Yes. Moonshot AI’s policies say it collects the prompts and other content you submit, along with the content its services generate. What may happen next depends on whether you use consumer Kimi or Kimi OpenPlatform: the consumer policy permits de-identified content to be used for model optimization and provides a customer-service request to stop training use; OpenPlatform describes training and model refinement as service-improvement activities. Neither policy gives one universal number of days for deleting prompts.
This distinction matters because consumer Kimi and the developer platform have separate policies, different account and retention language, and different controls. The consumer Kimi Privacy Policy was published by Beijing Moonshot Technology Co., Ltd., with an effective date of August 31, 2026, and a last-updated date of August 24, 2026. The OpenPlatform policy is controlled by MOONSHOT AI PTE. LTD. in Singapore. A product-specific privacy policy may take precedence, so the statements below apply to the product and policy identified in each section.
What does Moonshot AI collect when you use Kimi?
Moonshot’s consumer and developer-platform policies both define conversation content broadly. Collection is not limited to the text you type: the policies include content you input and content the service generates, and they also describe technical, account, and usage information.
Consumer Kimi
The consumer policy covers kimi.com, Kimi apps, Kimi Claw, and related products. It says Moonshot collects the content you input and output, including text, voice or audio, images, and video. It also lists quota usage, chat history, device and network information, identifiers, IP address, browser type, language, and access time. The policy explains that processing text, audio, images, or files is needed to provide normal conversation features.

Kimi OpenPlatform
OpenPlatform defines user content as prompts, audio, images, videos, files, and other content you input or generate while using its products and services. Its policy also lists account, log, device, usage, cookie, and communication information. In practice, an API prompt is covered as user content; a generated answer is covered too.
These are policy descriptions of categories, not a statement that every interaction necessarily contains every listed data type. For example, a text-only request does not become an audio upload merely because audio is among the categories the policy says it may collect.
Does Kimi use prompts to train or improve its models?
Consumer Kimi’s policy permits model optimization using input and output content after it has been encrypted and strictly de-identified. OpenPlatform describes training and refining models and algorithms as part of improving its services. The policies therefore do not support treating all Kimi prompts as automatically excluded from model improvement.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Consumer Kimi’s stated approach
The consumer policy says it may use content you input and output to optimize models on the premise that it has been processed with secure encryption technology, strictly de-identified, and cannot be used to re-identify a specific person. It also says product access and use may be analyzed to improve the service experience. These are separate descriptions: the first concerns content and model optimization, while the second concerns use data and service analysis.
The policy gives consumer users a way to request that their content stop being used for model training: contact customer service through the contact details in Section 11 of the policy. Moonshot says it will verify the user’s identity and then stop using that user’s content for model training. This is a request-and-verification process, not a stated in-product toggle. The policy does not specify a processing time or explain whether the request changes the handling of content already used before the request.
OpenPlatform’s stated approach
The OpenPlatform privacy policy says information may be used to provide, maintain, improve, and develop services; it explains that improvement includes training and refining underlying technology such as machine-learning models and algorithms. The OpenPlatform terms also say content may be used to provide, maintain, develop, support, and improve services, comply with law, enforce policies, and help keep services safe and secure.
Rank #2
For customers who need restrictions on use of customer content for training or model improvement, the terms point to enterprise arrangements or separate written agreements. That is a contractual route, not a general consumer setting described in the policy. An organization considering OpenPlatform should confirm the exact restrictions it needs in an applicable agreement rather than assume that consumer controls or default policy language apply to its API account.
How long does Moonshot AI keep prompts?
The policies describe retention by purpose and circumstances, not by a universal countdown. Consumer Kimi does not publish a fixed number of days for an individual prompt. OpenPlatform says account, input, and payment information are retained while the account is active, but that statement is not a promise that all information is erased immediately after account closure.
Consumer Kimi retention
The consumer policy says chat history is collected to maintain continuity and that users can delete historical conversation information. It says information is kept only for the period necessary to achieve service purposes, with anonymization or deletion when products cease operating subject to legal requirements. It does not give a fixed prompt-retention period, describe a universal deletion deadline after a chat is removed, or say that deleting a conversation immediately removes every associated copy or record.
OpenPlatform retention
OpenPlatform says it stores information as long as necessary to provide services, fulfill policy purposes and other legitimate business purposes—such as service improvement, dispute resolution, safety, or security—and meet legal obligations. It gives account, input, and payment information retained while an account is active as an example. It also says retention can vary with information type, sensitivity, legal requirements, and, in some cases, settings.
Accordingly, “stored while the account is active” is important account-status language, but it should not be converted into a precise after-closure deletion date. The policy does not state a single post-termination schedule for all prompt data.
Where is Kimi data stored?
The OpenPlatform policy says collected information is stored on secure servers in Singapore and may be transferred outside a user’s country with safeguards. The cited consumer Kimi policy does not provide an equivalent single-region statement. Do not assume that the OpenPlatform storage statement establishes the location of consumer Kimi data or of every product under the Moonshot name.
If storage geography is a contractual or regulatory requirement, identify the exact product and account type, then check its applicable policy and any agreement. The available policy language supports a Singapore statement for OpenPlatform, but not a universal location claim for all Kimi products.
What privacy controls can Kimi users use?
Consumer Kimi describes controls for chat history, saved conversation memory, and model-training use. OpenPlatform describes broader data-rights requests, but also warns that account deletion is irreversible and makes associated account content or information unretrievable.
Consumer Kimi controls
- Delete historical chats: The consumer policy says users may delete historical conversation information. It does not specify in the cited language how long deletion takes to propagate to all systems or whether every backup is removed at the same time.
- Manage saved conversation memory: Users can disable or re-enable saved conversation memory in product settings, and view and manage saved content. The policy does not equate this memory control with deletion of chat history.
- Request exclusion from model training: Contact customer service using the policy’s Section 11 contact details. Moonshot says identity verification is required before it stops using the user’s content for model training.
OpenPlatform rights and account deletion
OpenPlatform users can request access to, rectification or updating of, transfer of, or deletion of personal information; they can also request restriction of processing, withdraw consent, and lodge complaints with competent authorities. The policy directs users who cannot exercise a right in settings to contact api-service@moonshot.ai.
OpenPlatform’s policy warns that choosing to delete an account means it cannot be reactivated and associated content or information cannot be retrieved. Treat that as a consequential account action, not as a reversible way to clear one prompt. If you need a narrower correction or deletion, the stated data-rights channels may be more appropriate than deleting the whole account.
How do the consumer and OpenPlatform policies differ?
The clearest differences are the responsible entity, the wording on training, the retention description, and the controls available. The table summarizes only what the cited policies and terms state; it does not imply that every product shares the same processing rules.
| Topic | Consumer Kimi | Kimi OpenPlatform |
|---|---|---|
| Policy entity and scope | Beijing Moonshot Technology Co., Ltd.; policy covers kimi.com, Kimi apps, Kimi Claw, and related products. Effective August 31, 2026; last updated August 24, 2026. | MOONSHOT AI PTE. LTD. in Singapore; applies to OpenPlatform. A product-specific policy may take precedence. |
| Training or improvement | Input and output content may be used for model optimization after the stated encryption and strict de-identification conditions. Customer service can receive a request to stop training use after identity verification. | Training and refining models and algorithms are included in service improvement. The terms direct customers needing restrictions to enterprise arrangements or separate written agreements. |
| Retention | Kept as long as necessary for service purposes; users may delete chat history. No fixed prompt-retention period is stated. | Retention depends on purpose and other factors; account, input, and payment information are cited as retained while the account is active. No universal post-closure period is stated. |
| Storage location | A single storage region is not stated in the cited consumer policy. | Secure servers in Singapore; transfers outside a user’s country may occur with safeguards. |
| User controls | Delete historical chats; manage saved conversation memory in settings; request that content stop being used for model training through customer service. | Data-rights requests include access, correction, transfer, deletion, restriction, and withdrawal of consent; contact api-service@moonshot.ai if settings do not support a request. |
| Enterprise restrictions | No equivalent enterprise-contract route is stated in the cited consumer policy. | Training or improvement restrictions may be discussed through enterprise arrangements or a separate written agreement. |
What should you do if you do not want a prompt used for model improvement?
Start by identifying whether the prompt was sent through consumer Kimi or OpenPlatform. The policies describe different routes, so a control for one should not be assumed to apply to the other.

- Identify the product and account. Consumer Kimi includes the website, apps, Kimi Claw, and related products under its policy; API use belongs to OpenPlatform.
- For consumer Kimi, make a training-use request. Use the customer-service contact details in Section 11 of the consumer policy. Ask for the model-training opt-out and be prepared for identity verification.
- For OpenPlatform, review the governing terms. If your organization requires training or improvement restrictions, discuss them through an enterprise arrangement or separate written agreement before sending sensitive content.
- Use chat and memory controls for their stated purposes. Deleting a historical chat and managing saved conversation memory are distinct controls; neither should be presented as a guaranteed training opt-out unless the applicable policy says so.
- Use a data-rights channel for account data requests. OpenPlatform users who cannot exercise a right in settings can contact api-service@moonshot.ai. Before account deletion, consider that the policy says reactivation and retrieval of associated information will not be possible.
What do the policies say about security and sharing?
OpenPlatform says it may share information with service providers, including hosting, cloud, customer-service, safety-monitoring, analytics, and payment providers, when needed for their work. It also identifies possible sharing with affiliates, parties to corporate transactions, and authorities in specified circumstances. These statements describe potential categories and circumstances; they do not mean every prompt is shared with every listed recipient.
Recommended Free Tools
The policy describes safeguards such as encryption, access controls, monitoring, backups, and breach-response measures, while also stating that absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Security protections and data minimization are different questions: safeguards address protection, while collection, model-improvement use, retention, and deletion are governed by the applicable policy and any contract.
What is the practical privacy takeaway?
Assume that prompts and generated content are collected when you use Moonshot’s services, because both consumer Kimi and OpenPlatform policies say so. Consumer Kimi describes a verified customer-service route to stop training use of content; OpenPlatform treats model training and refinement as service improvement and points customers who need restrictions to contractual arrangements. Neither policy supplies a universal deletion clock, and the Singapore storage statement applies specifically to OpenPlatform.
For sensitive information, choose the product whose terms and controls match your requirements before submitting it. If you need a guarantee—such as a defined retention period, a training restriction, or a specific storage location—look for that commitment in the policy or a binding written agreement for the exact product, not in a general assumption based on the Kimi brand name.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does turning off Kimi memory delete my old chats?
The consumer policy describes saved conversation memory and historical chat deletion as separate controls. It does not say that disabling memory deletes existing chats, so use the chat-history deletion control for conversations you want removed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDoes a Kimi training opt-out remove prompts already used to improve a model?
The consumer policy says Moonshot will stop using your content for model training after it verifies your identity and processes the request. It does not explain whether a request reverses prior use or removes information from a model that has already been trained.
Can an OpenPlatform customer require prompts to stay out of training?
The OpenPlatform terms say customers who need restrictions on training or model improvement may discuss enterprise arrangements or a separate written agreement. The policy does not promise that a general account setting provides that restriction.
Does deleting my OpenPlatform account erase every copy of my data immediately?
The policy says account deletion prevents reactivation and retrieval of associated content or information, but it does not specify an immediate, universal purge timeline for every system or backup. It also says retention can reflect legal obligations and legitimate business purposes.
