Yes. PlayStation Portal can use Remote Play away from home over broadband Wi-Fi; it does not have to share the PS5’s home network. Your paired PS5 must be online and either powered on or in Rest Mode, and the connection needs to be good enough for streaming.
What you need for away-from-home Remote Play
- A configured PS5: Portal Remote Play connects to a paired PS5, not directly to a game or to a PS4. The console must be connected to the internet and either powered on or in Rest Mode.
- Broadband Wi-Fi where you are: PlayStation says home Wi-Fi is not required and that Portal can be used wherever broadband internet Wi-Fi is available. A hotel, workplace, or other public network may work, but its speed, stability, and sign-in process can affect play.
- A PlayStation account: Sign in on the PS5 with the same account used on Portal.
- A compatible game: Remote Play streams compatible games installed on the paired PS5. Some titles or features are excluded.
PlayStation’s current product guidance says to have at least 5 Mbps available and recommends 15 Mbps for a better experience. These are network-speed guidelines, not guarantees of smooth play: actual quality depends on connection conditions at both ends. PlayStation Portal Remote Player product FAQ

Set up the PS5 before you leave
- While near your console, connect Portal and confirm Remote Play works. PlayStation notes that Portal may not find the console if it has been a while since the last sign-in.
- On the PS5, sign in to the same PlayStation account used on Portal and install available system software updates.
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- If you want Portal to wake the PS5 from Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

Using Portal on hotel or public Wi-Fi
Public Wi-Fi can work, but you may have less control over connection quality than at home. A network can be slow, congested, or require a browser-based sign-in before devices can access the internet. For certain public networks that require additional validation, PlayStation supports the sign-in flow on Portal software version 3.0.1 or later. You need a phone or tablet to complete the steps, and initial Portal setup on home Wi-Fi must already be complete. This support does not mean every hotel or public network will work; access rules and network performance vary.
Remote Play and Cloud Streaming are different
Portal offers two ways to stream, but they have different requirements. Remote Play sends a stream from your own PS5; Cloud Streaming sends supported games from PlayStation’s cloud service.

A game may still require a membership for its own online multiplayer features even though Remote Play itself does not require PS Plus. PlayStation also excludes games that require VR hardware or additional peripherals from Portal Remote Play, as well as games that must be streamed on PS5 using PS Plus Premium.
