Dell Latitude 7275: At First Glance

Adding keyboards to tablets has been a recent trend in the tech world. Hence, many people enjoy the luxury of using their computer with or without a keyboard.

In this review, we will talk about one of Dell’s 2-in-1 offerings – Latitude 7275, which comes at a mouth-watering price. Speaking of the price, when I wrote this review in February 2022, the Dell Latitude 7275 sold for $394.89.

It is a known fact that most affordable computers usually sacrifice performance for their price. However, to discover if that is the case with the Dell Latitude 7275, you need to continue reading this article.

Dell Latitude 7275: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

The Dell Latitude 7275 has no sophisticated appearance, but it still manages to wear a sleek look. Its chassis is built with magnesium alloy, which makes it tough.

As a 2-in-1 laptop, the Dell Latitude 7275 is designed into two parts – the tablet and the keyboard. Hence, you can decide to detach the keyboard and use the device in tablet mode.

On the other hand, you can also attach the keyboard and use the Dell Latitude 7275 in laptop mode.

The tablet part of the Dell Latitude 72 is designed in black color. Meanwhile, the other half, which is the laptop’s keyboard, comes in a fuzzy gray design.

This fuzzy keyboard design makes it pleasant to look at and gives it a woolly feel.

For the keyboard part of this laptop, it comes together with a folio (casing). The folio does not only house the keyboard, it also serves as a kickstand and a protective covering for the tablet.

For a better view of the screen, the folio can be adjusted up to 100 or 130 degrees.

The folio is covered with a thin layer of material which gives it a nice feel. Additionally, the folio has a Dell logo on its back.

Meanwhile, if you decide to remove the folio, you will feel the smooth and solid chassis of the tablet. Just like the folio, the back of the tablet also has a Dell logo.

Thankfully, you can easily attach the tablet to the folio with the help of a magnetic dock. Opening the Latitude 7275 in laptop mode is also an easy task and you can do that with one hand.

Upon opening this laptop, its 12.5-inch display surrounded by thin bezels will impress you. The top bezel houses a 5 MP camera which works well for video calls.

Speaking of the camera, the Latitude 7275 also has an 8 MP rear-facing camera for taking pictures.

Back to the display, it has two resolution options. The first option has a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

Meanwhile, the second option has a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution, which has four times better quality than the first option.

In addition to its impressive display resolution, this laptop also comes with other great display features. To start with, the Dell Latitude 7275’s display is coated with corning gorilla glass.

For better understanding, corning gorilla glass is a toughened glass that is damage-resistant. Hence, the display on this laptop is scratch and crack resistant.

Furthermore, this display comes with an anti-fingerprint coating that keeps it clean from fingerprints.

Still on the display, the Dell Latitude 7275 comes with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. With this aspect ratio, you will enjoy widescreen videos without black borders distracting your view.

Additionally, this laptop also comes with a decent peak display brightness of 360 nits. Hence, using the display outdoors should not be a problem.

The last display feature we will talk about is its touchscreen functionality which completes the tablet experience of this laptop.

Moving away from the tablet area to the lower part of the laptop, you will find the keyboard. The keys are well-spaced, flat, and have a short key travel.

For better understanding, key travel refers to the distance between a key’s unpressed and fully pressed positions. For some users, short key travel makes them type faster.

Hence, such users will find the keyboard on this laptop comfortable to type on.

Having talked about the keyboard, it is only fitting that we talk about the touchpad just below it. This touchpad does its job well with accurate cursor movement and enough sensitivity.

Moving on to the connectivity options, this laptop features just a few ports. Precisely, it features two USB 3.1 Type-C ports and a headphone jack on the left side.

Also, the laptop features one HDMI port on the right side of the tablet.

We have said so much about the design features of this laptop already, now let us proceed to its size and weight. In regards to that, the Dell Latitude 7275 has a weight of 730 g.

It also has a dimension of 291 x 193 x 17.1 mm (W x D x H). Therefore, based on the figures above, this laptop is indeed lightweight.

In comparison, it is lighter than the Dell Latitude 2100, which has a weight of 1320 g. Also, it weighs less than the Lenovo Yoga 720, which has a weight of 2000 g.

Considering all I have discussed in this section, I can conclude that this laptop has a good design. Hence, I will be rating the Dell Latitude 7275 eight out of ten in this design review section.

Dell Latitude 7275: Processor (CPU) Performance

Regarding the processor, Dell Latitude 7275 features a dual-core Intel Core m5-6Y57. This processor has a base frequency of 1.20 GHz, a maximum frequency of 3.10 GHz, and a 4 MB cache memory.

With this processor’s base and boost frequencies, it should be powerful enough to handle any productive task.

To be sure of what this laptop processor can do, I will be sharing its Cinebench R10 result with you. The Cinebench R10 is a benchmark test tool that evaluates the performance of a computer’s processor.

Moreover, this test evaluates the single-core and multi-core performances of the processor. For clarification, the test result that assesses the laptop handling tasks with only one of its cores is called a single-core.

On the other hand, when the laptop processor uses all its cores, this is known as multi-core. Let me do well to inform you that the higher the score from this test, the better the performance.

Therefore, on this benchmark, the Dell Latitude 7275 scored 3849 points in the single-core test. On the other hand, the laptop scored 6428 points when all its cores were used.

In comparison, the Dell Latitude 11 5175 scored 3809 points in the single-core test. On the other hand, it scored 6204 points in the multi-core test.

In another comparison, the Dell Latitude 13 7370 scored 3889 points in the single-core test, beating the score of our review laptop. It also performed better on the multi-core test with 6652 points.

In conclusion, the processor in the Dell Latitude 7275 delivered an impressive performance in the benchmark test. Hence, I will be rating it an eight out of ten in this review section.

Dell Latitude 7275: Memory (RAM) Performance

Dell Latitude 7275 features LPDDR3 SDRAM which has a speed of 1600 MHz. Furthermore, this laptop has a standard memory capacity of 4 GB and a maximum memory capacity of 8 GB.

Unfortunately, this Dell business laptop has just one memory slot. Hence, to upgrade it, you need to remove the 4GB RAM and insert an 8GB RAM.

However, for the performance evaluation, we will focus on a Dell Latitude 7275 model with an 8 GB memory.

Speaking of which, 8 GB is enough memory size to perform a respectable amount of computing tasks. Moreover, with 8 GB on this laptop, you should be able to open about 15 Chrome browser tabs smoothly.

In addition to that, this laptop should also permit hopping from one application to another without any lag. However, to know more about this laptop’s RAM capability, I will be sharing its PCMark 10 result with you.

For clarity, a PCMark 10 benchmark is a test tool that evaluates the RAM performance of a computer. It is also important to note that a laptop with the highest score in this test demonstrates better performance.

Therefore, in the PCMark 10 benchmark test, the Dell Latitude 7275 scored 2,210 points. This score happens to be the exact average score of the benchmark test.

However, let us compare this laptop’s performance with other laptops in its category. Regarding that, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 performed better with 5,170 points.

Also, the Lenovo yoga 720 performed better than the Latitude 7275, with a score of 4,354 points in the same benchmark test.

In conclusion, the RAM performance of the Dell Latitude 7275 falls short of the two competitors I checked it against. Based on this performance, I will be rating it seven out of ten in this memory review section.

Dell Latitude 7275: Storage Options and Performance

The Dell Latitude 7275 comes with two storage options that you can pick from. Firstly, it comes with M.2 SATA SSD storage which supports a maximum capacity of 512 GB.

Secondly, you can get this laptop with M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD storage. Similarly, this storage option also supports a maximum capacity of 512 GB.

Although the two storage options are SSDs, one is a SATA SSD, while the other is an NVMe SSD. However, an NVMe SSD offers up to five times more bandwidth than a SATA SSD.

Hence, NVMe SSDs provide faster file transfers than SATA SSDs. As you might expect, due to the advantages of the NVMe SSDs, they come at a more expensive.

Having said that, you should be aware that this review is based on a Dell Latitude 7275 model with an NVMe SSD.

Furthermore, it will interest you to know that this laptop comes with an SD 4.0 Media card reader. This external storage is a welcomed addition to this laptop storage if you have many files to save.

Having talked about the storage specs, let’s move on to performance. To do this, I will be showing you the CrystalDiskMark result of this Dell Latitude 7275 model I am reviewing.

For clarity, CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark test that measures the read and write speeds of a computer’s storage.

Speaking of read speed, it refers to how fast it takes a file to open on a computer. On the other hand, write speed refers to how fast a computer is able to save a file to its storage.

Hence, from the benchmark test, the Dell Latitude 7275 had a read and a write speed of 1111 MBps and 1100 MBps, respectively.

In comparison, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373, a close competitor had a read speed of 1249.8 MBps and a write speed of 927.5 MBps.

From the test result, the Dell Latitude 7275 recorded a lower read speed than the Dell Inspiron 13 7373. This implies that the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 will probably open files faster than the Dell Latitude 7275.

Also, from the test, the Dell Inspiron 13 7373 recorded a higher write speed than the Dell Latitude 7275. Hence, it will probably save files to the storage drive faster than the Dell Latitude 7275 will.

Based on the test analysis, I will be rating the Dell Latitude 7275 eight in this storage review section.

Dell Latitude 7275: Graphics Card Performance

For graphics, the Dell Latitude 7275 comes with an Intel HD Graphics 515. The graphics card has a based frequency of 300 MHz and a boost frequency of 1000 MHz.

Although this GPU has a decent base and boost frequencies, it is an integrated graphics card. The implication is that the GPU does not have dedicated Video RAM, which limits its graphics capability.

Therefore, this GPU cannot play high graphics demanding games, unlike dedicated GPUs. However, this laptop should play Far Cry Primal (2016) at 11 fps at a low setting.

Also, the Dell Latitude 7275 should play Star Wars Battlefront (2015) at 18.7 fps at a low setting.

Despite not being a gaming laptop, it still handles some games impressively.

In addition to the gaming performance I have shared with you, I will also share this laptop’s 3D Mark benchmark performance. For a brief explanation,3D Mark is a benchmark test tool that measures the graphics ability of a computer.

Similar to other benchmarks discussed in this review, a higher score means better performance. That said, in a 3Dmark ice storm benchmark, the Dell Latitude 7275 scored 31,921 points.

In comparison, the Dell Latitude 7275 performed better than the Dell XPS 12 9250, which scored 31,627 points. On the other hand, the Dell Latitude 13 7370 performed better than the Dell Latitude 7275 by scoring 46,530 points.

Considering the performance of the Dell Latitude 7275’s storage in this test, I will rate it an eight out of ten.

Dell Latitude 7275: Battery Life and Performance

The Dell Latitude is powered by a 2-cell 30 Whr, Lithium-Polymer battery. Dell did not specify this laptop’s battery life expectancy.

However, without knowing this laptop’s battery life yet, I am almost disappointed by the battery capacity of this laptop already. This is because most laptops in this category offer nearly twice that battery capacity.

Nevertheless, let’s proceed to the battery performance using the data provided from a battery test performed by recombu.com. From the battery test, using office applications on a Dell Latitude 7275 model with a 4K resolution display will squeeze out a little under 4 hours of battery life.

Sadly, the battery life will still drop to about 3 hours from video streaming. In comparison to the Microsoft Surface laptop, the Dell Latitude 7275 significantly underperformed.

Truth be told, the battery life of the Dell Latitude 7275 is a drawback and will most definitely not last you through an entire workday. Hence, one will always have to carry the power pack along.

In conclusion, battery performance is one area where the Dell Latitude 7275 failed to impress. Therefore, I will be rating it a six out of ten in this section.
