Spoilers ahead. Dead Reset has exactly four official endings. The decisive structure is simple: Chapter 7 determines whether Fearne survives emergency surgery, and the final Chapter 8 choice selects one of two outcomes on that branch. Earlier relationships and alliances influence whether the surgery succeeds, but the game’s Redemption/Damnation language is a separate trust axis rather than the names of the four endings.
This guide covers the complete ending map, the choices that lead to each result, what happens to the characters, and why players disagree about which outcome is “good.”

What is Dead Reset?
Dead Reset is a live-action full-motion-video horror adventure from Dark Rift Horror and Wales Interactive. It released worldwide on 11 September 2025. You play surgeon Cole Mason, who wakes with amnesia in an underwater research facility and is forced to operate on Amanda to remove a parasite. Death sends him back through the facility’s loop, but each run reveals new dialogue, evidence and decisions rather than simply restarting the same scene.
The facility is about 10,000 metres below the ocean. Its escape pod takes two hours to reach the surface, while director Magson warns that the malfunctioning time-displacement machine will trigger a cascade failure and destroy the station in one hour. Cole eventually learns that he arrived as a test subject roughly six months earlier; the machine caused his memory loss and altered Amanda’s DNA, producing the creature.

The principal cast is Cole, head researcher Fearne, security chief Slade, director and inventor Magson, psychologist Weir and engineer Cooper. Crawford appears indirectly through a computer, retinal access and a prototype weapon. The launch trailer identifies Cole as 34 and a former Westwood Hospital surgeon.
How do the four endings work?
Think of the finale as a two-by-two grid. The first axis is Fearne’s status after the Chapter 7 operation. The second is Cole’s last decision in Chapter 8. Fearne alive gives you The Escapee or Chimera; Fearne dead gives you Connection Error or Death Eternal.

PlayStation trophies use those four names, and the separate Time Lord trophy unlocks when you have seen every ending. There is no officially designated fifth “true” or “secret” ending.

Choose Stop the bleeding during Operation. The game does not publish a numeric relationship threshold, so the exact trust value required is unknown. Published plot text says Cole’s success depends on his relationship with Fearne; trophy walkthroughs and community routes also say Slade must return to help during the surgery. In practice, a relationship built through protective and forgiving choices is the reliable pattern described by those guides.
Choices associated with the Fearne-lives route
- Save Cooper.
- Save Slade rather than leave him.
- Forgive them.
- Choose We can all survive.
- Trust Fearne or Give in, the Fearne-aligned response that can award The Devil You Don’t.
- Use Stop the bleeding in Operation.
These are route indicators, not a published checklist with guaranteed hidden points. The in-game relationship tracker shows your standing with living characters, so check it before Operation instead of assuming one isolated dialogue answer controls the result.
Choices associated with the Fearne-dies route
Choosing Keep her awake produces the Flatliner trophy and puts the story on the dead-Fearne branch. Walkthroughs commonly pair this with Leave Slade, It’s about survival and Shoot him, but the ending lock itself is the surgery result, not an individual combat animation.

What is The Escapee ending?
The Escapee is ending 1 of 4. Fearne must survive Operation, and Cole’s final choice in Redemption must be Go with Fearne. A route documented by Knoef also uses a successful kiss with Fearne, then Punch him, but the kiss is optional flavour rather than the lock.

Slade dies fighting the creature. Cole refuses a final confrontation and escapes with Fearne in the pod. The apparent victory has a serious sting: the creature imitates Slade’s voice to call a rescue team. Because the machine is not shown destroyed and the imitation may bring the creature a route to the surface, players often call this the good ending while still disputing whether it is safe.
What is the Chimera ending?
Chimera is ending 2 of 4. Keep Fearne alive with Stop the bleeding, then select Avenge Slade as the last Chapter 8 choice. Knoef’s route uses Shake hands after surgery before the final fight.
Slade dies battling the creature. Cole fights and apparently kills it, but the escape pod detaches automatically with Fearne aboard, leaving Cole behind. A later reveal shows that the creature has assimilated Cole into its body. Fearne is the surviving human shown in the ending, while Cole and the entity become one hostile organism.
What is the Connection Error ending?
Connection Error is ending 3 of 4. Fearne must die in Operation through Keep her awake, and Cole must choose Destroy the machine in the finale. This branch awards Flatliner for the failed surgery; a commonly documented route then uses Shoot him.

With Fearne gone, Cole and Slade fight the creature. Slade is mortally wounded. Cole destroys the time-displacement machine and tries to reach the escape pod, but Slade attacks and fatally stabs him. The damaged pod explosively decompresses, killing Slade as well. The creature may be the only survivor, although the ending does not show it escaping. Some viewers prefer this outcome because the machine is destroyed and there is no rescue call in the creature’s voice.

What is the Death Eternal ending?
Death Eternal is ending 4 of 4. Take the dead-Fearne branch with Keep her awake, then choose Reset the machine. In Knoef’s route, Stand your ground during the confrontation awards Handy Man before the reset.
Cole resets the machine hoping to return to the moment he was first placed inside it. Instead, the reset drops him into a shorter loop in which the creature kills him repeatedly. Slade escapes in the pod, while Cole is trapped in an apparently endless cycle of deaths. It is generally regarded as the worst result for Cole, even though Slade survives.
Do the Redemption and Damnation choices decide the ending?
No. The official phrase “Redemption or Damnation” describes the game’s morality and alliance track, not a second set of ending names. Mid-game, you can submit to Magson and work with Slade for The Devil You Know, or defy Magson and work with Fearne for The Devil You Don’t. The relevant choices include Bash in vent versus Give in.

A Magson/Slade-aligned first playthrough can still reach Chimera, which proves that working with Fearne is not an automatic route to The Escapee. The ending selector remains Fearne’s survival followed by Cole’s final Chapter 8 decision.
Which earlier chapters matter?
The eight chapters gradually expose the loop and build the relationships that feed Operation:
- Déjà Vu: the opening surgery loop. Varying the choices reveals many unique deaths for Slaughter; The Saw requires reaching for the bone saw both times.
- Squeeze: tunnels, power and Cooper’s fate. Use the radio for Fully Charged.
- Harbinger: the creature evolves and the Magson/Fearne trust fork appears.
- Metamorphosis: creature combat and Save Slade versus Leave Slade. Save Slade can lead to Growing Pains; Body Bags covers a death.
- Cascade: the machine debate, Magson’s motives and Crawford’s location. She’s a threat is associated with Known Unknown.
- Abyss: an oxygen run, Crawford’s computer, a retinal spare, the prototype weapon and Cole’s test-subject history. Hackerman, Eye Popping and Sharp Sticks are tied to these discoveries.
- Operation: Fearne’s surgery and the Stop the bleeding/Keep her awake split.
- Redemption: the creature fight, escape pod and final machine decision.
How should I replay for all four endings?
Plan on four story clears. Knoef Trophy Guides estimates Time to Platinum at 4–6 hours, with difficulty 1/10 and no missable trophies; the trophy mix is 1 platinum, 6 gold, 13 silver and 5 bronze. Steam lists 24 achievements. Those figures describe trophy completion, not a promise that every player will finish in the same time.

- Turn on Streamer Mode (also labelled Pause Choices in walkthrough advice) if you want unlimited time to read a decision or let viewers vote. It removes choice timers but does not add endings.
- On the first clear, learn the loop and establish a Fearne-lives or Fearne-dies route.
- After a completion, use the scene-skip function for previously viewed footage; on PlayStation, Knoef documents R1 for skipping. Wikipedia also describes already-seen cinematic sequences being skipped.
- For The Escapee and Chimera, repeat the relationship-friendly route and choose Stop the bleeding, then use Go with Fearne or Avenge Slade respectively.
- For Connection Error and Death Eternal, set up the opposing relationship route, choose Keep her awake, then use Destroy the machine or Reset the machine.
- Replay Chapter 1 deaths separately if you are pursuing Slaughter. Trophy tracking for those deaths has been reported as inconsistent, so verify the unlock before assuming one run recorded every variation.
Guides disagree about whether a permanent Chapter Select exists after one completion. One secondary guide claims it does; another all-endings write-up says there is no story tree or save system and recommends restarting. Because a later patch is not established here, rely on scene skipping rather than assuming Chapter Select will be available.
Is there a best or true ending?
There is no official ranking and no publisher-confirmed true ending. The Escapee looks best emotionally because Cole and Fearne leave alive, but the creature’s impersonated rescue call and the unresolved machine make that victory uncertain. Chimera saves Fearne but sacrifices Cole’s body; Connection Error kills Cole and Slade while destroying the machine; Death Eternal leaves Slade free and Cole in an endless death loop.
Choose your criterion instead: visible human survivors, containment of the creature, destruction of the machine or the least suffering for Cole. The four trophy names are canonical; labels such as good, bad, sad, hell, escape, hostile entity, core system error and factory reset are community shorthand.
Where can I play Dead Reset?
The game is listed for Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, iOS and Android. The Windows/macOS Steam listing specifies Windows 10, a 2.0 GHz CPU, 2 GB of RAM and 14 GB of available space. Steam showed a $14.99 list price and a temporary $9.74 price at 35% off, with the offer displayed as ending 2 November 2026; prices can change.
A physical PS5 disc was listed at £14.95 against a £19.99 RRP, PEGI 18, checked October 2026. The common search phrase for that edition is “Dead Reset PS5.”

What does the loop mean for the ending?
Most deaths are investigative progress. New runs expose the facility’s history, alter available dialogue and can open different choices. The four endings occur after Cole reaches the Chapter 8 resolution; they are not random variations of the tutorial loop. Death Eternal is the exception that deliberately turns the machine back into a shorter, punishing loop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does saving Fearne always give The Escapee?
No. Saving Fearne only places you on the two-ending branch. Go with Fearne produces The Escapee, while Avenge Slade produces Chimera.
Can I unlock every Dead Reset ending without replaying the whole game?
Scene skipping shortens later runs after you have viewed footage, and R1 is documented for PlayStation. Chapter Select is disputed by secondary guides, so do not depend on it unless your installed version clearly provides it.
Is Death Eternal a hidden fifth ending?
No. Death Eternal is the fourth of the four official endings, documented by the ending trophy set. Time Lord is the separate trophy for discovering all four.
What does Streamer Mode change?
It removes the time limit on decisions so a livestream audience can discuss or vote on choices. It changes pacing only; it does not create a new route or ending.
Why do some guides use different ending names?
Community guides use aliases such as Escape, Hostile Entity, Core System Error and Factory Reset. The canonical trophy names are The Escapee, Chimera, Connection Error and Death Eternal.
