Which Edgerunners-inspired build should you choose?
Choose Guts if you want point-blank pressure, heavy recoil and the most recognisable Rebecca reference. Choose Double Trouble if you prefer distance, precision and the visual idea of firing two eligible handguns. A Sandevistan suits the David-inspired concept, but available evidence does not prove one operating-system model or cooldown setup is mathematically superior after Update 2.5.
Guts: the classic close-quarters route
Guts is the clearest starting point for a David-and-Rebecca role-play build. CD PROJEKT RED’s official Ultimate Edition build booklet recommends obtaining Guts early and upgrading it. That is a publisher recommendation, not a post-2.5 laboratory ranking, so treat it as a thematic and practical foundation rather than proof that Guts has the highest damage in every situation.

Double Trouble: the Update 2.5 handgun route
Update 2.5 adds Double Trouble to the Cool tree. Its eligibility is specific: it enables dual-wielding for Power pistols and revolvers. It is not a blanket ability to dual-wield every pistol, every firearm or a shotgun. The perk is accompanied by four auxiliary perks in the tree, so inspect the current in-game descriptions and unlock the supporting nodes your version presents.

CD PROJEKT RED introduced the feature with “Sometimes one gun just isn’t enough.” A company representative described the change on October 22, 2026 as “That’s right — dual wielding is here!” Those lines describe the new mechanic, not a measured claim that dual handguns outperform Guts.
- Best fit: players who value mobility, target selection and headshots over shotgun proximity.
- Weapon rule: both equipped weapons must be eligible Power-category pistols or revolvers for the Double Trouble mechanic.
- Thematic option: Coronation, the revolver associated with Weak Kingsley in the new Edgerunners 2 content, fits the route. Current evidence does not establish it as the strongest revolver or confirm that two copies can be acquired.
When does a hybrid make sense?
A hybrid is useful when you want Guts for room-clearing but a Power handgun for encounters where range and precision matter. It is not a shortcut around specialization: a character that spends every perk point across unrelated weapon families will reach each identity more slowly. Pick one primary family, build its core perks first, then add the second weapon as a deliberate backup.
How do you build the Guts shotgun route?
Start with the weapon and combat distance, then add movement and survivability. The exact level-by-level attribute table and perk-point sequence are not established by current primary documentation, so use the following order rather than an invented threshold chart.

- Upgrade Guts as your crafting and upgrade systems allow. Keep the weapon relevant to your current level and replace lower-tier alternatives when its damage or handling falls behind.
- Take the shotgun-family perks that match your preferred distance. Prioritise effects that improve the way you actually use the weapon—close-range pressure, stagger, reload handling or survivability during an approach—without assuming an older guide’s perk names or order remain unchanged.
- Add mobility before luxury cyberware. A shotgun build must cross open ground. Use whatever movement options your installed version makes available, then add defensive capacity so an unsuccessful approach does not end the encounter immediately.
- Choose an operating system for tempo, not a claimed benchmark. A Sandevistan is thematically appropriate for a David-inspired character, but no cited current source proves a single model, tier or cooldown is best after Update 2.5. Pick the model whose activation rhythm and capacity cost suit your fights.
- Keep a ranged fallback. A Power handgun or another weapon that can reach distant targets prevents Guts from forcing every encounter into shotgun range. Do not spend deeply into the fallback branch until the shotgun core is working.
How should you fight with Guts?
Use cover and movement to close distance, fire when the target is inside the weapon’s reliable spread and relocate before a long reload leaves you exposed. The route rewards decisive entries rather than standing in the open trading shots. If you dislike recoil or regularly fight at long range, switch to the Double Trouble route instead of trying to turn Guts into a precision rifle.
How do you build the Double Trouble handgun route?
The handgun route begins in Cool and stays disciplined about weapon eligibility. Double Trouble is the defining investment; the rest of the build should make dual Power pistols or revolvers easier to aim, sustain and survive with.

- Confirm that your character is on Update 2.5 or later. The dual-wield branch is an Update 2.5 feature, not a feature to assume from a 2.31-era build list.
- Enter the Cool tree and locate Double Trouble. Read the current description and its four associated auxiliary perks. The precise unlock order can change with a patch or a respec, so follow the labels shown in your installed version.
- Equip only eligible Power pistols or revolvers. A handgun that looks similar but belongs to another weapon category will not satisfy the stated Double Trouble rule.
- Decide between pistols and revolvers by handling. Pistols generally suit sustained movement and repeated target changes; revolvers suit deliberate shots and a heavier Edgerunners gunslinger identity. This is a playstyle decision, not a sourced DPS ranking.
- Build for accuracy and uptime. Select the current handgun perks that improve your chosen firing pattern, then add movement and defensive cyberware. Avoid copying a perk sequence written for a pre-2.5 tree without checking every node.
- Test the weapon pairing in ordinary encounters before committing all remaining points. This is a respec decision, not a claim that one pair has been benchmarked. If recoil, ammunition flow or target switching feels wrong, change the pairing rather than forcing it.
Is Coronation mandatory?
No. Coronation is a thematic revolver linked to Weak Kingsley’s Edgerunners 2 quest content, but the available material does not prove that it is the strongest eligible weapon or that two Coronations are obtainable. Use it because the story and appearance fit your character; use another eligible Power revolver if its handling suits you better.
What cyberware should an Edgerunners build prioritise?
Prioritise an operating system, movement, survivability and enough cyberware capacity to support the weapon route. A precise “best cyberware” shopping list would imply current damage, cooldown and capacity testing that has not been established.

A Sandevistan is the natural David-inspired choice because it supports short, explosive attacks. The evidence does not establish one exact model, tier, cooldown or perk-point sequence as optimal in Update 2.5. Compare the operating systems available in your save by activation timing, capacity demands and how often you can safely use the effect, then choose the one that reinforces your route.
Movement and survivability
Both routes need mobility: Guts needs it to reach effective range, while dual handguns need it to maintain sightlines and avoid being surrounded. Add defensive cyberware early enough that a failed dash or missed headshot is recoverable. Treat capacity as a budget; a glamorous implant that prevents you from equipping basic movement or protection is a poor trade for either route.
Arm implants and appearance changes
Update 2.5 lets Glamdocs customise the appearance of Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and Projectile Launch System. CD PROJEKT RED’s representative described five Glamdoc locations, 40 cyberware appearance styles and 20 hairstyles. These are appearance options, not evidence of a damage increase. Choose the implant that matches your combat plan, and do not buy one expecting a cosmetic setting to improve its numbers.

Projectile Launch System as a thematic alternative
Projectile Launch System can fit an explosive Edgerunners aesthetic, especially for a character who wants a visual break from firearms. The available material does not verify a particular perk interaction or establish it as an optimum for either route. Treat it as a style choice unless your current game clearly shows that its mechanics support your selected perks.
Cyberware capacity shards
Update 2.3 fixed an issue so more Cyberware Capacity Shards could drop when intended drops had previously been missed. That change does not establish an unlimited farming method or a guaranteed identical capacity total for every save. Spend capacity carefully and do not build around a maximum figure copied from another character.
Do you need Phantom Liberty for this build?
No. The Guts and Double Trouble concepts can be treated as base-game routes, while Phantom Liberty adds optional systems and equipment. CD PROJEKT RED says the expansion includes its own Relic skill tree plus additional weapons and cyberware, including more than 100 new items. Label every Relic or expansion-exclusive recommendation clearly and provide a base-game alternative rather than assuming every reader owns the expansion.
Base-game route
Use Guts, the matching shotgun perks, movement and survivability, or use Double Trouble with eligible Power pistols and revolvers. This keeps the guide usable for a player who owns only the base game.
Phantom Liberty route
If you own the expansion, add Relic abilities and expansion equipment only after the core weapon identity is working. Relic investment can support the fantasy, but the available evidence does not identify a single Relic combination as the highest-performing answer for Update 2.5.

Use a simple sequence that remains valid even when exact item levels or perk costs differ between saves.
- Confirm your installed update and whether Phantom Liberty is present.
- Choose Guts close-range combat or Double Trouble dual handguns as the primary identity.
- Take immediately available mobility and survivability options.
- Obtain and upgrade Guts, or unlock Double Trouble and its supporting Cool-tree nodes.
- Spend the next points on the matching weapon family rather than scattering them across every firearm type.
- Choose an operating system after you understand your capacity and activation rhythm.
- Add cosmetic cyberware changes, a secondary weapon family and optional expansion abilities after the core loop feels reliable.
Which platforms support this build?
Do not silently apply Update 2.5 guidance to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. CD PROJEKT RED says post-1.6 content updates are unavailable on those systems. The initial Update 2.5 rollout covered PC, supported Mac storefront versions, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version followed afterward. Check the version number shown by your installed game before planning around Double Trouble or other 2.5 changes.
An older physical disc does not prove that Update 2.5 is installed. Updates are delivered according to the platform and edition you own, so verify the current patch rather than assuming the disc contains every later feature.

Can I dual-wield two shotguns with Double Trouble?
No. The Update 2.5 mechanic is described for Power-category pistols and revolvers. A shotgun remains a separate weapon route, with Guts serving as the Edgerunners-themed choice.
Is Guts still good if I do not own Phantom Liberty?
