Choose the Dyson V8 if the specific package you’re considering suits your budget and you value a lighter listed weight; choose the Cyclone V10 if you want a higher advertised runtime ceiling, more power modes, or—on the older V10 specification sheet—a larger bin. Those differences are not a cleaning-performance test: the exact generation, included head, condition, and price matter more than the V8 or V10 name alone.

The values above come from Dyson product materials, not independent comparative testing. The V8 listing and older V10 sheet may describe different configurations or measurement conditions, so the table is a guide to what those specific sources state—not proof that every V8 or V10 differs in the same way.
Which one fits your home?
Choose the V8 when a lighter listed weight or a suitable deal matters most
The surfaced US V8 listing is 5.6 lb. If you frequently carry a vacuum between floors or maneuver it overhead, weight can matter, but compare complete machines as sold: the older V10’s 5.90 lb figure includes its body, wand, and cleaner head, and the cited V8 page does not establish an equivalent measurement basis. Dyson describes two cleaning modes for this V8 listing.
Do not rely on the $539.99 figure as a current offer: Dyson’s US page extract showed that price with the item marked out of stock when accessed in 2026. Check whether the exact package is available from a seller you trust and whether it is new, refurbished, or used.

Choose the Cyclone V10 when runtime flexibility is a priority
Dyson advertises up to 60 minutes and three power modes for the Cyclone V10. That maximum is not the expected runtime for every cleaning session: Dyson says it varies by mode and attachment, and gives examples of up to 35 minutes with a Torque Drive head in Suction mode I and up to 40 minutes with a Soft Roller head in Suction mode I. These are Dyson’s stated figures, not independently measured results.
Let your floors and the included head decide close calls
For a home with both hard floors and carpet, compare the exact cleaner head and tools in each package rather than choosing by model name. The V8 page surfaced here describes a Motorbar head; V10 materials reference Torque Drive and Soft Roller options. The names do not guarantee that a particular head is included with the unit you are buying. Check the listing’s package contents, especially if you need a head suited to a specific floor type.

Know which V8 or V10 you are comparing
Dyson has used V8 and V10 naming across more than one configuration. Newer products called V8 Cyclone and V10 Konical are distinct from the V8 and Cyclone V10 configurations discussed here; do not substitute one for the other when comparing specs or buying parts.
Dyson’s support directory identifies V8 family models including SV10, SV10E, and SV25, and Cyclone V10 models including SV12 and SV27. Use the exact model or SV identifier from the machine label or seller listing to confirm which product you have. Dyson cordless vacuum support and model directory

Check the listing before you buy
- Confirm the product generation. Look for the precise product name and model/SV identifier; a V8 or V10 label alone may not distinguish configurations.
- Read the package contents. Confirm the included floor head, attachments, charger, and any other items you need. Do not infer them from a product-family name or a photo.
- Compare condition and seller. Check whether the vacuum is new, refurbished, or used, along with the seller’s return terms and the listing’s current price and availability.
- Match the specs to your priorities. Treat maximum runtime as an advertised ceiling, and compare weight figures only when their measurement basis and included components are clear.
Replacement parts and compatibility
Dyson’s support directory provides model-family information, guides, replacement parts, and accessories. Batteries, filters, cleaner heads, and other parts may be model-specific.
