Choose Dicey Dungeons for a more established, character-led dice roguelike, or Dice A Million if escalating score runs and shop-driven upgrades sound more appealing. There is no evidence-based universal winner; the right pick depends on the decisions you want to make during a run.
How the three games differ
| Game | What the dice are for | Where the main decisions sit | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dicevaders | Manipulate dice with Chrono and budge mechanics, then use matching pairs, triples, and quadruples to trigger combos and improve scoring. | Place invaders on a turn-based grid; build an alien force by acquiring units and artifacts. | Players who want tactical placement and run-to-run build choices. |
| Dicey Dungeons | Dice-driven roguelike play; the cited Steam listing establishes its identity, genre, and store details but does not support a finer mechanical comparison here. | A character-and-equipment-oriented alternative. More detailed decision-by-decision comparisons are not established by the available source. | Players considering an established dice roguelike with characters and equipment. |
| Dice A Million | Dice contribute to escalating score runs alongside cards and rings. | Score-building choices and shop upgrades, with increasingly harsh bosses and shop prices, as described by PC Gamer. | Players drawn to escalating scores and compounding upgrades. |
The clearest way to choose is to ask what you want your dice to activate or score, how much control you want over rolls, whether you prefer grid placement or equipment and shop decisions, and whether you want tactical run-building or escalating score combos. The cited descriptions do not establish a full mechanics-by-mechanics matrix for all three games, so the distinctions above stay within what their sources support.
Why choose Dicevaders?
Dicevaders combines turn-based grid tactics with dice manipulation. You build an alien force, acquire units and artifacts, and place invaders to improve scoring; matching dice can produce combos. Its Steam description puts the emphasis plainly: “Dice aren’t a game of chance here, they’re your most powerful tool.”
Pengonauts developed Dicevaders and Playstack published it. The game released on Steam and Nintendo Switch on September 29, 2026, according to the official launch announcement. That announcement advertises 10 commanders, more than 60 units, 120 artifacts, more than 30 constellations, six difficulty levels, a multiverse campaign with 13 additional challenge modes, and daily challenges. These are developer-announced feature counts, not independent audits.

Steam showed 94% positive reviews from 288 users when its listing was retrieved on October 4, 2026. That is a dated platform snapshot, not an independently sampled quality measure, and both the review count and percentage can change. See the Dicevaders Steam listing for its current store information.
When Dicey Dungeons is the better fit
Pick Dicey Dungeons if you are looking for an established dice-driven roguelike built around characters and equipment rather than Dicevaders’ specific grid-placement premise. Terry Cavanagh developed and published it; its Steam release date is August 13, 2019. The Steam listing identifies it as a single-player roguelike.

- Mini Rogue is a game profoundly inspired by roguelikes and roleplaying games. Monsters, hazards, treasures, bosses, dungeons, as well as random rooms and encounters are all featured in this new and revised version of Mini Rogue.
- You play as an adventurer delving into a dungeon, room after room, floor after floor, area after area, level after level, to find the Og’s Blood, rumored to be a fabled and mysterious ruby gemstone.
- Each area of the dungeon is laid out as a branching path of rooms. Each time you face two rooms, you will have to choose and explore one. You will resolve each encounter by rolling dice and managing resources to complete your adventure.
- In each room, you may encounter a monster, find a treasure, discover a resting area, meet a merchant, dodge traps, or face many other surprising events. Each level ends with a powerful Boss monster which you will have to defeat to continue onto to the next level. You win the game by reaching the last room of the Dungeon and defeating the final Boss Monster, thus collecting the Og’s Blood.
- 30 minutes of gameplay for 1 to 2 players, ages 12 and above.
A limited physical Nintendo Switch edition began sale through Super Rare Games on September 22, 2022, according to the historical edition record. That date does not establish whether copies remain available, what a current listing contains, or which regions it serves.
When Dice A Million is the better fit
Consider Dice A Million if you are more interested in pushing a score run upward through combinations of dice, cards, and rings. PC Gamer’s March 4, 2026 overview describes runs against increasingly harsh bosses, with shop prices also rising. That makes it an adjacent option for people who enjoy upgrade-driven escalation, rather than a direct substitute for Dicevaders’ grid tactics.
