You do not have to delete or replace an established Enshrouded world to play the 1.0 adventure content. Keen Games says Early Access saves remain usable after release and are converted to the new save format. Continue your existing world if you want to keep its bases, character progress and story state while exploring the expanded map. Create a separate world if you want the redesigned opening, tutorials, early resources and revised experience-point pacing from the beginning.
The lowest-risk approach is to leave the established world untouched, confirm whether it appears under Local Save or Steam Cloud, and create a second personal world for a fresh run. Adventure Sharing is separate: it is for uploading, browsing, subscribing to, downloading and visiting community worlds, not a replacement for your personal save.

Do I have to start over in Enshrouded 1.0?
No. Your Early Access world can be used after the 1.0 release. Keen Games’ official launch FAQ, published October 13, 2026, states: “You can absolutely use Early Access saves once the game releases in 1.0.” The game converts older saves to a newer, more efficient format when they are detected.
Keen Games also says it strongly encourages a restart because the world and the first few hours have been substantially improved. “Strongly encourage” is a recommendation, not a reset requirement. Your choice depends on whether preserving an established project or seeing the revised opening in its intended order matters more.

Should I continue my old world or make a new one?
Both routes can reach the expanded 1.0 world. Continuing preserves your work and lets a developed character travel toward new regions immediately; a new world delivers the redesigned early game from its first tutorial. Use the following decision table before loading a save.

Continue when your world is a long-term project
Keep the existing world if you have major bases, carefully shaped terrain, large storage systems or builds that would take many hours to recreate. A developed character can move toward the newly accessible areas without repeating the early crafting and settlement sequence. This is also the practical choice when you are returning mainly to inspect new locations and quests.

Start separately when the opening is the point
Create another world if you want the revised Cindervault introduction, updated tutorials, more readily available early crafting and settlement resources, and the rebalanced experience required for the first few levels to shape your entire run. A separate save is especially useful when a new group is learning the game together and everyone should follow the same progression.
How do I keep my old world and start a fresh one safely?
You can keep both experiences without replacing the established save. The sequence below avoids the most common mistake: creating or modifying a world before checking where the original save is listed.
- Leave the established world in place. Do not delete it, rename files manually or overwrite it with a new world. Treat the existing save as the source of truth for your builds and character progress.
- Open the world-selection screen and check both storage tabs. The 1.0 changelog distinguishes local save data from the Steam Cloud folder in character and world selection. If the expected world is missing from one tab, check the other before creating anything. A save that is not visible in the first list is not necessarily gone.
- Load the existing world once if you want to continue it. Saves created with version 0.8 or earlier are migrated automatically when the new version detects them. The changelog says the existing data is backed up during this migration. Allow the process to finish before closing the game or moving files.
- Check the returning character’s new skill state. On the first load after the relevant update, Update 8 resets the skill tree and refunds the points you had spent. Open the skill screen and assign the points again before entering a dangerous area.
- Inspect converted equipment. Existing armor, shields, wards, rings, pickaxes and wood-cutting axes are converted into upgradable versions. Check each favorite loadout, compare the new upgrade options and equip the items you actually intend to use; do not assume an old arrangement is still optimal.
- Create a second personal world from the normal new-world option. Give it a distinct name so it is obvious which save is the established campaign and which is the fresh run. This world lets you experience the redesigned beginning while the original remains available from the selection screen.
- Back up before manual file operations. Keen Games’ public material does not provide one universal button-by-button backup method for every PC setup, Steam Cloud configuration or dedicated-server host. Use the backup procedure supplied for your platform or host before replacing files, moving a server or changing cloud synchronization.
What changes when an existing character loads?
The first load is not simply a visual update. Returning characters should expect a one-time skill-tree reset and equipment conversion, so plan a short inspection session before committing to a major expedition.

Skill points are refunded once
Update 8 resets the skill tree for an existing character and returns the points that had been spent. Rebuild the tree around your current play style, then verify that the abilities you rely on for traversal, combat or gathering are active. The refund is a migration change for the first load, not a reason to discard the character.
Older gear becomes upgradeable gear
Favorite armor, shields, wards, rings, pickaxes and wood-cutting axes are converted into versions that can be upgraded. Check their new progression before salvaging or replacing them. Keep especially valuable pieces until you understand their upgrade path and have rebuilt your skill allocation.
Migration applies to older save formats
The 1.0 changelog specifically describes automatic migration for saves made with version 0.8 or earlier and says the existing data is backed up during that process. If your world was created later, the game may handle it differently; follow the prompts shown by the current build rather than assuming every save uses the same migration path.
What new content appears in an existing world?
Continuing an established world does not lock you out of the 1.0 additions. The official 1.0 changelog says the full world is accessible, including a new northern biome, expanded borders and newly opened routes.
- Cinder’s Cradle: a new biome in the northern part of the map.
- Expanded edge areas: new spaces bordering previous biomes, with quests and points of interest near the world’s edges.
- New Shroud Roots: 12 in Cinder’s Cradle and six more in the expanded edge areas, for 18 additions identified by Keen Games.
- Opened Hollow Halls gates: access is available in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin.
- More building room: additional areas that were previously restricted are available for player-built bases.
A continuing character may reach these places sooner because existing gear, skills and traversal progress reduce the amount of early preparation. A fresh character will encounter the same destinations through the revised progression, with the new tutorials and early-game pacing influencing when each route opens.

What is different about the redesigned opening?
The restart recommendation is about the sequence of the first hours, not about a missing endgame zone. Update 8 reworked the area around the Cindervault, adjusted the tutorials, made resources for early crafting and settlement building more available, and rebalanced the experience required for the first few levels.
Those changes matter most when they are experienced in order. Loading a developed character can show you the new world but cannot recreate the decisions, resource scarcity and tutorial rhythm of a first run. If you are curious about the new-player experience, use a separate world rather than trying to reset the established one.
How does Adventure Sharing fit into the choice?
Adventure Sharing is a separate area on the main menu, not a mandatory replacement for a personal campaign. It is designed for publishing and discovering worlds made by players.

- Upload a local version of Embervale with its constructions and adventures.
- Give a shared world a name, tags, description and preview screenshots.
- Browse, search and filter community creations.
- Upvote or subscribe to creations you want to follow.
- Download a shared world or visit it directly.
- Set a Flame Altar as the starting point for visitors.
Use Adventure Sharing when you want to inspect a builder’s world, publish a showcase or experiment with someone else’s layout. Keep your established campaign and your fresh personal run in the ordinary world list so the roles of each save remain clear. Keen Games describes the first version as the beginning of a larger system, with future expansion planned for interactive logic, puzzles, enemy spawning and traps.

An established group usually benefits from continuing its shared world, while a newly formed group often benefits from a separate world. The deciding factor is whether the group values existing construction and progression or a synchronized first run through the revised opening.

For an established group
Load the existing world, verify the correct storage tab for the host’s save and let returning characters complete their migration checks. Everyone should rebuild refunded skill points and inspect converted equipment before the group chooses a destination. This avoids abandoning a shared settlement merely to reach the new biome.
For a new group
Create a separate world owned by the player who will reliably host it, then agree on the progression rules before anyone builds. A clean world lets all players see the updated Cindervault area, tutorials, resource availability and early XP pacing together. Keep the old world available for players who want to revisit its builds.
For a dedicated server
Do not assume a local-save instruction applies to a dedicated host. Identify where that host stores world and character data, follow its documented backup procedure and make a copy before changing files or migrating the server. The official materials do not publish one universal process for every host.

Check storage location before treating the save as lost. The 1.0 selection screen separates local data from the Steam Cloud folder, so switch tabs and look for the world under both locations.
- Confirm that you are viewing the correct character and world-selection tab.
- Check whether the save belongs to local storage or Steam Cloud.
- Do not create a replacement world with the same name until you have checked both locations.
- If a migration prompt appears, let it complete and keep the automatically created backup.
- For a dedicated server or manually moved files, consult the host’s backup and restore instructions rather than applying a local-PC procedure.
If the save still does not appear after these checks, stop making changes that could overwrite files and use the platform or host’s support process. The official launch information confirms compatibility and migration behavior, but it does not define a single recovery workflow for every installation.

- Check both Local Save and Steam Cloud tabs.
- Keep the established world instead of replacing it.
- Allow automatic migration to finish for saves created with version 0.8 or earlier.

How we interpret Keen Games’ restart recommendation
Keen Games’ wording supports a two-save strategy: the old world remains valid, while a new world is the best way to see the redesigned first hours. There is no official requirement to wipe an Early Access save, and the 1.0 world additions are available to continuing players. The practical trade-off is therefore about sequence and preservation, not access to the headline content.
