Yes—with an important qualification. The Creality Sermoon P1 covers an unusually broad range of sizes by combining blue-laser scanning for fine geometry with near-infrared (NIR) structured light for medium and large objects. Creality lists a scan-volume range from 5 × 5 × 5 mm to 4000 × 4000 × 4000 mm, so one device can handle tiny parts, furniture-sized subjects and large assemblies.

That does not mean every surface tracks perfectly or produces attractive color. Independent testing found strong geometric capture but disappointing color textures, and shiny objects could create duplicated mesh areas when tracking slipped. The P1 is therefore best understood as a portable professional geometry scanner with broad coverage, not a one-click solution for every material.

What does “almost any object” mean in practice?

The claim is mainly about the P1’s combination of size coverage and optical methods. Blue lasers resolve small features and edges, while NIR structured light captures larger subjects quickly. You can switch between those systems instead of buying separate scanners for small mechanical parts and large props or assemblies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Material is a more qualified story. Creality says black and metal surfaces can be scanned without applying spray, which reduces preparation. Reflective, glossy, texture-poor or moving surfaces can still challenge optical tracking. In a Creative Bloq test, a shiny gourd was recognized, but some passes produced duplicated sections of mesh that required rescanning or cleanup.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

“Almost any” should therefore mean that the P1 has a mode suitable for an unusually wide range of object sizes and many difficult finishes—not that every scan will be clean on the first pass.

How do the Sermoon P1’s blue-laser and NIR modes differ?

Blue laser is the precision-oriented system; NIR is the faster coverage-oriented system. The scanner offers three blue-laser line patterns and close- and long-range NIR structured light.

Capture option Best use Alignment options Published accuracy
Single-line blue laser Small parts, edges and fine details where maximum control matters Marker or global-marker alignment Up to 0.02 mm
Seven-line blue laser Detailed objects that need more coverage per pass than single-line mode Marker or global-marker alignment Up to 0.02 mm
22-line blue laser Broader coverage on medium-sized objects while retaining laser detail Marker or global-marker alignment Up to 0.02 mm
Close-range NIR structured light Fast capture of medium objects and surfaces where laser coverage is inefficient Geometry and texture alignment Up to 0.075 mm
Long-range NIR structured light Large objects and assemblies that need a wider working distance Geometry and texture alignment Up to 0.075 mm

The accuracy figures are Creality’s maximum specifications under stated test conditions. They are not a guarantee that every point in a real scan will meet that value, particularly when the object is glossy, featureless, poorly lit or moving.

How accurate is the Creality Sermoon P1?

Creality publishes up to 0.02 mm accuracy for blue-laser capture and up to 0.075 mm for NIR. It also lists volumetric accuracy of 0.02 mm + 0.06 mm/m for laser and 0.075 mm + 0.1 mm/m for NIR. The second term expresses how error can increase with scan distance, so a large object should not be judged by the same expectation as a small part.

For reverse engineering, the practical question is whether the scanner preserves the edges, holes, curves and datums your CAD workflow needs. Blue-laser mode is the appropriate starting point for tight tolerances and small details. NIR trades some precision for speed and field of view, making it more suitable for large forms, assemblies, props and archival geometry.

Use the glass calibration board regularly and keep the scanner at the working distance recommended by Creality. Calibration, stable movement, adequate overlap and correct alignment usually matter as much as the headline specification.

What size objects can the P1 scan?

Creality specifies a scan-volume range from 5 × 5 × 5 mm to 4000 × 4000 × 4000 mm. The lower end covers very small components and the upper end reaches four-metre-scale objects or assemblies. That range describes the supported capture envelope, not a promise that a four-metre object will have the same detail or accuracy as a five-millimetre part.

  • Choose a blue-laser pattern for small components, sharp edges, holes and fine relief.
  • Use close-range NIR when a medium object is too large for an efficient laser pass.
  • Use long-range NIR for large furniture, body panels, sculptures, equipment or assemblies.
  • For an object that spans modes, capture detailed regions with laser and broader surfaces with NIR, then align and merge the results in software.

Large scans also demand a plan for walking around the subject, maintaining overlap and managing the resulting data. The P1’s onboard storage helps in the field, but very large projects can still require a workstation for final editing and export.

Can the P1 scan black, shiny or metal objects without spray?

Creality says the P1 can scan black and metal surfaces without scanning spray. That is useful when coating would be unacceptable—for example, on a finished product, a museum object or a component that must remain clean.

Reflectivity still affects tracking. A shiny surface can return unstable or confusing light patterns, especially when it lacks visual features for alignment. Creative Bloq’s shiny-object test demonstrates the distinction: recognition was possible, but tracking occasionally generated duplicate mesh sections. Change the scan angle, slow your movement, add reflective markers where appropriate, or rescan the affected area rather than trusting a visibly broken mesh.

Dark, glossy or textureless areas also benefit from controlled lighting and deliberate overlap. If a temporary matte coating is acceptable, scanning spray remains a practical fallback even though it is not required for every black or metal object.

You can choose among three operating arrangements:

Arrangement How it works Creality-listed peak frame rate When it makes sense
Standalone Capture and process from the scanner’s own screen and hardware Up to 60 fps Field capture, quick checks and locations where carrying a computer is impractical
Wireless PC Stream the scanner to a computer over Wi-Fi 7 Up to 80 fps Live monitoring with freedom to move around the object
Wired PC Connect over USB-C for a direct data path Up to 100 fps Maximum listed throughput and demanding sessions near the workstation

Frame rate is a ceiling, not a guaranteed result for every mode or surface. Scan complexity, tracking quality and the computer’s processing load can reduce the effective rate.

What computer does Creality Scan require?

Standalone use avoids the PC requirement, but Creality’s recommended configuration is demanding for users who want live PC operation or heavier post-processing.

Platform Processor Graphics Memory
Windows 10 or 11 Intel Core i7 13th Gen or newer NVIDIA RTX 4060 or better with 8 GB VRAM At least 64 GB RAM
macOS 14 or newer Apple M3, M4 or M5 Integrated Apple graphics as supported by the listed silicon At least 32 GB RAM

These are Creality’s published recommendations, not a universal minimum for every operation. A weaker machine may open files or handle light projects, but it may not deliver the intended live preview, alignment or mesh-processing experience. Check the current Creality Scan documentation before buying a computer because supported operating systems and hardware can change.

How do you scan an object with the P1?

A successful scan is mostly a matter of preparation and alignment. The following workflow applies whether you work standalone or connect to a computer.

  1. Prepare the workspace. Stabilize the object on a surface you can walk around, remove moving parts where possible, and use even lighting. Keep cables, people and reflective clutter out of the tracking area.
  2. Calibrate the scanner. Place the supplied glass calibration board on a stable, clean surface and run the calibration procedure in Creality’s software or on-device workflow. Recalibrate after transport or whenever accuracy appears inconsistent.
  3. Choose the capture system. Select single-, seven- or 22-line blue laser for detailed geometry. Select close- or long-range NIR when coverage and speed matter more than the laser’s finer precision.
  4. Set alignment. Blue-laser modes support marker or global-marker alignment. Apply the supplied reflective dots to a removable target or the surrounding fixture when the object lacks enough natural features. NIR supports geometry and texture alignment, so choose the method that remains stable as you move around the subject.
  5. Start with a test pass. Scan a small region and inspect the live point cloud or mesh. Check that edges are single, holes are open and the surface is not drifting before committing to a full pass.
  6. Move smoothly and maintain overlap. Keep the scanner within its working distance, use a steady speed and revisit distinctive features from several angles. If tracking pauses, stop moving rather than sweeping blindly and creating a duplicate surface.
  7. Capture difficult regions again. Reflective or featureless patches may need a different angle, additional markers, better lighting or a temporary matte spray. Keep separate passes for areas that require a different exposure or mode.
  8. Process and export. Let the P1 generate the mesh on-device for a portable workflow, or transfer the project to Creality Scan on a wired or wireless PC for more comfortable inspection, cleanup and export.

What is included with the scanner?

Tom’s Hardware reported a hard carrying case, the scanner, power supply, USB-C cable, an extra battery, a glass calibration board and reflective marker dots in the package it reviewed. Those items support a complete first session, but they do not eliminate normal consumables or replacement needs.

  • Keep the calibration board clean and protected; scratches or contamination can affect calibration.
  • Order replacement 3300 mAh batteries if you need uninterrupted field sessions.
  • Have additional reflective markers available for large, smooth or featureless objects.
  • Use scanning spray only when a surface remains unstable and a temporary coating is acceptable.
  • Store the scanner in its case during transport to reduce the chance of calibration drift or lens contamination.

What are the P1’s main weaknesses?

The largest documented weakness is color texture. Tom’s Hardware found the geometry capture strong but described the color textures as disappointing. If your deliverable is a measurement-ready mesh, this may be acceptable; if it is a photorealistic asset, expect to spend time improving textures or using another imaging workflow.

Tracking is the other practical limitation. Shiny objects can be recognized, yet unstable reflections may produce duplicated geometry. The scanner’s broad size range also means that large projects involve more walking, overlap management and cleanup than a marketing number suggests.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Finally, the P1 is not a casual, low-cost gadget. Learning marker placement, alignment modes, calibration and mesh repair is part of obtaining reliable results. Users who want an automatic scan with no preparation are more likely to be frustrated than users who treat it as professional measurement equipment.

How much does the Creality Sermoon P1 cost?

Tom’s Hardware reported the following prices on 13 March 2026:

Listing Reported price Qualification
Direct from Creality $3,129 Bundle price reported at the time of review; subject to change
Amazon listing $2,799 Retail price reported at the time of review; stock and seller can change
Specification-table price $3,299 Figure shown in the reviewed specification table, not a guaranteed current selling price

At roughly three thousand dollars, the P1 makes financial sense when one device replaces separate small-part and large-object scanners, when field portability saves labor, or when geometry quality directly supports paid engineering, design, inspection, archiving or asset-production work. It is difficult to justify for occasional hobby use, especially if attractive color textures are a priority.

Who should buy the Sermoon P1?

Your priority Fit Reason
Reverse engineering and inspection Strong fit Blue-laser accuracy claims, marker alignment and detailed geometry support measurement-oriented work.
Product design and prototyping Strong fit The same scanner can move from small components to larger assemblies without changing hardware.
Props, game assets and cultural archiving Good fit with texture caveat Portable capture and broad size coverage help in the field, but color may need separate treatment.
Casual hobby scanning Weak fit The price, computer requirements and learning curve are high for infrequent use.
Photorealistic color capture Weak fit Independent testing identified color texture quality as the main weakness.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

How should you compare the P1 with another 3D scanner?

Compare the complete workflow rather than a single accuracy number. Ask whether the competing device covers your smallest and largest objects, which optical method it uses, and how it behaves on black, metallic, glossy and texture-poor surfaces.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Accuracy: distinguish single-point accuracy from volumetric accuracy and check the measuring conditions.
  • Coverage: compare minimum and maximum object size, working distance and field of view.
  • Tracking: check marker, global-marker, geometry and texture alignment options.
  • Speed: compare point rate or frame rate under the mode you will actually use, not only the headline maximum.
  • Workflow: determine whether capture, mesh generation and export can happen without a computer.
  • Portability: include weight, battery type, spare-battery availability, case and calibration accessories.
  • Software: verify operating-system versions, processor, GPU and RAM requirements before purchase.
  • Output quality: inspect geometry and color texture separately; a scanner can excel at one and disappoint at the other.
  • Total cost: include replacement batteries, markers, calibration equipment, spray and any workstation upgrade.

On those criteria, the P1’s differentiator is the combination of blue-laser detail, NIR large-object coverage and onboard processing. Its trade-offs are price, setup skill and weaker color results.

What should you know before ordering?

Confirm the current price and stock because the figures above are time-sensitive. Verify the latest Creality Scan requirements for your operating system, decide whether you need standalone or PC-linked capture, and budget time for calibration and cleanup. If your work is primarily geometric and spans very different object sizes, the P1’s hybrid design is unusually capable. If your priority is inexpensive occasional scanning or polished color textures straight from the device, choose with caution.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do the Sermoon P1 batteries last?

The published specifications identify two replaceable 3300 mAh batteries but do not state a runtime figure. Actual endurance will vary with capture mode, display use, wireless connection and processing, so a spare battery is more useful than planning around an unverified number.

Can the P1 scan transparent or translucent objects?

The cited Creality specifications establish performance for black and metal surfaces but do not provide a guarantee for transparent or translucent materials. Test a representative sample before relying on the scanner for glass, clear resin or similarly light-transmitting parts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does standalone scanning require an internet connection?

Creality describes capture, processing and export on the scanner, so a computer is not required for the core workflow. The published material here does not establish whether every software feature or update works offline; check the current software documentation if you will scan in a disconnected location.

What ongoing supplies might I need after buying the scanner?

Likely replenishment items include reflective marker dots, replacement 3300 mAh batteries and, for especially difficult surfaces, scanning spray. The calibration board and carrying case are documented as included accessories, so replacements are only needed if they are damaged or lost.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
