command List and check every move you plan to practice.
- Adjust command icons and shortcuts if the default display is difficult to read.
- Test the assignment once in Training before entering an online match.
This guide therefore names actions—such as special, REV Blow, Dodge Attack and throw—and uses directions rather than claiming unverified Nintendo face-button positions.

Learn these actions in the order you need them in a real exchange: defend, escape pressure, confirm a hit, then spend resources.
Normal attacks
Arcade Style separates light and heavy attacks and uses directional variants for standing, crouching and jumping attacks. Smart Style uses light attacks plus directional variations for heavier and crouching attacks. Start with one standing normal and one crouching normal that you can identify without looking at the controller.
Special moves
Arcade Style uses each character’s motion inputs. Smart Style uses the dedicated special input by itself or with a direction. Learn one special that is safe enough to use after a normal and one that helps you approach or control space.

Blocking
Hold away from the opponent to block. Standing and crouching guards defend against different attack heights, so watch whether the incoming move is overhead or low rather than holding one guard position forever.
Throw and throw tech
Throws are unblockable, so blocking alone does not solve close-range pressure. Practice your throw-tech timing separately; that timing does not work against command throws, which require a different defensive read.
Dodge Attack
Dodge Attack evades incoming offense and can punish normal or special attacks. It also counters REV Blow and can open opponents who remain crouched. Use it as a deliberate response to a recorded attack, not as a button to mash whenever you feel pressured.
Feint and Brake
A Feint begins the appearance of a special without completing it, letting you bait a block or an attempted REV Blow. Brake stops some special moves early, allowing you to change block pressure or create a less predictable sequence. Add one Feint or Brake only after you can perform the underlying special consistently.
Supers and Smart Combo
Ignition Gear costs one Power Gauge bar. Redline Gear is the stronger two-bar version; in Smart Style, the simplified command selects the stronger version when two full bars are available. Smart Combo is an auto-combo triggered by repeated input in Smart Style, useful for learning timing but not a substitute for understanding your normal-to-special confirm.
How do I use REV Blow and REV Arts?
REV Blow is available only while your S.P.G. zone is active. It can be performed on the ground or in midair and can follow REV Arts or a Combination Attack. REV Art is performed by adding two attack buttons to a special-move motion; it produces a stronger special and raises the REV Meter.

- In Training, lower your character’s health until that zone is active.
- Perform the character’s special, then repeat it with the two-attack REV Art input.
- Confirm that REV Blow is available only during the active S.P.G. state.
- Practice one sequence that ends in REV Art and a second that routes from REV Art into REV Blow.
REV Accel lets you chain REV Arts into additional REV Arts or a REV Blow by spending REV Meter. Because every extra REV action consumes the same resource that can overheat, begin with a single REV Art route instead of trying to memorize a maximum-damage sequence.
What does the REV Meter do, and how do I stop overheating?
The REV Meter rises when you use REV actions and when you block normally. At maximum, your character overheats: REV actions are disabled, and blocking drains the Guard Gauge. When the Guard Gauge reaches zero, guard crush leaves you vulnerable.
Treat REV Meter as a budget, not a permanent power-up. Stop adding REV actions when the meter is near full, then cool it by landing attacks or using defensive timing rather than continuing to block passively. Just Defense also cools the meter, making precise defense a resource-management tool as well as a way to survive pressure.

- Just Defense: block at the correct moment to recover a small amount of health, cool REV Meter and gain a guard-cancel opportunity.
- Hyper Defense: after blocking the first hit of a multihit attack, press forward at the correct timing for benefits similar to Just Defense.
Practice ordinary block, REV Guard and Just Defense as separate answers. Trying to mash a REV action through every gap is the fastest way to reach overheating without learning why the exchange was lost.
Where should I put my S.P.G.?
Before each match, assign S.P.G. to the Accel, Flux or Final Ratio zone. S.P.G. activates when your remaining health reaches the selected zone, increases attack strength and enables tools including REV Blow and Hidden Gear. The location is a strategic choice, not a cosmetic setting.
Accel Ratio
This places the activation window earlier in the health bar. It gives you access to S.P.G.-dependent offense before you are close to defeat, which can suit a player who wants more opportunities to practice REV Blow.

The middle position creates a compromise between early access and late-round danger. It is a useful learning choice when you are still discovering how often you can reach the activation zone.

This holds S.P.G. for the most critical health range. It can produce a late comeback window, but you may be knocked out before the tools become available. Test each placement in Training and choose based on whether you need earlier practice opportunities or a late-round power spike.
Hidden Gear requires active S.P.G. and two full Power Gauge bars. A successful Hidden Gear hit resets the REV Meter to 0%, so it is a high-resource option rather than a routine opener.
How should I manage the Power Gauge?
The Power Gauge fills through actions such as attacking and blocking and stores up to two bars. It fuels Ignition Gear, Redline Gear and other supers. For a first practice cycle, spend one bar on a reliable super before learning two-bar optimization.
Record a simple confirm that ends in Ignition Gear. When that route is dependable, practice saving two bars for Redline Gear and compare the risk of holding resources with the benefit of immediate damage. Do not confuse Power Gauge with REV Meter: Power Gauge enables supers, while REV Meter tracks REV usage and can overheat.

What should I practice first in Training?
Training mode includes recordings, dummy behavior, reversal actions, adjustable guard settings and adjustable gauges. Use those controls to isolate one decision at a time instead of replaying full matches without feedback.

- Verify your layout. Open Button Preview, Button Config and the command list; write down the local inputs for block, throw, throw tech, special, REV Art, REV Blow, Dodge Attack, Brake and wakeup roll.
- Build defensive habits. Practice standing block, crouch block, throw and throw tech before attempting a long combo.
- Record a dummy. Record one normal attack and one special move, then rehearse blocking and Dodge Attack against each recording.
- Learn one confirm. In Smart Style, connect a short normal-to-special route. In Arcade Style, use the same idea with a basic motion-input confirm.
- Add one resource decision. Put Brake or REV Art into that route and stop when the REV Meter becomes unsafe.
- Test S.P.G. timing. Set your chosen ratio, reduce health to activate it and perform REV Blow only during the active window.
- Finish with wakeup roll and Just Defense. Add these after your offensive sequence is reliable, then test them against a recorded knockdown or multihit attack.
How do I survive knockdowns and pressure?
After a knockdown, time a direction-plus-attack input to perform a wakeup roll. Some moves prevent a wakeup roll, so a failed roll does not always mean your timing was wrong; against those attacks, prepare to block or use another defensive option.
Against pressure, first identify whether the opponent is using a normal, special, throw or REV Blow. Block the appropriate height, use REV Guard when you need space and chip protection, and reserve Dodge Attack for a move you have identified. Feint can make an opponent hesitate before committing to a REV Blow, while Brake can alter the rhythm of your own offense.
What mistakes slow down new players?
- Guessing Switch 2 buttons from another platform: confirm every assignment in Button Preview.
- Choosing Arcade Style before learning the system: start with Smart Style if motion execution is distracting you from defense.
- Spending REV Meter automatically: leave enough room to avoid overheating and guard-crush danger.
- Learning only combos: blocking, throw defense, Dodge Attack, wakeup roll and Just Defense decide whether you get another turn.
- Using REV Blow outside S.P.G.: it is gated by the active S.P.G. state.
- Repeating full matches without recordings: recreate the exact normal, special or knockdown that caused trouble in Training.
Is the Switch 2 version digital or physical?
Both formats are planned. The Standard and Starter Editions launched digitally on October 22, 2026, and SNK announced a physical Starter Edition for January 21, 2027. SNK says preorders will open through participating retailers, but current retailer stock and a live listing are not established here, so verify availability and edition contents at the time you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remap the controls for a one-handed or accessibility setup?
Yes. Button Config lets you change assignments, and the game also provides command-icon and shortcut settings. After remapping, use Button Preview and a short Training session to verify that every direction-plus-button input still matches the command list.
Why did my wakeup roll fail even though I entered the direction and attack?
Some attacks prevent a wakeup roll, so the move itself may have removed that option. Record the knockdown in Training and test whether blocking, Just Defense or another reversal is the intended answer.
Is Smart Style useful online, or is Arcade Style required?
Smart Style is a full control option, not a trial mode, and it is suitable for online play if its simplified inputs fit your character. Arcade Style becomes worthwhile when you want traditional motion-input execution or need options that are listed only in that style’s command list.
What happens when Hidden Gear connects?
Hidden Gear requires active S.P.G. and two full Power Gauge bars. A successful hit resets your REV Meter to 0%, so the move can change your resource state as well as deal damage.
