Clover’s public materials describe Time Clock and Timesheets, but do not establish a separate feature named “time codes.” The right fix depends on which part of the process is failing.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Clover describes its timekeeping tools as Time Clock and Timesheets, powered by Homebase and embedded in Clover. Staff clock in and out on a Clover device; the service also tracks breaks and overtime. “Time codes not working” may be a shorthand for several different issues, not the name of a single Clover setting.

These checks address different stages; editing a timesheet will not fix a rejected PIN, and changing a credential will not correct a recorded punch.
Fix a rejected employee PIN or passcode
- Open the Employees app and check the employee record. Confirm you are working with the intended employee and that the profile is active for the relevant setup.
- Set or change the credential using the guide for your device. Clover’s Mini installation guide documents setting or changing an employee PIN in the Employees app. The Flex installation guide describes passcode setup for that model. Menus and labels can differ, so do not assume Mini and Flex steps are interchangeable.
- Have the employee try again on the Clover device. If the credential is still rejected, check that the employee is using the updated credential and contact account-specific Clover Help rather than repeatedly changing unrelated timekeeping or payroll settings.
Clover’s guides describe PINs or passcodes as part of employee identification and permission levels. Use the model-specific instructions rather than assuming every Clover device has the same menu or credential label.

If the employee cannot clock in or out
When a worker can access the device but cannot see or use clock-in/out, review the employee profile and access first. Clover says an employee profile brings together POS access, time-in/out records, performance, and permissions. Confirm that the worker is active in the relevant setup and has the access needed for the action.
The public Clover materials do not identify one universal permission switch that resolves every clock-in failure. If the profile appears correct but the timekeeping action is still unavailable, use the merchant’s logged-in Clover Help to verify which features and access rules apply to that account.

Correct a missing or inaccurate punch in Timesheets
If the employee did clock in or out but the record is missing or wrong, review the timecard in Timesheets rather than resetting the employee’s PIN. Clover says managers can review clock-ins, clock-outs, missed breaks, and overtime, and correct timesheet mistakes before payroll. Approved hours become payroll-ready.
- Open Timesheets in the merchant’s Clover setup.
- Review the employee’s timecard for the affected date, including clock-in/out entries and breaks.
- Correct the mistake using the account’s available timecard controls, then follow the approval process for that setup.
- Check the approved hours before relying on them for payroll.
If approved hours are not reaching payroll
First establish whether the hours are missing from the timecard or whether they are present but have not moved into payroll. Clover’s documented Timesheets workflow is for managers to review and correct records before approving hours for payroll readiness. If the hours are approved but the payroll system still does not show them, the applicable setting may belong to the merchant’s payroll provider rather than Clover Time Clock. Ask the payroll provider or Clover support to identify the handoff and any account-specific configuration.

Check for a Clover service issue
Clover’s public status page showed North America Clover services operational when checked on October 4, 2026. Status can change, and an operational listing cannot rule out a local network, device, employee-profile, or account-specific problem. Use the page as a quick service check, not as a diagnosis of an individual merchant’s setup.
Get help with the merchant’s specific setup
Clover directs existing-system users to log in to Clover Help for information tailored to their system and features. Help is also available on a Clover device and in the Clover Go app. Have the device model, employee profile, affected date, and exact symptom ready; distinguish a rejected credential from an unavailable clock-in action or an incorrect timecard. This helps support investigate the right part of the workflow.

What “time codes” may mean in your account
If “time code” is a label you can actually see in your merchant interface, or refers to an earnings code in a separate payroll system, the public Clover materials do not establish what that particular code controls. Ask account-specific Clover Help or the payroll provider to identify the field before changing it. Clover reports that small-business employees logged 1.2 billion hours on Homebase in 2025; this is Clover’s vendor-reported usage figure, not an independently verified performance result.
