Cyberpunk 2077 now supports Xbox Play Anywhere. CD PROJEKT RED announced the feature on October 22, 2026, and the Xbox listing carries the Play Anywhere badge. If it is not working, first check that the game was bought digitally and that the Windows Xbox app is signed in to the Microsoft account that owns it. Then diagnose the specific problem: missing license, failed installation, or a save that will not appear or load.
What should I check first?
Identify where the failure occurs before reinstalling or buying anything. A game missing from the Windows Xbox app library points first to the purchase or account; a game that is listed but will not install points to Windows or Store troubleshooting; and a missing or unopenable save is a separate sync or content-compatibility problem.
- Confirm the purchase type. Play Anywhere applies to qualifying digital purchases, not simply to owning an Xbox disc. Check whether the game was bought digitally through Xbox or the Windows Store, or obtained as an eligible retailer’s digital code.
- Identify the owning Microsoft account. Sign in to the Windows Xbox app with the account that made or redeemed the eligible purchase. Check My Library before starting an installation repair.

Xbox’s October 22 announcement describes one digital purchase working on Xbox consoles and Windows PC, with progress carrying over between supported platforms. A Buy button or missing library entry is usually an entitlement question to investigate before treating it as an install failure. Confirm the digital purchase and account first; downloading the game again cannot grant a license that is not associated with the signed-in account.

Check the digital license and account
Play Anywhere is limited to digital games. Make sure the digital purchase or eligible code was redeemed on the Microsoft account currently signed into the Xbox app. Xbox says an owned participating Play Anywhere game appears in My Library in the Windows Xbox app. Its Play Anywhere FAQ sets out the digital-game limitation.
If you have more than one Microsoft account, check the purchase history and the app’s signed-in identity rather than assuming the account used on the console is the same one used on the PC. If the purchase was a retailer code, confirm it was redeemed to the account you are checking. Keep the purchase or redemption details available if you need support. A family member’s console profile, a shared Windows login, or a different Xbox app account does not automatically transfer ownership.
Check the title in the Store while signed in to the same account. The expected state is an install option or a library entry, not a second purchase prompt. If the listing still says Buy, stop license troubleshooting there and verify the transaction, code redemption, edition, and region before changing Windows settings.
If you own an Xbox disc
An Xbox One disc does not become a PC Play Anywhere license. Installing or upgrading a disc-based console copy does not establish PC entitlement. If your goal is to play that existing disc on a newer console, CD PROJEKT RED says an Xbox One disc must be inserted in an Xbox Series X to install and play the next-generation console update. Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so that route is not available there. This disc guidance is for console use only; it does not solve a PC license or Xbox app installation issue. Do not purchase a physical copy as a workaround for a Windows license error. The physical-disc path and the digital Play Anywhere path are different license routes. A Series X can be relevant to someone who already owns the disc, but it does not create a PC copy.
Region, compatibility, and family checks
Microsoft lists region availability, device compatibility, account sign-in, and family settings among conditions that can affect whether Store content is visible. Confirm that the Windows region and family restrictions are not hiding the listing. If the console and PC use different regional editions, note that fact for support; regional SKU restrictions can also affect cross-progression saves later.
When to contact Xbox support
If the eligible digital purchase is missing from My Library while you are signed in to the confirmed owning account, contact Xbox or Microsoft purchase support with the account and transaction or code-redemption details. Do not buy the game again just to test whether the library entry appears. Also check account sign-in, region availability, compatibility, and family settings if visibility remains inconsistent. A support request should state that the purchase is digital, identify the Microsoft account, and include the exact Store status and any order information.

What should I do if the game is listed but will not install on Windows?
Once the game appears in My Library under the owning account, troubleshoot the Windows and Microsoft Store installation path. Start with updates and the Store’s built-in repair options; avoid deleting saves or using unverified commands as a first response.
- Update Windows and restart. If Windows recently installed an update, restart the PC before retrying the download. A pending restart can leave Store components in an incomplete state.
- Update Microsoft Store apps. Open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates and let available app updates finish. Retry the Cyberpunk installation only after the Store reports that updates are complete.
- Repair or reset the Store app where available. Microsoft’s guidance explains the Store app repair/reset options and reinstalling an app from the Store Library. Use the supported options for the app that is failing rather than applying registry edits or unrelated cleanup tools.
- Clear the Store cache if the issue persists. Press Win+R, enter
wsreset.exe, and press Enter. When the Store opens again, sign in and retry from the library. - Check account and availability conditions. Confirm the Xbox app and Store are using the intended account, then consider region availability, device compatibility, and family settings.
- Retry from the library, not a random web result. Start the install from the owned item shown in the Store or Xbox app. If the listing alternates between Install and Buy, record both states and the account shown before contacting support.
Microsoft’s Microsoft Store app troubleshooting guide describes these general repair steps. If the title remains unavailable or installation fails after them, use Xbox Support’s game-installation guidance and provide the exact error message. For error 0x87e0000d, retain the code when contacting support: the available official guidance does not establish a Cyberpunk-specific command or guaranteed fix for it. Why is my Xbox save missing on PC?

- Connect the source game to a CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Open Settings > Gameplay and enable cross-platform Saves.

- Open Load Game on the destination and check for the uploaded save.
The publisher says it uploads the latest save of each save type; it does not promise that every historical save will be copied. A newly created manual save is therefore the safest diagnostic. Keep the source device and its original saves intact until the destination has successfully loaded the copy.
Xbox One-to-Series X|S console migration is a separate process, for which CD PROJEKT RED describes cloud upload or transfer over the same network. Do not confuse that console migration route with moving a save between Xbox and another storefront. If a console migration works but a Windows save is absent, return to the Microsoft-account and CD PROJEKT RED-account checks rather than repeating the console transfer.

Common sync mistakes
- Using a different Microsoft account on the PC even though the console profile is correct.
- Linking a different CD PROJEKT RED account through My Rewards.
- Assuming an old save will upload when no new save was created after enabling cross-platform Saves.
- Closing the game before the cloud icon appears.
- Deleting the source save to force a refresh.

Why can I see a save but not load it?
A save can be visible in the cloud and still be incompatible with the destination installation. Compare the installed expansion content, enabled mods, and—if the copies are from different regions—the game editions before trying another sync.
Check Phantom Liberty at both ends
CD PROJEKT RED says a save created in the base game can load in Ultimate Edition, but a save created with Ultimate Edition cannot load in an installation without Phantom Liberty. Check that any already-owned expansion is installed and recognized on the destination before considering a purchase. Xbox lists Phantom Liberty as a separately available add-on and as included with Ultimate Edition. Check the edition on both devices, then check the installed add-ons list. Owning an expansion is not the same as having its files installed and recognized. If the destination already owns Phantom Liberty, install or restore that add-on before buying anything. A base-game save should remain usable in Ultimate Edition, but the reverse direction requires the expansion content.
Compare enabled mods
CD PROJEKT RED says the same mod set must be enabled on both platforms for a modded cross-progression save, and a mod unsupported on the target platform can prevent correct loading. Version 2.5 marks modded saves; the publisher also says console achievements are disabled on modded save files. If a modded save will not open on the destination, compare the enabled mods and platform support instead of repeatedly uploading the same save.

Check regional editions
International copies can have regional SKU restrictions. If the source and destination were bought in different countries or storefront regions, consult CD PROJEKT RED’s regional-compatibility guidance and tell support the regions and editions involved. Do not promise universal cross-region transfer simply because the save appears in the cloud.
