Yes—Cyberpunk 2077 can now be installed on a Windows PC through Xbox Play Anywhere, provided you own the qualifying digital Xbox/Microsoft Store version. CD Projekt Red announced the support on October 22, 2026, with the free Edgerunners 2 Update: one eligible digital purchase gives access on Xbox consoles and Windows PC, and progress follows the same Xbox gamertag between platforms.
On Windows, install it from Microsoft Store > Library while signed in with the Microsoft account that bought the game. This does not automatically convert purchases from every other storefront into an Xbox Play Anywhere license, so verify the entitlement before buying another copy.
What do I need before installing Cyberpunk 2077 on PC?
You need four things: the qualifying digital Xbox/Microsoft Store entitlement, the Microsoft account that owns it, a compatible Windows PC, and a Microsoft Store installation that is authorized for that account.
- A qualifying digital purchase: Xbox Play Anywhere applies to participating digital games bought through a Microsoft Store or an eligible participating digital code. The current Xbox listing is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
- The owning Microsoft account: Use the account and Xbox gamertag associated with the purchase. Signing in with a different Windows or Xbox account can make the game appear unowned.
- A compatible PC: Microsoft’s rules require you to check the publisher’s minimum PC requirements before downloading. The Store can hide or block a listing when the device is incompatible.
- Store authorization: Windows must be able to install Microsoft Store apps for the signed-in account.
- One active session: You may install the entitlement on a reasonable number of compatible Windows devices and Xbox consoles, but only one device or console can play the same game at a time.
No disc or separate external installer is required for the Windows Store route.

Does one Xbox purchase include the Windows PC version?
One qualifying digital Xbox Play Anywhere purchase covers both Xbox consoles and Windows PC. It does not mean that every Cyberpunk 2077 purchase from every PC or console storefront is converted into an Xbox Play Anywhere license.

CD Projekt Red PR Manager Joao De Mello described the change this way: “A single digital purchase lets you play on both XBOX consoles and Windows PC, with your progress carrying over between platforms.” The announcement dates this behavior to October 22, 2026.
How do I install Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows with Xbox Play Anywhere?
Use Microsoft Store’s Library rather than searching for an unrelated PC installer. The following sequence is the supported path for the owning account.
- Confirm the product and purchase. Check your Microsoft Store order history or the Xbox listing and make sure the purchase is the qualifying digital Xbox Play Anywhere version. The current official listing is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
- Sign in to the owning account. In Windows, sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account used for the purchase. Confirm that the Xbox gamertag shown for that account is the one you use on your console. If you use multiple Microsoft accounts, sign out of the Store and select the account that actually owns the game.
- Open the Store Library. Select Start, open Microsoft Store, then select Library. Microsoft’s Store instructions say owned games appear there with a Download icon when they are available to the device.
- Select Download. Find Cyberpunk 2077 in the Library and select Download. Allow the Store to complete the installation and apply any updates it offers. Do not interrupt the process by switching to a different Microsoft account.
- Launch from the installed library. When the Store reports that installation is complete, launch the game from the installed Library entry. If an update is offered before launch, let it finish so the installed build matches the current Store entitlement.
- Use the same gamertag for progress. At the game’s sign-in prompt, use the Xbox gamertag associated with the purchase and your existing Xbox progress. Play Anywhere saves progress with that gamertag, allowing you to resume between Xbox and Windows.
If the game is absent from Library after step 2, stop before purchasing again. The account, region, compatibility, or order status usually needs to be corrected first.
How does progress transfer from Xbox to PC?
Progress carries between Xbox and Windows when you sign in with the same Xbox gamertag. The entitlement and saved progress are tied to that identity, not merely to the Windows computer on which you install the game.

- Use the same Microsoft account and Xbox gamertag on both platforms.
- Do not expect a different gamertag to display the existing progress just because it is on the same PC.
- Only one device or console may actively play the game at a time under the entitlement.
If the PC opens as though you have never played, first exit the game and verify the account shown in Microsoft Store and Xbox sign-in. A mismatch is more likely than a need to purchase a second copy.
What should I do if Cyberpunk 2077 is missing from Microsoft Store Library?
Work through Microsoft’s account and Store checks in order. A missing listing can indicate an ownership or compatibility problem, not a missing PC version.
- Verify the Microsoft account. Compare the signed-in Store account with the account that completed the purchase. Check the Xbox gamertag attached to it as well.
- Check regional availability. Store catalog availability can vary by region. Make sure Windows and Microsoft Store are using a region where the listing is offered.
- Check device compatibility. Microsoft may hide or block a listing when the PC does not meet the Store’s compatibility conditions. Review the publisher’s current minimum PC requirements before assuming the entitlement is defective.
- Restart after a Windows update. Microsoft identifies a required restart after an update as one reason a Store app may not install. Restart Windows, then open Library again.
- Reset Microsoft Store. Press Windows key + R, enter
wsreset.exe, and select OK. Wait for the reset process to finish, then reopen Microsoft Store and check Library. - Update the Store. Open Microsoft Store, select Library, and choose Get updates. After the Store updates, return to the Cyberpunk 2077 entry.
- Repair or reset the Store app. Use Windows’ app-management options to repair Microsoft Store first. If repair does not restore the Library entry, use the reset option, sign in again, and check Library.
- Reinstall from Library. If the game entry appears but the installation is damaged or stalled, remove the failed Store installation and select Download again from Library.
- Confirm the order completed. Open Microsoft Store order history and check that the Cyberpunk 2077 purchase is completed rather than pending, canceled, or associated with another account.
Microsoft specifically advises checking the account, device compatibility, and Store authorization before treating a hidden listing as a licensing failure. Do not buy another copy until those checks are complete.
Why is the Xbox Play Anywhere button or badge missing?
The badge can be absent when you are viewing the wrong product, the wrong account, or a listing that the current device cannot use. Xbox Play Anywhere is a designation for participating digital purchases; it is not a blanket conversion of every edition sold on every storefront.

The Store is signed into another account
Switch Microsoft Store to the account that completed the order. If the purchase was made by another household member, that owning account must be the one used to claim and install the Play Anywhere game.
The PC is incompatible
Microsoft can hide or block products that do not match the device’s compatibility checks. Review the publisher’s minimum PC requirements and Windows compatibility before troubleshooting the Store further.
The order is not complete
Use order history to confirm the transaction completed. A pending or failed order cannot produce an installable entitlement, even if a payment attempt appeared in another service.
Which Cyberpunk 2077 edition and Xbox generation caveats matter?
The official Xbox listing is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, while the Play Anywhere announcement describes the one-purchase Xbox-and-Windows behavior. Edition names matter because a listing that does not show the Play Anywhere designation should not be assumed to provide the same entitlement.
There is also a separate Xbox-console support boundary. The Xbox Store says the Xbox One version received its last patch on November 8, 2022. It also says an Xbox Series X|S console is required to download and apply later console patches and to buy or play Phantom Liberty on that console path.

That Xbox One statement is a console caveat, not a requirement for installing the Windows PC version. Do not interpret it as saying that a Series X|S console is required to download the Windows build. For PC installation, follow the Microsoft Store Library process and check the publisher’s PC requirements.
Can I install on more than one PC?
Microsoft’s Play Anywhere rules allow installation on any reasonable number of compatible Windows devices and Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles. The restriction is simultaneous use: only one device or console can play the same game at a time.
This lets you install on a desktop and a compatible laptop under the same owning account, then resume on the device you are using. It does not grant permission for two people to play concurrently from one entitlement.

You should not need a second purchase when the Xbox/Microsoft Store digital entitlement is correctly associated with your account. The native Windows installation comes through Microsoft Store Library; the Play Anywhere benefit exists specifically to provide PC access from the qualifying digital purchase.
