Change comfort and controls before visual quality. In Rafoli’s first-person, 1–4-player egg-mining game CRACK, turn on Reduce Camera Motion, choose a comfortable Field of View, set Invert Y if you normally use inverted look, and learn or rebind Pocket (R on keyboard, D-pad down on a controller). In co-op, set each player’s voice volume from the Players menu. Solo players should enable Offline Mode and consider Chill Mode before touching quality presets. Use the Vulkan launch option only when DX11 produces missing veins, a disappearing egg interior, or startup failures.
Which CRACK settings should you change first?
The most useful first-launch order is comfort, input, audio, then troubleshooting graphics. CRACK is built around first-person mining, scanning, hauling and driving, so camera movement, item swapping and proximity chat affect play more immediately than shadows or texture quality.

Valve’s Steam Deck verification says the default graphics perform well, and all functionality is available with the default controller configuration. That is why a quality-preset overhaul is not the recommended opening move.

Keep Reduce Camera Motion enabled
Version 1.0.53 enabled Reduce Camera Motion for everyone once, so a returning save may already have it on. Leave it enabled unless you deliberately want more head bob. If the option is off after an update or on a new installation, switch it back on before mining, climbing or driving.
Set Field of View by comfort, not by a target number
The new Field of View slider is useful when the first-person view feels narrow around the giant egg or while entering the golf cart. Widen it gradually until nearby tools and surfaces no longer feel crowded. Rafoli has not published a default FOV in degrees or a slider range, so there is no evidence-based “best” number to copy.
Use screen dither only after the camera feels right
Screen dither is an on/off image option added in v1.0.53. Toggle it after Reduce Camera Motion and FOV are comfortable: use the setting that makes the egg’s surfaces look less noisy to you. It is a presentation preference, not a fix for missing geometry.
When should you force Vulkan?
Do not lower every quality setting first when the egg looks incomplete. If calcite veins are absent, the interior disappears, or DX11 fails on startup, select the game’s Vulkan launch option in Steam and retry. Rafoli added this path in v1.0.43 for graphics cards with DX11 problems and separately fixed missing veins on some AMD and Intel hardware. The developer also acknowledged an AMD 9000-series incident caused by an attempted fix; use the current game build before judging performance.
What should Steam Deck players change?
Steam Deck was marked Verified in Valve’s test dated 21 October 2026. Valve reports that default graphics perform well, text is legible, Steam Deck controller icons appear, and all functionality works with the default layout. Keep those defaults unless you need a wider FOV or reduced camera movement; there is no published reason to begin with an aggressive preset change.
Which controller and input settings matter before the first swing?
CRACK has full controller support, including Xbox and PlayStation pads. Keyboard and mouse are also valid, while Steam Deck players can retain Valve’s supplied layout.
Set Invert Y before moving
In Settings → Controls, enable Invert Y if you use inverted vertical look in other first-person or mining games. Rafoli added the toggle in v1.0.31 on 26 October 2026. Changing it before the opening work order avoids relearning camera movement while you are also learning pickaxe and chisel timing.

Learn Pocket immediately
Pocket is the most important new bind for the early game. Press R on keyboard or D-pad down on a controller to put the held item away, swap to the second item, or take the stored item back out. The action is rebindable in Controls. Early layers ask you to alternate between pickaxe, chisel and bucket, so Pocket removes the one-item bottleneck mentioned in launch reviews.
Choose the device that matches your muscle memory
Xbox controllers and PlayStation controllers are officially supported; SteamDB lists DualShock and DualSense USB and wireless categories as well. A controller is not required, and the store does not publish a special mouse sensitivity, dead-zone or vibration value. No verified Steam Input community layout names were published, so use the game’s own Controls menu rather than copying an unverified layout.
Know the limits of the current control options
Some players called the golf cart difficult to steer, but no steering-sensitivity slider has been published. Park the cart fully in the upgrade bay before buying upgrades. Reports titled “Why double click?” and “Cant click Scanner Button” indicate interface frustrations, yet no official double-click sensitivity setting is documented; changing unrelated graphics options will not create one.
How should you set audio for solo and co-op?
Audio configuration is mostly about language, proximity chat and patch level rather than numerical sliders. Full spoken audio is available in English only, while the interface and subtitles support 16 languages.

Choose subtitles if you are not playing in English
The supported interface/subtitle languages are French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Traditional Chinese, Turkish and Ukrainian. Select your preferred text language on first launch and confirm subtitles before entering a shift; there is no equivalent full-voice track listed for those languages.
Balance teammates from the Players menu
VGTimes reports proximity voice chat, which means volume changes as players move around the lab and egg. In v1.0.53, Rafoli moved per-player voice volume sliders to the Players menu. Set each teammate before mining so a nearby speaker does not overpower tool sounds, or so a distant teammate is not lost in the workroom noise.
Update before troubleshooting missing sound effects
Version 1.0.53 fixed sound effects cutting out after long sessions and in solo play. If mining, scanner or vehicle effects vanish, update the game before repeatedly raising system volume. A launch review that reported disappearing effects later noted that the sound effects were fixed.

Use host tooltips before opening a public lobby
The host menu now explains each option when you hover over it. Read those tooltips before locking a public server, especially if your group has different expectations about timing, difficulty or session rules. There are no published default music or sound-effect percentages, so do not treat an invented numeric mix as an official recommendation.

For a solo player, these session options matter more than texture quality. Enable Offline Mode when you want to play without a connection; its pause menu actually pauses the game. That directly addresses launch complaints that a solo shift could not be stopped.
Chill Mode is the relaxed alternative. It removes bedtime, displays the shift summary instead of forcing a bedtime cycle, removes the sleep-aid fee, keeps shop puzzles at their easiest difficulty, lets you buy from shops without solving those puzzles, prevents bots from breaking down, halves egg agitation, removes productivity-audit penalties, and disables pipe-burst and scaffold-breaking events. Choose it before beginning a new shift if you want to learn tools without racing the clock.
Patch v1.0.43 also reduced the default sleep-aid fee from $20 to $5. That fee change applies to the normal mode; Chill Mode removes the fee entirely.

Valve’s Deck verification covers the handheld configuration, but no independent FPS benchmark or official performance table has been published. Treat the Vulkan advice as a renderer workaround for Windows/Linux DX11 faults, not as a universal performance boost; macOS uses Apple Silicon.
How do these settings support the first work order?
The opening job asks you to split and peel 30 Shell Chunks with a pickaxe and chisel. A white flash indicates that a section is ready to peel. Because the starting bucket holds 20 pieces, you will repeatedly move between tools and storage; Pocket is therefore useful from the first layer rather than an optional late-game convenience.

Early progression also involves selling shell material, unlocking the Intermediate Catalog after depositing $30, buying a shovel, filling two complete membrane buckets for the Vehicle Bay, and eventually unlocking the golf cart. Spread cuts around the egg because repeatedly hammering one spot raises agitation. Reduce Camera Motion and a comfortable FOV make those repeated first-person movements easier to read, while Chill Mode removes much of the pressure if you are learning the loop alone.
In co-op, proximity voice is most valuable when players are carrying, scanning or working on different sides of the egg. That is why the Players-menu voice sliders belong in the first-session checklist rather than in a late troubleshooting section.
What should you do if the game still looks or sounds wrong?
- Update the game. Launch-week fixes arrived in v1.0.31, v1.0.36, v1.0.43 and v1.0.53, with a v1.1.0 “We Hear You!” entry listed on 28–29 October 2026.
- Reset comfort settings. Confirm Reduce Camera Motion is on, choose a wider or narrower FOV based on comfort, and toggle screen dither only after the camera feels correct.
- Check the renderer. For missing veins, a disappearing interior or DX11 startup failure, select Vulkan in Steam’s launch options before lowering quality presets.
- Check the input path. Verify Invert Y and Pocket in Controls, then reconnect the controller or return Steam Deck to its default layout.
- Check session audio. In co-op, adjust each player in the Players menu. If effects disappear after a long session, confirm the build includes the v1.0.53 sound fix.
- Use Offline or Chill for solo diagnosis. Offline Mode supplies a real pause; Chill Mode removes timed-shift and event penalties while you identify an issue.
Which settings and performance numbers are not published?
Rafoli has not published a default FOV degree value or range, look-sensitivity number, controller dead-zone, vibration value, complete Settings-menu screenshot or independent FPS benchmark. There is also no verified list of Steam Input community layouts. Those absences mean guides should describe the available toggles and their purpose without inventing numeric targets.
