It is designed for that flexible screen, and removing it or fitting an unsuitable replacement can damage the display or affect touch response. The outer cover screen is different: an extra protector there is optional and must be made for your phone’s exact model.
Why the inner screen’s factory film is different
A foldable phone’s inner display bends, so its protective film is part of a model-specific display arrangement—not simply a generic sheet of plastic. Motorola says the Razr film is tailored to its folding design, while Samsung describes its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip main-screen film as designed for foldable devices.
That is why advice for a conventional flat phone does not automatically apply. Google warns Pixel Fold owners not to remove or peel back the pre-installed protector because doing so can cause damage. Samsung warns that removing or applying film arbitrarily can damage the panel or cause touch irregularities. Motorola cautions that third-party inner-screen protectors may affect sensitivity, make the screen unresponsive, or damage it.
What to do if the inner film bubbles or peels
If the factory film bubbles, warps, lifts, or separates from the display, do not pull it off or press on it with a sharp object. Follow the manufacturer’s service guidance for the exact phone. Motorola directs Razr owners with bubbles, warping, or separation to an authorized service center and warns against unauthorized replacement. Samsung directs owners to a service center for replacement.

Policies and guidance can vary by model and region. Samsung’s cited support material includes regional guidance and older model-specific information, so check the current local support page for your generation. Do not assume that one brand’s replacement or warranty rules apply to another.
Inner display versus outer cover screen
The flexible inner display and the exterior cover screen are separate surfaces with different protection needs. Manufacturer warnings against removing or replacing film concern the foldable inner display; they do not establish that every cover screen needs an additional protector. If you choose one for the cover screen, verify the exact phone generation and fit, and use it only on that outer display.

How to reduce the chance of damage
- Avoid pressing hard on the inner display or touching it with sharp objects; Motorola specifically cautions against concentrated hard or sharp pressure.
- Before folding the phone shut, check for debris or other objects on the display and around the hinge. Motorola advises checking between the screens and hinge; Google warns against closing the Pixel Fold with particles on the display or in the hinge.
- Do not treat an ordinary third-party film as a safe replacement for the inner screen’s fitted film. Check the phone maker’s instructions for your exact model before any replacement.
Manufacturer guidance by phone family
Motorola Razr
Motorola says its Razr includes a protector developed for the folding design and advises: “Don’t use third-party screen protectors.” For a film that bubbles, warps, or separates, Motorola says to contact an authorized service center. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip
Samsung warns that removing the main-screen film or applying unofficial film can cause screen damage or touch problems, and directs owners to service centers for replacement. Its guidance includes regional and model-specific material, so check the current support information for your particular device.
