Yes—you can change many files to PDF directly on an iPhone, but the correct taps depend on where the file came from. Use Pages, Numbers, or Keynote for iWork documents; Safari for a webpage; Notes for a note; and Preview when you are starting with paper. In every case, save the resulting PDF to Files or share it, then open the saved copy to check that the pages and layout are correct. The workflows below follow Apple’s documented iPhone controls, while noting where labels or button locations can differ by iOS and app version.

Which iPhone method should I use to make a PDF?

Choose the route that matches the source of your content rather than looking for one universal “convert” button. These are the documented paths and their important limitations.

What you have Recommended route Important detail
Pages document Pages > More > Export > PDF The export is a separate copy; edits to it do not change the Pages original.
Webpage Safari > Share or Page Menu > Markup > Save File To The Share control can appear in different places depending on Safari’s tab layout.
Note Notes > Share > Markup > Done A multipage PDF or scanned-document attachment inside the note contributes only its first page to this exported PDF.
Paper pages Preview > Scan Documents > capture pages > Done Preview combines the captured pages into one PDF that you can save and edit.
Numbers spreadsheet or Keynote presentation Open the relevant app and use its export or share controls, then choose PDF Apple confirms PDF export, but the exact labels are not necessarily identical across the three iWork apps.

If the file was created in a third-party app, first open its Share, Export, or Print menu. The steps documented here apply to Apple’s apps and Safari; another app may use different labels or may not offer PDF output.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
  1. Open Pages and open the document you want to convert.
  2. Tap More in the toolbar.
  3. Tap Export, then select PDF.
4. Choose a destination such as Files, or select an app or contact from the sharing options.
  5. Give the file a meaningful name if the save sheet asks for one, and complete the save or share action.

Apple describes this as an export rather than an in-place format change: the PDF is a copy, so changing the PDF later does not modify the Pages document. Keep the Pages version when you expect to revise text, layout, or images. Apple’s current menu path is documented in its Pages for iPhone guide.

What should I check in a Pages PDF?

  • Open the saved PDF from the destination you selected, rather than checking only the share preview.
  • Scroll through every page to confirm that headings, tables, images, and page breaks appear as expected.
  • Check the filename and folder so you can locate the copy later without reopening Pages.
  • If you find an error, correct the Pages original and export again instead of trying to edit the already-exported copy.

How do I save a Safari webpage as a PDF on iPhone?

Safari uses Markup to turn the currently open webpage into a PDF, after which you save it through the iOS file sheet. Depending on your tab layout, start with either the Share button or the Page Menu.

  1. Open the page in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button. In some Safari layouts, tap the Page Menu first and then tap Share.
  3. Choose Markup from the sharing actions.
  4. Review the generated page preview. Add annotations only if you need them.
  5. Tap the share control in Markup, then choose Save File To.
  6. Enter or edit the filename, choose a folder in Files, and tap Save.

Apple’s instructions for this workflow are in Safari’s “Annotate and save a webpage as a PDF” guide. The wording and position of the initial button can change with Safari’s tab layout, so do not assume that a Share icon is always in the same corner.

How can I make sure the webpage PDF is the page I intended?

  • Close banners, menus, or expanded sections that you do not want included before opening Markup.
  • After saving, open the PDF in Files and inspect the first and last pages, since a long page may span several sheets.
  • Use a descriptive filename that includes the site or subject and date when you are saving multiple references.
  • If the preview is not what you expected, return to Safari, adjust the page, and create a new export rather than overwriting the only copy.

How do I turn an iPhone note into a PDF?

Notes exports the open note through Markup. You can annotate before saving, but there is a significant attachment limitation: a multipage PDF or scanned document embedded in the note contributes only its first page to the exported PDF.

  1. Open Notes and select the note.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tap Markup.
  4. Review the note in the Markup view and add any needed handwriting or other annotations.
  5. Tap Done to save the PDF, then select the destination or sharing option offered by iOS.

The procedure is described in Apple’s “Export or print notes on iPhone” guide. The exported PDF represents the note as handled by Notes; it is not a general-purpose way to merge every page of an attachment into a new document.

Why is only one attachment page in my Notes PDF?

When a note contains a multipage PDF or a scanned-document attachment, Notes’ export includes only the first page of that attachment. This is a documented behavior, not necessarily a failed save. If every page matters, open the original attachment itself in an app that can save or export it, rather than exporting the surrounding note.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

How should I preserve the note and the PDF separately?

  • Leave the original note in Notes so its editable text and attachments remain available.
  • Save the exported PDF with a different filename or in a clearly labeled folder.
  • Open the resulting PDF and confirm that the note text and any intended annotations are present.
  • Do not delete the note until you have checked the PDF and decided that the PDF contains everything you need.

How do I scan paper pages into one PDF on iPhone?

Use Preview’s document scanner when your source is paper. Capture each page in sequence, finish the scan, and Preview combines the images into a single PDF that can be saved and edited; no separate scanner or printer is required for this documented workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Preview on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Scan Documents.
  3. Position the first paper page in view and capture it using the on-screen control.
  4. Continue capturing each additional page in the order you want it to appear.
  5. When all pages are captured, tap Done.
  6. Save the combined PDF or use the available sharing and editing controls.

Apple’s Preview for iPhone guide documents scanning and combining pages. Its page labels are associated with iOS 27, so an iPhone on another iOS release may display a different arrangement of controls.

Tips for a clean multi-page scan

  • Place one page at a time on a contrasting, flat surface and keep the phone steady while it captures.
  • Review the page order before finishing; a wrongly ordered scan is easier to redo immediately than after sharing.
  • Check every page for clipped edges or unreadable text in the completed PDF.
  • Save the final file to a known Files folder before closing Preview.

Can Numbers and Keynote files be exported as PDF on iPhone?

Yes. Apple confirms that Pages, Numbers, and Keynote can convert their files to PDF on iPhone, with options to save the converted file to Files or share it. The apps do not necessarily use identical menu names, so follow the export or share control shown in the app you are using.

  1. Open the relevant Numbers spreadsheet or Keynote presentation.
  2. Open that app’s document menu, usually labeled with a More, Share, or similar control.
  3. Choose the option that exports or sends a copy of the file.
  4. Select PDF as the output format when it appears.
  5. Choose Save to Files or another sharing destination, then finish the save.

Apple’s cross-app support article, “Convert Pages, Numbers or Keynote files to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and more,” confirms the available PDF conversion and destination choices. Because the exact controls can vary by app version, use the visible command rather than relying on a fixed tap count.

What is different about spreadsheet and presentation exports?

A spreadsheet or presentation can have a layout that differs from its editing view when represented as pages. After export, open the PDF and check that columns, charts, slide content, and page boundaries are readable. Keep the original Numbers or Keynote file for future edits and treat the PDF as the distribution copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if the file is in Files or another app?

First identify the app that owns the file. If it is a Pages, Numbers, or Keynote document, open it in the corresponding Apple app and use that app’s PDF export. If it is a webpage, use Safari’s Markup route; if it is paper, scan it in Preview.

For a format or app not covered by Apple’s documented workflows above, open the file’s Share, Export, or Print menu and look for PDF. Do not assume that sending a file through the Share sheet automatically converts it: sharing and format conversion are separate actions, and the receiving app may simply get the original format.

How do I avoid exporting the wrong file?

  • Open the file and verify its title or contents before starting the export.
  • Use a new filename for the PDF so the original extension is not confused with the converted copy.
  • Choose a stable Files folder rather than leaving the only copy in a transient share destination.
  • Reopen the saved PDF and compare its page count and visible content with the source.

Where should I save the converted PDF?

Save to Files when you need a reusable copy, or choose a sharing destination when someone else needs it immediately. A Files folder gives you a predictable place to reopen, rename, move, or share the PDF later.

Suggested naming and folder practice

  • Use a name that identifies the document, such as Project-plan-October-2026.pdf.
  • Keep related PDFs in one folder so the Files search and browsing views remain manageable.
  • Retain the editable source beside the PDF when revisions are likely.
  • After saving, tap the PDF in Files and verify that it opens instead of assuming the save completed.

How can I verify that an iPhone PDF is complete?

A successful export is not necessarily a complete export. Verification is especially important for Notes attachments, long webpages, scans, and layouts with tables or slides.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the PDF from the destination you selected.
  2. Check the number and order of pages against what you intended to convert.
  3. Inspect pages with images, tables, handwriting, or dense text at a readable zoom.
  4. Confirm that the filename and location are correct.
  5. Use the Share control from the opened PDF if you need to send this verified copy.

If the PDF is missing content, return to the source app and use the method that matches the source type. For example, export an attached multipage document from its own viewer instead of through Notes, or rescan a paper page that was clipped.

What commonly goes wrong when converting a file to PDF on iPhone?

The PDF option is not visible

You may be in a generic Share sheet rather than the app’s export flow. Reopen the source in Pages, Numbers, or Keynote and look for Export or a document-specific share command; for Safari, open Markup first.

Safari has no Share button where expected

Safari’s tab layout affects the starting control. Tap the Page Menu if that is what your layout shows, then choose Share and continue to Markup.

The Notes PDF is missing pages

Check whether the note contains a multipage PDF or scanned-document attachment. Notes exports only the first page of that attachment, so open the attachment itself and save or export it separately.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A scan has the wrong order or clipped edges

Review the captured pages before tapping Done. If a page is out of order or incomplete, capture it again and finish only after the sequence and edges look correct.

The saved file cannot be found

Return to the destination you selected in the save sheet, such as a specific Files folder. If you shared directly to another app, check that app’s received or saved items; then create a Files copy if you need a permanent local location.

The PDF looks different from the editable document

PDF is a page-oriented copy, so a spreadsheet, presentation, or document may paginate differently from its editing view. Open the exported copy, identify the affected page, adjust the original layout, and export again.

How do I choose between exporting and scanning?

Export when the source is already digital; scan when the source is physical paper. Exporting preserves the source app’s document representation, while Preview’s scanner creates a PDF from captured page images and combines those pages for you.

Starting point Use Result
Editable Pages, Numbers, or Keynote file That app’s export to PDF A PDF copy plus the unchanged editable original
Web content open in Safari Safari Share or Page Menu > Markup A PDF of the webpage view you send to Save File To
Text and attachments in Notes Notes Share > Markup A PDF of the note; only the first page of an embedded multipage PDF or scan is included
Paper pages Preview Scan Documents A combined, savable PDF made from the captured pages

What should I do before sending the PDF?

Open the saved copy, not just the source, and check it as the recipient will see it. Confirm the intended pages are present, the order is correct, and no sensitive note, browser element, or extra scan was included. If anything is wrong, fix the source or recapture the page and create a replacement PDF before sharing.

Which iOS version and app labels should I expect?

Apple’s support pages identify different guide versions: the Notes instructions are labeled iOS 26, while the Preview and Safari pages are labeled iOS 27. Your iPhone may show a different button arrangement or wording, especially in Safari, even though the underlying Share, Markup, Export, and Save actions are similar.

When a label differs, look for the function rather than an exact visual match: document-specific Export in iWork, Markup after sharing a webpage or note, and Scan Documents in Preview. Avoid applying a Pages sequence to a third-party file unless that app presents the same command.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a PDF from a file without installing a separate converter app?

The documented Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Safari, Notes, and Preview workflows are built into Apple’s iPhone apps. Whether another file type can be converted without an additional app depends on the app that opens that file and the commands it provides.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does exporting a Pages file remove the editable version?

No. Pages exports a separate PDF copy, so the original document remains available for editing. Keep both files if you expect revisions.

How do I include every page of a document attached to a note?

Do not rely on the note export for this case: Apple documents that only the first page of a multipage PDF or scanned-document attachment is included. Open the attachment itself and save or share its complete PDF separately.

Why does Safari show different buttons on my iPhone?

Safari’s tab layout changes where the Page Menu and Share controls appear. Start with whichever of those controls your layout displays, then choose Share, Markup, and Save File To.
