Sometimes—but only if the phone and earbuds support a compatible audio mode. A Bluetooth 5.2 label alone does not guarantee LE Audio: the phone’s model, Android version, manufacturer software and firmware all matter. If the phone supports only Classic Audio, LE Audio-only earbuds will not work with it; earbuds that also support Classic Audio may connect using that older mode instead.
What does it mean for LE Audio earbuds to work with an older phone?
There are two different questions behind “will they work?” The first is whether the phone and earbuds can connect using LE Audio. The second is whether they can connect at all using another supported audio mode. A pair of dual-mode earbuds might work with an older phone through Classic Audio without using LE Audio features.
LE Audio is Bluetooth’s newer audio architecture. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG) says it relies on a core feature introduced in Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2: LE Isochronous Channels. That technical baseline does not mean every device with Bluetooth 5.2 supports LE Audio. The feature also has to be implemented and enabled in the specific phone, operating system and earbuds.
For a real-world example of how those requirements narrow compatibility, Bose says LE Audio is supported on select Android devices that have Bluetooth 5.2 or later and run Android 13 or newer. “Select” matters: those criteria are not a guarantee that every phone meeting them supports the feature. The phone manufacturer’s implementation and the exact model still matter.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Will LE Audio earbuds work with a Bluetooth 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2 phone?
Do not decide from the Bluetooth version number alone. A phone’s Bluetooth version and its support for a particular audio mode are related but not interchangeable.
| What the phone specification says | What you can conclude |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth 5.0 or 5.1 | The version label does not establish LE Audio support. Check the exact phone model and its software support. |
| Bluetooth 5.2 | It meets the specification-version reference for the core feature, but does not prove that the manufacturer implemented or enabled LE Audio. |
| Bluetooth 5.2 or later, with Android 13 or newer | This matches the broad criteria Bose gives for select supported Android devices, not a universal compatibility guarantee. |
| Explicit LE Audio support listed for the exact phone | This is stronger evidence, but the earbuds must also support a compatible LE Audio mode and the relevant software may need updating. |
For Bluetooth 5.0 or 5.1 phones in particular, the available data provides no basis for saying that the version number itself is enough—or for declaring every such phone incompatible. Look up the manufacturer’s specifications or support page for your exact model. If those materials do not confirm LE Audio, treat support as unverified rather than assuming that a newer pair of earbuds will add it.
Can a Classic Audio-only phone use LE Audio-only earbuds?
No. An LE Audio-only earbud and a Classic Audio-only phone use different approaches, so they cannot be expected to connect as a working audio pair. Bluetooth SIG states that Classic Audio sink products are not compatible with LE Audio source products because the source and sink must use the same approach.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe relevant distinction is not simply “old Bluetooth” versus “new Bluetooth.” It is whether both sides have a compatible audio mode available. A newer phone may support LE Audio; older Bluetooth devices may support only Classic Audio. If either side lacks the mode the other requires, the Bluetooth version printed on the packaging will not bridge that gap.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Can dual-mode earbuds fall back to Classic Audio?
Yes, if the earbuds support both LE Audio and Classic Audio, they can potentially connect to a Classic Audio-only phone using the Classic Audio path. That can preserve basic compatibility, but it does not mean the older phone is using LE Audio.
Check the specifications for the exact earbud model rather than relying on the product family name or a general mention of LE Audio. Confirm whether Classic Audio is supported alongside LE Audio. If that fallback is not documented, do not assume it exists. The phone must also support the mode you intend to use; an earbud’s dual-mode capability cannot add LE Audio to a phone that lacks it.
How can I check compatibility before buying?
Check the phone, earbuds and software as a combination. These steps help separate confirmed LE Audio support from fallback connectivity or an unverified claim.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Find the phone’s exact model and Android release. Check the manufacturer’s specifications or support page for an explicit LE Audio statement. Note the software version required; Android release alone is not sufficient proof. Bose’s guidance, for example, refers to select devices with Bluetooth 5.2 or later and Android 13 or newer.
- Check the exact earbud model’s audio modes. Look for LE Audio and, where relevant, LC3 in the model’s documentation. Separately verify whether it supports Classic Audio if you need it to work with an older phone.
- Check firmware and software requirements. Update the phone and earbuds using the manufacturers’ supported update process. Feature availability can depend on firmware as well as the source device; Avantree’s compatibility list warns that LE Audio and Auracast features can depend on both.
- Decide whether you need LE Audio specifically or only a working connection. If the phone has no confirmed LE Audio support, Classic Audio fallback may meet a basic listening need only when the earbuds support it too. If you need LE Audio features, fallback is not a substitute.
- Look for a documented transmitter alternative. Some products provide a model-specific route that does not use the phone’s LE Audio implementation. Confirm what the transmitter connects to and whether it supports your intended use before buying.
What if my Android phone does not show an LE Audio option?
First, confirm that the phone model, Android software and earbuds are all listed as compatible; a missing setting is not evidence that pairing failed. Then update the phone and earbud firmware, pair the earbuds normally, and inspect their Bluetooth settings for an LE Audio control.

Sony’s INZONE Buds guide documents this sequence: pair normally, open the earbuds’ Bluetooth settings and look for an LE Audio toggle. The precise labels and availability can differ by phone and product, so the guide for your exact devices is the one to follow. If the option remains absent after updates, the phone may not expose or support LE Audio for that model, or the earbuds may not support it in the current configuration. The available information does not establish a universal Android menu path or a single fix for every phone.
Can a USB transmitter work around a phone without LE Audio?
Sometimes, if the earbuds’ manufacturer documents a compatible transmitter for that specific model. Sony says INZONE Buds can connect to an Android smartphone without LE Audio through the supplied USB transceiver. That is a product-specific alternative, not a general feature of LE Audio earbuds.
Sony also notes a limitation: audio from a Bluetooth-connected device and audio from the transceiver-connected device cannot be heard simultaneously. Check the product guide for connection requirements and supported phone hardware, and do not assume that any USB adapter or transmitter will work. A transmitter route may provide a connection without making the phone itself LE Audio-capable.
Is Auracast the same as LE Audio?
No. LE Audio is the broader audio technology; Auracast is a broadcast feature built on LE Audio. Ordinary one-to-one pairing and broadcast listening are different uses, so confirmation of one does not automatically establish support for the other.

This distinction is important when checking product descriptions. Avantree’s compatibility list, updated September 30, 2026, explicitly warns that a device can support LE Audio without supporting Auracast. Google Android announced on September 3, 2025 that Auracast support was expanding to more devices, but that announcement does not make the feature universal. Verify Auracast support for both the device and the particular use you have in mind.
Which earbuds and phone examples are documented?
Examples can help identify what to look for, but they are not guarantees for every phone or firmware version.
- Sony WF-1000XM5 and Sony LinkBuds S: Avantree’s compatibility list, updated September 30, 2026, names these as LE Audio-capable and makes support subject to firmware and source-device compatibility.
- Sony INZONE Buds: Sony documents the USB-transceiver connection for Android smartphones without LE Audio and notes that transceiver and Bluetooth audio cannot be heard simultaneously.
For any named model, check its current documentation and your phone’s exact support information. A list naming earbuds as capable does not certify an unlisted phone, and a workaround documented for one earbud model should not be generalized to other products.

If you want LE Audio, buy only after confirming explicit support for the exact phone and earbuds, including any Android and firmware requirements. If your phone is older or its LE Audio support is unclear, choose earbuds whose documentation explicitly includes Classic Audio as a fallback—or a model with a documented transmitter option that fits your phone.

- Buy for LE Audio: both source and earbuds must support compatible LE Audio behavior.
- Buy for basic older-phone compatibility: verify Classic Audio support on both devices.
- Buy for Auracast: verify Auracast separately; LE Audio support alone is not enough.
- Unclear specifications: treat compatibility as unconfirmed and ask the device maker about the exact model and software version before purchasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will LE Audio earbuds connect to my laptop or older Bluetooth speaker?
Only if the source device supports the same compatible audio approach as the earbuds. A device that supports only Classic Audio cannot use LE Audio-only earbuds; check its manufacturer’s specifications rather than relying on its Bluetooth version.
Does LE Audio support mean the earbuds can receive Auracast broadcasts?
No. Auracast is a separate broadcast feature built on LE Audio, and device makers may support one without the other. Check the exact model’s documentation for Auracast specifically.
Can I use one pair of earbuds with both an older phone and a newer LE Audio phone?
That depends on whether the earbuds support both Classic Audio and LE Audio, and on how the manufacturer handles switching between devices. The cited compatibility information does not establish universal multipoint or simultaneous-connection behavior, so check the earbuds’ own documentation.

Does LE Audio guarantee better sound or longer battery life?
The compatibility information cited here does not establish a guaranteed sound-quality or battery-life improvement for a particular phone-and-earbud combination. Check the manufacturers’ claims for the exact models and conditions rather than treating LE Audio support itself as a performance guarantee.
