Yes, Epic says it may use information to train machine-learning technologies for moderation and safety, and it collects gameplay telemetry. That is not the same as saying it trains a general-purpose generative AI on every player’s gameplay. Voice is handled differently: Fortnite voice reporting uses a rolling local capture until a participant submits a report, while Epic’s documentation for Fortnite’s UEFN LLM Conversations feature says player voice audio is not stored or used to train AI models.
Does Epic use Fortnite gameplay data to train AI?
Epic’s Privacy Policy says it collects gameplay and application-usage information and may use information to improve technologies, including by training machine-learning systems to detect and moderate illegal, harmful, toxic, or fraudulent conduct and content that violates Epic’s terms or policies. The policy was last updated April 22, 2026.
The disclosed purpose matters. Epic specifically identifies moderation and safety; its public wording does not say that all gameplay telemetry is fed into a general-purpose generative AI model. It also does not promise that gameplay data is never used for any other model-development purpose. The most accurate conclusion is therefore limited: Epic discloses moderation-related machine-learning training, but its public policy does not establish a blanket rule about every possible AI-training use of gameplay information.
What Epic calls gameplay information
Epic says it automatically collects information about gameplay and use of its applications. Examples include the game played, how long and when it was played, gameplay attempts, progression and results, saved preferences, crash reports, page views, time spent, clicks, and platform type. These are not necessarily recordings of a player’s actions or conversations; they include telemetry and usage details about how an application is used.

Collection and model training are related but distinct questions. A policy describing collected telemetry does not, by itself, say that every listed data point is used to train a model. Epic’s stated machine-learning purpose is moderation and safety, and the public material does not map each collected telemetry category to a particular model or training dataset.
Are Fortnite voice chats recorded and used for AI?
Fortnite’s voice-reporting system is designed around a short rolling capture on the player’s device, not continuous access by Epic to every conversation. When voice reporting is on, the last five minutes of voice chat are captured on the player’s console or PC; audio older than five minutes is automatically deleted unless a participant submits a report.
Epic says it cannot access voice audio unless voice reporting is on and a participant submits a voice report. In other words, the presence of a rolling local capture does not mean Epic has uploaded or can listen to all of that audio. A report changes that: the participant submits the relevant audio to Epic for review.
What happens after a voice report
Audio submitted to Epic is ordinarily auto-deleted after 14 days or after the duration of a sanction, whichever is longer. An appeal or a legal obligation can extend retention. The 14-day period is not an unconditional maximum: a longer sanction, appeal, or legal requirement can affect how long a submitted clip is kept.

This reporting workflow should not be conflated with AI training. The Fortnite Voice & Text Reporting FAQ describes when audio is captured, when Epic can access it, and ordinary deletion timing. It does not say that every reported voice clip is used to train a generative AI model.
Does Fortnite send voice data to an AI service?
For Fortnite’s UEFN LLM Conversations feature, Epic documents a specific data flow: player voice audio is securely sent to Google Gemini so the feature can generate a response. Epic says that audio is not stored and will not be used to train AI models. This is a feature-specific statement, not a description of every Fortnite voice chat or every Epic service.
Epic also says that player transcripts from unreported interactions with those LLM characters are not stored or used for training. If a player reports an interaction, a text log is sent to Epic to help improve model safeguards. The reported text log and the transient voice input are different data types with different handling, so the no-training statement about voice audio should not be broadened into a claim that nothing related to a reported interaction is sent to Epic.
How do gameplay telemetry, voice reporting, and conversational AI differ?
They involve different data, purposes, and points at which Epic receives information. Treating them as one pipeline can lead to misleading conclusions about what is captured, what is uploaded, and what Epic says it uses for AI.

Is Fortnite voice reporting always on?
It depends on the player’s age and the voice channel. Players aged 18 or older can choose “Always On” or “Off When Possible,” but public Game Channels remain reportable. Voice reporting is always on for chats that include a player under 18, with parental controls available.
“Off When Possible” is not a guarantee that reporting is disabled in every channel. Epic’s exception for public Game Channels means players should check the voice-reporting indicator in Fortnite’s sidebar before speaking if they want to know the status for the channel they are using.
How can I stop Fortnite from capturing my voice?
For an adult account, the available reporting preference is under Communication → Voice Reporting. Choose “Off When Possible” to disable reporting where Fortnite allows it; public Game Channels remain an exception. Muting the microphone or setting voice chat to “Off” prevents capture.

- Check the channel indicator. Look at the voice-reporting indicator in Fortnite’s sidebar before talking, since channel type affects whether reporting is on.
- Change the adult reporting preference if appropriate. Open Communication → Voice Reporting and select “Off When Possible.” This does not disable reporting in public Game Channels.
- Mute or disable voice chat to prevent capture. If you do not want voice audio captured, mute the microphone or set voice chat to “Off.”
- For a child’s account, review parental controls. Under-18 voice reporting is always on for chats that include under-18 players. Parents can use Epic parental controls, including reviewing the control that allows voice and written communication with AI features.
These settings address voice capture and access to AI-character communication; they do not change the separate gameplay-telemetry practices described in Epic’s Privacy Policy.

Can Epic listen to party chat or recover old conversations?
Epic says it cannot access Fortnite voice audio unless voice reporting is on and a participant submits a report. Muting or turning voice chat off prevents capture. Separately, Fortnite says it does not store or provide access to past voice or text conversations; chat is intended for real-time use and is automatically cleared.
That statement about past chat history should not be confused with a submitted report. A report is an intentional submission of a captured clip, and the reporting FAQ gives it a separate retention schedule. Nor does the real-time-chat statement describe gameplay telemetry, which Epic lists separately in its Privacy Policy.

Epic Online Services (EOS) says that for services such as voice, achievements, and matchmaking, Epic processes data only to operate those services. Its Trust Statement also says partner data is not shared without explicit authorization. That is a statement about EOS service operation and partner data, not a substitute for the privacy terms of every game that uses an Epic service.

For a particular game, the game publisher’s own privacy policy and in-game settings may also matter. The EOS statement alone does not establish that all games using Epic services collect, retain, or use information in identical ways.

What should players take away from Epic’s public statements?
- Gameplay: Epic collects gameplay and application telemetry and discloses machine-learning training for moderation and safety. The public policy does not say all gameplay data trains a general-purpose generative AI.
- Ordinary voice chat: With reporting on, a rolling five-minute capture is kept locally until it ages out or a participant reports it; Epic says it cannot access it without a submitted report.
- Reported audio: A submitted clip has an ordinary deletion period tied to 14 days or the sanction duration, whichever is longer, subject to appeals and legal obligations.
- LLM character voice: The UEFN LLM Conversations documentation says voice audio is sent to Google Gemini for a response but is neither stored nor used to train AI models. Unreported transcripts are also not stored or used for training; a report sends a text log to Epic for safeguards.
- Settings: Adult preferences have limits, public Game Channels remain reportable, and chats including under-18 players have stricter reporting. Muting or turning off voice chat prevents capture.
These conclusions reflect Epic’s public Privacy Policy and feature documentation as described above. Privacy policies and feature behavior can change, so players who need the latest account-specific details should consult Epic’s current privacy and Fortnite support materials.

Does turning off Fortnite voice chat delete a voice clip I already reported?
Epic’s reporting guidance gives a retention window for submitted audio, but it does not say that changing a voice-chat setting removes a report already sent to Epic. A setting that prevents future capture should not be treated as a deletion request for previously submitted material.
Can I see or download the gameplay telemetry Epic has collected about me?
The public statements summarized here describe categories of automatically collected gameplay and application information, but do not specify whether every category can be viewed or downloaded through an account-data request. Check Epic’s current privacy materials and account privacy tools for the options available in your region.

No single EOS statement establishes identical handling by every game publisher. Epic describes how it processes data for its own online services; a game’s publisher may have separate terms and privacy disclosures for the rest of the game.
