Fairphone’s Fairphone (Gen. 6), often called the Fairphone 6, is built around replaceable modules and manufacturer-published repair guides. For common jobs such as replacing the battery or display, Fairphone provides instructions and estimates the work at about 5–10 minutes and 10–15 minutes, respectively. You’ll need the compatible spare part and a Torx T5 screwdriver to access the parts; you can also choose Fairphone’s service-center route instead of repairing the phone yourself.
What “modular” means on the Fairphone (Gen. 6)
Fairphone describes the phone as modular: certain components can be replaced rather than requiring replacement of the whole device. Its repair resources include instructions for jobs such as battery and display replacement, alongside spare parts for the model. This is the manufacturer’s design and support claim; the repair times and repairability score below are not independent hands-on test results.
Fairphone says the phone received a 10 out of 10 repairability score from iFixit in 2025, as reported in its 2025 impact report. The score is useful context, but it does not tell you whether a particular spare part is currently in stock or what it costs in your country.
What you need for a DIY repair
Before opening the phone, identify the fault and confirm the replacement part is intended for the Fairphone (Gen. 6). Fairphone’s general guidance calls for the appropriate spare part, the matching repair guide, and a Phillips 00 or Torx T5 screwdriver. Its Gen. 6 spare-part guidance specifically identifies Torx T5 for accessing the parts.

- Compatible spare part: Check that the part listing matches the Fairphone (Gen. 6); availability and compatibility can vary by market.
- Correct repair guide: Follow the guide for the specific component rather than relying on generic phone-repair steps.
- Tool: Have a Torx T5 screwdriver available for access. Fairphone’s broader guidance also mentions Phillips 00, but do not assume both are needed for every repair.
Battery and display replacement: Fairphone’s time estimates
Fairphone publishes approximate times for two common repairs. These are the company’s estimates, not independently measured timings; your actual time can vary with experience and the device’s condition.
| Repair | Fairphone’s estimated time | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Battery replacement | About 5–10 minutes | Use the Gen. 6 battery guide and verify the replacement battery is for this model. |
| Display replacement | About 10–15 minutes | Use the Gen. 6 display guide and verify the replacement display is for this model. |
Fairphone says careful DIY repairs that follow its instructions should not cause damage or void the warranty. That is the manufacturer’s guidance, not a guarantee that every repair or device condition is covered. Check warranty coverage before starting.

DIY or service center: how to choose
Fairphone’s repair flow starts with diagnosis, then offers a DIY repair or a service-center option. If the fault is unclear, the part you need is uncertain, or you would rather not open the phone, follow the diagnosis flow and consider service. Some repairs may be covered by warranty, so check coverage before buying a part or paying for a repair.
- Describe the issue in Fairphone Support and use its repair flow to diagnose it.
- Check warranty coverage for the issue and device before proceeding.
- If choosing DIY, use the model-specific guide and compatible part, and follow the instructions carefully.
- If choosing professional help, select the service-center route offered in the repair flow and confirm local availability.
Android version: launched on Android 15, later updated
Fairphone Support says the Fairphone (Gen. 6) launched with Android 15 in 2025. Android 16 became available on 16 March 2026. That distinction matters if you are reading older launch coverage: Android 16 was not the launch version. The cited support information does not establish an exact future update end date, so check Fairphone’s current support policy for any guaranteed software-support horizon.

What to check before buying or ordering parts

- Read the relevant repair guide before deciding whether the job and required tools are right for you.
- Review warranty terms and diagnose the issue before paying for a part or repair service.
