Yes. EmuDeck supports local multiplayer in several Steam Deck emulators, but setup depends on the emulator: enable extra controller ports in Dolphin and RMG, configure player inputs in Ryujinx, or use per-game controller profiles in Cemu. mGBA local multiplayer is the exception: EmuDeck’s guide says it works on Steam Deck only in Desktop Mode.
Which EmuDeck multiplayer setup should you use?
| Emulator | Mode in EmuDeck’s documented workflow | Main setup action |
|---|---|---|
| Dolphin (GameCube and Wii) | Game Mode | Enable the required controller ports. |
| RMG (Nintendo 64) | Game Mode | Enable additional ports and assign player devices. |
| Ryujinx | Game Mode | Configure each additional player’s input device and profile. |
| Cemu | Game Mode | Enable extra controllers in the game’s profile. |
| mGBA | Desktop Mode only | Open separate multiplayer windows and assign a controller to each. |
These are emulator-specific instructions, not a universal EmuDeck multiplayer toggle. See EmuDeck’s guides for Dolphin, RMG, Ryujinx, Cemu and mGBA.
Set up extra controllers in Dolphin
EmuDeck’s Dolphin guide says the default multiplayer controls are configured, but you still need to enable a port for each player. The Deck’s built-in controls use Port 1 by default. For example, using the Deck plus two external controllers requires three player ports total, so enable two additional ports.
- Connect the controllers while in Game Mode.
- Open Dolphin and go to Controller settings.
- For each GameCube player, enable Standard Controller for that port. For Wii multiplayer, enable Emulated Wii Remote for each player.
- Enable enough ports for everyone playing, counting the Deck if you will use its built-in controls.
The guide’s custom-control instructions are for changing the default layout; you do not need them just to use EmuDeck’s configured multiplayer controls.

Configure RMG for Nintendo 64 multiplayer
EmuDeck says RMG’s multiplayer controls are configured out of the box; enable the extra ports and assign the intended device to each added player. Its guide lists these virtual gamepads and profiles:
- Player 2: Steam Virtual Gamepad 1; profile
steamdeck2. - Player 3: Steam Virtual Gamepad 2; profile
steamdeck3. - Player 4: Steam Virtual Gamepad 3; profile
steamdeck4.

Configure player inputs in Ryujinx
In Game Mode, open Ryujinx settings and configure each additional player slot. EmuDeck’s guide assigns Steam Virtual Gamepad 1 to Player 2, then successive virtual gamepads to later players. For each slot, select a controller type, load the intended profile and save the settings. If the player assignments do not match the physical controllers, rearrange controller order in Game Mode.
Enable extra controllers in Cemu per game
EmuDeck recommends setting up Cemu multiplayer per game: in Cemu, right-click the game, choose Edit Game Profile, open Controller, and select the respective Deck profile for Controllers 2 through 4. This game-by-game approach matters because enabling extra controllers can disable single-player controls in a handful of games.

Use mGBA multiplayer in Desktop Mode
EmuDeck’s mGBA guide says local multiplayer on Steam Deck can only be done in Desktop Mode. It uses a separate emulator window for each player.
- Open mGBA and choose File → New multiplayer window for each additional player.
- In each window, open Tools → Settings → Controllers and assign the controller for that player.
The guide maps Player 1 (including the Deck) to Microsoft X-Box 360 pad 0, and Players 2–4 to pads 1–3, respectively.

Fix controller order, Steam Input conflicts and double input
The second controller is controlling the wrong player
This is often an assignment-order issue rather than a missing emulator port. In Game Mode, open Quick Access, choose Quick Settings, then select Rearrange controller order. EmuDeck’s external-controller guide notes that external controllers may need this adjustment.
An emulator does not show enough players
Check the emulator’s own setup first: enable more ports in Dolphin or RMG, or configure additional player slots in Ryujinx. Connecting another controller to the Deck does not automatically enable another emulator player.

Gyro or another controller-native feature is missing
Steam Input provides standardized Deck controls, but it can conflict with controller-native features such as gyro. EmuDeck documents disabling Steam Input for the affected game as a possible workaround; a restart may be needed. This is a feature-specific troubleshooting step, not a general multiplayer fix.
Inputs are registering twice
Check compatibility notes for the exact controller model. EmuDeck specifically notes double inputs with the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller and suggests trying Steam Input disabled for the affected game. That note does not establish the same issue for other 8BitDo models or external controllers generally.
Controls do not work with an emulator’s Steam Input profile
EmuDeck’s FAQ recommends Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad when an emulator does not have an EmuDeck Steam Input profile. The FAQ lists profiles for Cemu, Citra, DuckStation, melonDS, mGBA, PPSSPP and RMG. See the EmuDeck controls FAQ for the current profile guidance.
Keep emulator setup in mind
EmuDeck’s guides document multiplayer workflows, but exact steps can change with software updates. For a later version, check the relevant emulator guide linked above and confirm its current menus and profile instructions.
