Choose the recovery route that matches what’s happening: reset your password if you can receive a code at your linked email or phone, use Meta’s hacked-account page if you suspect someone took over your account, and follow Meta’s separate instructions if you’ve lost access to those contact details. A security-check hold is a different issue and may require waiting before you can log in.
Choose the recovery route that fits your situation

Reset your password if you can receive a code
- Open Facebook’s login screen and select the option to find or reset your account.
- Identify your account using the information Facebook requests, then choose the linked email address or phone number where you can receive a message.
- Enter the code or follow the reset link Facebook sends, then set a new password and try logging in.
If the message doesn’t arrive, check your email’s spam or junk folder and confirm your phone has signal or an internet connection. Wait a few minutes before requesting another code. Use the latest code or link you receive.
If you suspect your account was hacked
Use Meta’s official recovery page at facebook.com/hacked rather than treating a possible takeover as an ordinary forgotten-password problem. Meta recommends trying the process on a device you’ve used to log in to Facebook before. Follow the prompts shown for your account.
If you no longer have the linked email or phone
This is a separate recovery case from a routine password reset. Start with Meta’s official account-recovery instructions and follow the alternatives, if any, offered in your account’s flow. Don’t assume a particular identity check or alternate method will be available; the options depend on what Meta presents for your account.

If Facebook places a security-check hold on login
If you’ve completed a security check and Facebook tells you to wait, follow the notice rather than repeatedly starting a different recovery path. Meta’s Help Center says certain security checks require a 24-hour wait before login is allowed. That wait applies to the check described by Meta, not to every password reset or recovery attempt.

Once you regain access, review Meta’s Account Security guidance and consider enabling login alerts and two-factor authentication. A compatible security key is another optional way to strengthen login security if it is supported by your devices and Facebook’s current setup flow. These measures help protect an account going forward; they do not recover one you can’t access.
