The official way to download Xbox account data is through the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard. Sign in at account.microsoft.com/privacy, open Download your data, create an archive, and download the finished ZIP. Microsoft says the archive contains the selected data types as JSON files.
If you only need to see time played, use the per-game Game activity > All achievements > Stats screen on an Xbox console, or the Achievements area of your Xbox profile on the web. Minutes appear only for games that record that statistic. Xbox does not provide a permanent, automatic lifetime-hours total for every game on an account, and the seasonal Year in Review page is a recap rather than a downloadable archive.
How do I download my Xbox history as a file?
Use the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard, not an Xbox console storage menu. The dashboard creates a ZIP archive of the data types Microsoft makes available for your account; the files inside are JSON.

- The Microsoft account that owns the Xbox profile whose data you want.
- A browser in which you can complete Microsoft sign-in and any security verification.
- Enough local storage for the archive and an application capable of opening ZIP and JSON files.
Download the archive
- Sign in to the account at https://account.microsoft.com/privacy.
- Open Download your data. Microsoft may change the exact category wording or group Xbox information under activity, gaming, apps, or a similar label; use the category descriptions rather than relying on an old screenshot.
- Select the Xbox or activity data types you want and choose the option to create an archive.
- Wait for Microsoft to prepare the archive. It does not necessarily become available immediately.
- When the archive appears under Archives, select Download beside it and save the ZIP file.
- Open the ZIP and then open an individual JSON file in a browser, text editor, or JSON viewer. Microsoft describes the contents as individual archives of the selected data types in JavaScript Object Notation format.
The archive is a copy of the data types exposed by the dashboard at the time you request it. It is not a promise that every Xbox service record, every session, or every game’s minutes-played field will be present. Microsoft’s Privacy Statement says that access, deletion, update, and portability requests can also be directed to privacy support when a tool does not provide the information you need; the listed contact is aka.ms/privacyresponse.

What the ZIP may and may not answer
- It gives you a machine-readable copy rather than a polished Xbox statistics report.
- Microsoft’s support description confirms JSON files, but does not publish a guaranteed schema for Xbox play sessions or a field that always contains lifetime minutes.
- Do not assume that a missing minutes-played value means you never played a game. A title must record the statistic, and Microsoft says not all games track it.
- The archive is different from downloading a purchased game, a saved game, or an Xbox 360 profile package.
How do I see hours or minutes played on Xbox?
Xbox displays playtime per game when that title supplies a minutes-played statistic. The value is found in the game’s statistics screen, not as a single account-wide counter.
On an Xbox console
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Game activity, then All achievements.
- Choose the game you want to inspect.
- Select Stats. If the title reports playtime, minutes played appear with its other statistics.
Menu names and placement can move after dashboard updates. The path above is the one documented by Xbox Support; an older console or account configuration may show the same information through a profile or gaming tab instead.
On the web
- Sign in at account.xbox.com.
- Select your gamerpic in the top-right corner and open Xbox Profile, then Achievements.
- Select a game, then select Achievements again to open that game’s details.
- Read the minutes-played value among the displayed stats, when the game provides one.
Xbox Support explicitly cautions that not all games track this stat. A blank or absent value is therefore a limitation of the title’s telemetry, not proof that the account has no history.

On the Xbox PC app
Sign in with the same Microsoft account, open your gamerpic, and choose View profile or the profile’s gaming and achievements area. The exact labels vary by app release. The web profile path is the more stable fallback when the PC app has been redesigned.
Can I export Xbox achievements and Gamerscore?
Your achievements are tied to the signed-in Microsoft account and synchronize through Xbox cloud services. The official dashboard is the file-download route; the console, Xbox app, and xbox.com are the viewing routes.
Why achievements follow you between devices
Xbox Support explains that cloud storage saves achievement progress as well as game progress. Sign in to the same account on another supported console, Windows device, or Xbox app and the unlocked achievements should be associated with that profile. This does not make every game’s minutes-played statistic portable or complete: titles choose which statistics they write to Xbox services.
Where to view the list
- On console, open Game activity > All achievements, then choose a title.
- On the web, open your Xbox Profile and Achievements at account.xbox.com.
- In the Xbox app, open your profile and its gaming or achievements view.
These screens show achievements and Gamerscore but do not create a separate, dedicated “achievements export” file. Include any available activity or gaming category when you create a Privacy Dashboard archive if you need a local copy.

Does Xbox have one lifetime total for all hours played?
No. Xbox’s documented interface is organized around statistics for each game, and there is no permanent in-system counter that automatically adds every minute from every title on the account.
A game can show a lifetime-looking minutes value for that title while another game shows nothing. Differences arise because Xbox game developers choose which player statistics to send and whether to use event-based or title-managed achievement and statistics models. Consequently, adding the visible values yourself will still omit games that never report minutes and records that Microsoft does not expose in the dashboard archive.
What is Xbox Year in Review, and can it replace a download?
Year in Review is a temporary, shareable recap website, not a data-export service. The 2024 edition advertised total time played, total achievements, top genres, top gameplay month, the three most-played games and their statistics, plus profile and social highlights.
Xbox announced the 2024 recap at www.Xbox.com/YearinReview and stated that it was available in select markets until January 31, 2025. The page required sign-in and allowed readers to browse and share the recap while it was live. It did not produce a ZIP or JSON archive.

A recap can also be unavailable because of your market, the calendar year, or the page’s expiration. Treat it as a bonus summary, not a dependable historical backup.
Can unofficial tools export Xbox playtime?
Some third-party services query Xbox data or display community statistics, but they are not Microsoft exports and can expose less data than the official dashboard.
Xbl CLI with OpenXBL
The unofficial Xbl CLI uses an OpenXBL account and a personal API key. Its documented functions can incrementally retrieve achievements and statistics, write JSON or HTML output, and chart hours when a game reports minutes. The free OpenXBL tier is limited to 150 requests per day, and the project notes that the quota reset is about 25 hours rather than the website’s misleading “requests/hour” label.

Achievement-only updates can cover 149 titles per run, while statistics are paginated at 100 games per page. The tool warns that not all games support time statistics; its documentation uses The Witcher 3 as an example. Importing an Xbox 360 STFS profile package is a separate process and is not part of the current Privacy Dashboard ZIP workflow.

Keep it as a specialist option after trying Microsoft’s own archive and profile screens.
Tracker sites
Community trackers can show Gamerscore, completion, or achievement history, but their coverage depends on synchronization and your visibility settings. RivalRyze documents that Xbox does not report playtime to its service, so its Xbox profile card can show no playtime even when Xbox itself displays minutes for a title. It also reports that hidden game and app history can make a sync find no games; changing the Xbox privacy setting that allows others to see game and app history may be required.
TrueAchievements has been cited by the Xbox community as a “My Year on Xbox” alternative when Microsoft does not publish a recap. It is a community site, not an official Microsoft download, and its own export and retention behavior should not be treated as Microsoft policy.
How do privacy and publisher data-sharing settings affect Xbox history?
Microsoft’s October 2026 Xbox data-collection summary says users can access, delete, and manage their information through the Privacy Dashboard and Xbox privacy settings. The same summary says an Xbox console generates approximately 8 MB of data per day on average, although the exact amount varies by user.

Required service and diagnostic data can include Xbox product and service usage, actions in Xbox applications, games and content viewed, purchase and wish-list information, your name, age, gamertag, country, and data needed for connected network features. Optional diagnostics can include detailed reliability events such as launches, startup failures, and crashes; Edge browsing history on the console can also be included when that option is enabled.
Microsoft’s game-and-app data-sharing notice says publishers may receive achievements unlocked, time spent in a game or app, presence, statistics, rankings, and enforcement or social information. Publishers are independent controllers of data they receive. To stop sharing with a publisher, Microsoft says to remove all of that publisher’s games or apps from every device where they are installed; playing offline, signing out of Xbox Live, or revoking available consent can affect functionality.

Review Xbox privacy controls at account.xbox.com/settings before using a tracker or requesting an archive. A profile hidden from “others” can prevent third-party synchronization even though you can still see your own records after signing in.
How do I download or review a child’s Xbox activity?
Family organizers can manage a child’s information through Microsoft Family Safety and the parent’s Privacy Dashboard. Open account.microsoft.com/family to manage the family group, and use the organizer account when viewing or deleting a child’s available data.

Xbox Family Settings provides additional parental controls. Microsoft says access and deletion options can vary by local law; authenticated child-data deletion requests are processed within 30 days, and closing a child Microsoft account starts a 60-day waiting period before permanent deletion. The available material does not establish an official Family Safety control that exports a child’s Xbox hours as a separate CSV or JSON file, so use the organizer’s Privacy Dashboard tools for any downloadable archive that Microsoft offers.

The archive is not ready
Return to Download your data and check Archives later. Only use Download after Microsoft marks the archive as available. If the requested category is absent, use Microsoft’s privacy-support route rather than assuming the information exists in another Xbox menu.
A game has no minutes played
Check another title to distinguish a game-specific limitation from an account problem. Xbox says not all games track minutes, and a title’s statistics model determines which fields are written.
A tracker finds no games
Check Xbox privacy settings and allow game and app history to be visible to the service that is synchronizing. Then refresh the tracker. This changes third-party visibility; it does not add missing Microsoft records.
The console menu has moved
Use the documented Xbox button > Game activity > All achievements > game > Stats route first. If a dashboard update presents a profile or gaming tab instead, use the equivalent achievements page or switch to the web profile at account.xbox.com.

A Year in Review link no longer works
That is expected when the seasonal window has ended or the recap was not offered in your market or year. It cannot be recovered as a ZIP; request a Privacy Dashboard archive for the records Microsoft makes available.

For a durable copy, start with the Privacy Dashboard. For an immediate answer about one game, use its Stats page. Use a seasonal recap or third-party service only when its coverage and privacy trade-offs fit your purpose.
How we selected these methods
The methods above are separated by what they actually deliver: an official downloadable archive, an official per-game view, a temporary Microsoft recap, or an unofficial API or tracker. The distinctions are based on Microsoft’s documented navigation and data rights, the Xbox Support limitation that some games do not track minutes, and the stated quotas and coverage limits of third-party services.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download my Xbox save files from the Privacy Dashboard?
No. The dashboard archive is a copy of selected account and activity data in JSON; it is not a backup of game installations or console save files. Cloud saves are handled by Xbox game services and are not presented as ordinary dashboard-download documents.
Why does my Xbox profile show achievements but no playtime?
Achievements and minutes are separate statistics. A game can implement achievement events without writing a minutes-played value, so the achievements page can be complete while the Stats area has no time entry.
Will deleting Xbox data remove my Gamerscore?
A Privacy Dashboard deletion request concerns Microsoft-held personal data and is not the same as resetting a game’s achievement system. Read the confirmation shown for the specific deletion request and use Microsoft privacy support if you need to know how it affects a particular record.
Can I combine playtime from several Microsoft accounts?
Xbox associates achievements and game statistics with the account that earned them. There is no Microsoft-supported merge that creates one combined lifetime-hours counter across separate accounts; export or review each account independently.
