Console players also need the applicable Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus membership for online play. Bethesda confirms cross-play between Steam and Microsoft PC versions, but its cited support pages do not establish whether Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players can all join one another.
Do friends need Fallout 1st to join a Private Adventure?
No. The player hosting a Private Adventure needs Fallout 1st; invited friends do not. Bethesda says an owner can invite up to seven friends, for eight players total, and guests can enter through an invitation or access via the owner’s friends list. See Bethesda’s Fallout 1st benefits and Private Adventure support page.

What happens if the owner leaves?
The world can remain active if another logged-in player with Fallout 1st stays in it. If no Fallout 1st member remains online, players receive a warning and the world shuts down after its timer. The owner can set access to “Team Only” or “All Friends.”
What Fallout 1st adds
Beyond Private Adventure hosting, Bethesda lists Custom Worlds, a Scrapbox with unlimited crafting-component storage, a Survival Tent, an Ammo Box (excluding Fusion Cores and Plasma Cores), 1,650 Atoms per month, a Fallout 1st Season Pass, cosmetics, and other benefits. Some features, including Private Adventure access and the Survival Tent, last only while the membership is active. Bethesda’s support page does not establish a current price, which can vary by platform or region.
#1 Best Overall
- New Main Quest: Uncover the secrets of West Virginia by playing through an all-new main quest, starting from the moment you leave Vault 76.
- Human NPCs: Befriend or betray new neighbors who have come to rebuild, and experience Appalachia through the eyes of its residents.
- New Creatures and Gear: Take down newly mutated creatures finding their way to the region and earn the highest tier of weapons and armor.
- Choices and Reputation: Alter the fates of those you meet with dialogue trees. Decisions affect your standing with each faction through an all-new reputation system.
When membership expires, you can still use Atoms you received and resources already stored in your Scrapbox, but you cannot deposit new crafting components. Access to Private Worlds, the Survival Tent, and other membership-duration features ends. Cosmetics and outfits claimed from the Atomic Shop while subscribed remain yours. Details are in Bethesda’s Fallout 1st renewal and cancellation information.
Can Xbox and PlayStation players play Fallout 76 together?
Bethesda’s cited cross-play information does not provide a complete platform-pairing chart. It confirms PC-to-PC play across Steam and Microsoft PC versions, but does not establish cross-play between Xbox and PlayStation, or between consoles and PC. Do not assume players on those different platform families can join one another based on that confirmation alone.

- Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person. Work together, or not, to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe
- Reclamation Day, 2102. Twenty-five years after the bombs fall, you and your fellow Vault Dwellers—chosen from the nation’s best and brightest – emerge into post-nuclear America. Play solo or join together as you explore, quest, build, and triumph against the wasteland’s greatest threats
Bethesda lists Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and qualifying PCs as supported platforms. That list does not itself confirm cross-play between console generations, either. See Bethesda’s cross-play information and supported-platform information.
Can Steam players play with Microsoft PC players?
Yes. Bethesda explicitly says PC players can play together across Steam and Microsoft PC versions in all game modes.

How do you invite or join a friend?
Use Fallout 76’s Social Menu to find and group with friends. Bethesda’s social features guide also describes adding friends through the Paper Map; console players can add friends through their console interface.
- Open the Social Menu and select the friend’s name.
- Choose “Invite To Team” to group up.
- If the friend is online and already in a session, select “Join Session.”
Bethesda says players can join friends who are online in other countries. The friend still needs to be on a platform pairing that supports playing together.

- Purchase 1000 (+100 Bonus!) Atoms, an in-game currency you can use in Fallout 76 to buy a variety of customization items for your character.
- Visit the in-game Atomic Shop to see what’s available.
Do you need Game Pass or PlayStation Plus to play online?
According to Bethesda’s platform requirements, console play requires an internet connection and the applicable Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus membership. This is separate from Fallout 1st: the platform membership covers online console play, while Fallout 1st provides game-specific benefits such as Private Adventure hosting. The cited requirement does not say that PC players need an Xbox or PlayStation subscription.
