For Windows users who want the clearest current independent evidence, Bitdefender is the better-supported choice: AV-TEST rated Bitdefender Total Security 27.0 at 6/6/6 in its August 2026 Windows test. Comodo offers a free antivirus tier and vendor-described controls such as Default Deny and Auto Sandbox, but no comparable recent Comodo result appears in the lab sources cited here. That gap is not proof that Comodo performs poorly.
The practical choice comes down to more than detection claims: check your operating systems, device count, desired extras, and the actual first-year and renewal costs. The products are not an exact tier-for-tier match: the Comodo source describes its free antivirus offer, while the Bitdefender lab result is for Total Security.
What do the current independent test results show?
The most specific recent result available for this comparison is AV-TEST’s Windows test from August 2026. It awarded Bitdefender Total Security 27.0 a score of 6/6/6 for protection, performance, and usability. AV-TEST scores each category out of 6, for a maximum of 18 points; the product’s listed scores total 18. AV-TEST says products need at least 17.5 points for its Top Product award. See AV-TEST’s August 2026 Windows results and scoring guidance.
AV-Comparatives also includes Bitdefender among the top-rated products on its March 2026 Consumer Malware Protection Test. In its July/August 2026 Consumer Real-World Protection Test factsheet, the organization says it tested 19 consumer solutions using 200 malicious URLs; Bitdefender Total Security was among them. The factsheet does not list Comodo.

These are results for Bitdefender in separate tests, not a head-to-head trial against Comodo. The recent lab sources cited here do not establish a comparable Comodo result. That limits how confidently the products can be ranked by current lab evidence; it does not demonstrate that Comodo is less effective. Older comparison coverage, including Comparitech’s Comodo vs Bitdefender: Which Antivirus Wins?, discusses tests from 2019–2021 and should be treated as historical rather than current performance evidence.
How do Comodo and Bitdefender differ?
| Decision area | Comodo | Bitdefender |

Comodo’s features are descriptions from the vendor, not independent findings about protection or performance. Its official antivirus page lists Windows 10, 8, and 7, but that published list alone does not establish support for the latest Windows release or every currently available build.

Which product fits your needs?
Choose Comodo if its free Windows offer and controls suit you
Comodo may be worth considering if you want a free Windows antivirus product and are interested in its vendor-described Default Deny and Auto Sandbox approach to handling unknown applications. Treat those as feature descriptions, not proof of superior or equivalent protection. Before installing, confirm that the current download supports your exact version of Windows.
Choose Bitdefender if recent lab evidence or broader device coverage matters
Bitdefender is the clearer fit if you prioritize recent independent test results, need coverage across desktop and mobile platforms, or want an individual or family plan with a specified device allowance. The strongest specific evidence cited here is for Total Security 27.0 in AV-TEST’s August 2026 test; it should not be generalized to every Bitdefender product or version.

What do Bitdefender’s listed plans cost, and what does the VPN include?
Bitdefender’s current US product comparison page lists the following first-year prices. They are not guaranteed checkout totals or renewal prices; applicable sales tax may also affect the amount.
| Plan listed on the US page | Coverage stated | Listed first-year price |
|---|---|---|
| Total Security Individual | 5 devices | USD 59.99 |
| Premium Security Individual | Device count not stated in the cited comparison | USD 79.99 |
| Antivirus Plus | 3 devices | USD 29.99 |
These are vendor-listed US comparison prices, not a promise of the price in another market or at checkout. Check the current Bitdefender Total Security plan page for your region, term, taxes, and renewal price. The page states that Total Security includes up to 200 MB of VPN traffic per day, while Premium Security is described as including unlimited VPN traffic. The 200 MB daily allowance is a cap, not unlimited browsing; consider how much VPN traffic you actually use when comparing plans.

How should you make the final choice?
- Match the software to your devices. Confirm current operating-system compatibility and count the devices that need protection. Comodo’s published Windows list should be checked against the requirements for the current download; Bitdefender’s Total Security page describes Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS coverage.
- Decide how much weight to give lab evidence. Bitdefender has recent results in the cited AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives sources. The absence of a matching Comodo result means the comparison is incomplete, not that Comodo has failed a test.
- Identify the features you will use. Compare Comodo’s vendor-described sandbox and prevention controls with the features offered by the specific Bitdefender plan you are considering.
- Compare the complete cost. Verify your market, checkout total, subscription term, and renewal price rather than assuming a listed first-year figure will recur.
- Check whether the VPN allowance meets your needs. Total Security’s included traffic is capped at 200 MB per day; the vendor describes Premium Security as including unlimited VPN traffic.
