Yes. Intel specifies a maximum turbo frequency of 6.2 GHz for the Core i9-14900KS, reached with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost. That is the processor’s peak turbo specification—not its base frequency. Intel’s official announcement and boxed-product ordering information confirm the specification independently of any particular retailer listing.

What does the i9-14900KS’s 6.2 GHz figure mean?

Intel calls 6.2 GHz the processor’s maximum turbo frequency. It is the top clock the chip can reach under the conditions for its turbo technology, not a promise that every core will run at that speed continuously or that 6.2 GHz is the base clock. Intel says the maximum is available out of the box with Thermal Velocity Boost in its March 14, 2024 announcement.

So if a listing says “up to 6.2 GHz,” it is consistent with Intel’s published specification. The figure alone does not establish how often a particular system will reach that clock during a workload; actual operation depends on the system and conditions.

What else does Intel specify?

Specification Intel’s published figure
Maximum turbo frequency Up to 6.2 GHz, with Thermal Velocity Boost
Core configuration 24 cores: 8 Performance-cores and 16 Efficient-cores
Threads 32
Intel Smart Cache 36 MB
Processor base power 150 W
Maximum turbo power 253 W

These figures come from Intel’s product announcement. Processor base power and maximum turbo power are different specifications; neither should be treated as a retailer’s shorthand TDP label or, by itself, as a complete cooler recommendation.

Does a retail listing prove the clock speed?

A retailer’s listing can repeat the manufacturer’s specification, but the specific third-party listing implied by the headline has not been independently identified here. Intel’s own product announcement is the primary confirmation of the 6.2 GHz maximum turbo figure. Intel’s ordering information also identifies a boxed retail SKU, BX8071514900KS, and a separate tray SKU, CM8071504820506. Those official records do not verify what a particular retailer displayed or whether a listing is currently live.

What should you check before building with one?

Intel identifies Z790 and Z690 motherboards as compatible in its launch information and recommends using the latest BIOS. Check the exact motherboard model’s CPU support list and BIOS requirements with its manufacturer before buying or installing the processor. Intel’s compatible-products page is a starting point, but board-specific support is the relevant check for a build.

Does 6.2 GHz establish how fast it is in practice?

No. Maximum turbo frequency describes a peak clock specification, not a comparative performance result. Intel’s launch materials include the company’s own product claims, but they are not independent benchmark findings. To compare the 14900KS with another processor, look for independent tests using comparable workloads and configurations; a headline clock number alone cannot establish which chip is faster for your use.
