Cloud gaming costs depend on whether you’re paying for a library of games or for streamed hardware to play games you already own. Xbox Game Pass combines cloud play with a changing game catalog, GeForce NOW streams supported games from linked or installable PC libraries, and Amazon Luna Standard is included with Prime in eligible markets. Each can still involve extra charges—for playtime, games, storage, a higher tier, or compatible hardware. This guide reflects official information available on October 25, 2026; prices, features, and regional availability can change.
How much does cloud gaming cost?
There is no single cloud-gaming subscription price because the major services bundle different things. Xbox Game Pass charges for a tier that includes a game catalog and a monthly cloud-play allowance. GeForce NOW charges for streaming access and performance, while you generally supply the game through a supported library or an eligible install. Amazon Luna Standard comes with Prime; Luna Premium is a separate option that expands the catalog.
The table summarizes the cost details established by the services’ official materials. Prices are monthly where a monthly price is stated. They are not a complete quote for every country: Microsoft says regional prices may vary, and availability and terms can differ by market.
| Service or tier | Published price or inclusion | Cloud-play allowance | What the subscription mainly provides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Game Pass Essential | Starting at $10/month in Xbox’s December 19, 2025 guide | 5 hours/month listed on Xbox’s cloud gaming page | More than 50 games, with cloud access subject to plan and regional terms |
| Xbox Game Pass Premium | $14.99/month in Xbox’s December 19, 2025 guide | 10 hours/month listed on Xbox’s cloud gaming page | 200+ games, with cloud access subject to plan and regional terms |
| Xbox Game Pass Ultimate | $22.99/month announced by Microsoft on April 21, 2026; prices may vary by region | 15 hours/month listed on Xbox’s cloud gaming page | 400+ games in Xbox’s December 2025 guide, plus benefits such as day-one releases, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics, and online console multiplayer |
| GeForce NOW Performance or Ultimate | Subscription price varies by market and is not stated in the cited current NVIDIA FAQ | 100 hours/month, with up to 15 hours of unused time rolling over | Higher-performance streaming for supported games, with optional extra playtime and storage |
| Amazon Luna Standard | Included with Prime in eligible markets | A monthly hour allowance is not stated in Amazon’s cited description | A curated cloud-streaming library, GameNight games, eligible PC games to claim and keep, and streaming of purchased games |
| Amazon Luna Premium | Separate Premium option for Prime and non-Prime members; price varies by market and is not stated in Amazon’s cited description | A monthly hour allowance is not stated in Amazon’s cited description | Everything in Standard plus a larger game library |
Xbox’s December 2025 guide and April 2026 price announcement describe different plan details and dates. Treat the older Essential and Premium prices as figures from that guide, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. Microsoft’s April announcement reduced Ultimate to $22.99/month and PC Game Pass to $13.99/month, with regional variation; the announcement does not make PC Game Pass’s cloud access equivalent to an Xbox cloud-enabled tier.

What does each cloud-gaming subscription actually include?
The key difference is who supplies the games. Game Pass and Luna offer catalogs as part of access, while GeForce NOW is primarily a way to stream supported PC games rather than a purchase of a game catalog.
Xbox Game Pass: a catalog with cloud access
Game Pass combines a tier-specific selection of games with access to play in the cloud where the title, plan, device, and region are supported. The catalog is not the same as owning every game in it. Xbox also says cloud-playable games that are not included with Game Pass are sold separately, so a subscription does not automatically cover every title available to stream.
Microsoft’s September 3, 2026 announcement says changes to how cloud gaming is included with Game Pass begin in November. It identifies 5 hours/month for Essential, 10 for Premium, and 15 for Ultimate, with additional cloud time to be purchasable through the Xbox Store. Xbox’s cloud gaming page also lists those monthly figures. Because the announcement dates the change for November and this article is current to October 25, check the plan page and local terms when subscribing, especially if you expect to play beyond the included allowance.

GeForce NOW: streamed gaming hardware, not a bundled game library
GeForce NOW’s Free, Performance, and Ultimate memberships provide different access and performance benefits; day passes are also available in some markets. NVIDIA describes premium benefits such as higher resolution and frame rates, ray tracing, DLSS, Reflex, faster access, saved graphics settings, supported mods, and Install-to-Play for thousands of opted-in Steam games. The exact result still depends on the game, device, membership, and local service availability.

Before paying, check both that your game is supported and that it is available through a library or installation route GeForce NOW supports. A title in a Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Xbox, or other supported library is not automatically playable: NVIDIA’s supported-game listing and the specific storefront or account connection matter. A GeForce NOW membership should not be treated as a license to buy games or as proof that every game you own can be streamed.
Amazon Luna: Prime-included Standard and a larger Premium catalog
Amazon describes Luna Standard as included with Prime. Its benefits include a curated cloud-streaming library, GameNight family and party games, PC games that can be claimed and kept, and the ability to stream purchased games. Luna Premium adds a larger game library and is available to both Prime and non-Prime members.
Prime membership and Luna Premium are therefore different cost questions: Standard is bundled with Prime where offered, while Premium is a separate tier. Amazon’s description does not establish one worldwide price or catalog size, so check the local Luna page for what is available to your account and market.
What costs extra after you subscribe?
The subscription is only one part of the total. Depending on the service and how you play, you may pay for games, time beyond the included allowance, storage, or hardware.

- Games outside a catalog: A game not included in Game Pass may need to be purchased separately. With GeForce NOW, verify ownership or an eligible install route and supported status before subscribing; the membership itself is not the game purchase.
- Xbox cloud time beyond the included hours: Microsoft says additional playtime will be purchasable through the Xbox Store when the announced November 2026 change begins. The announcement says prices and options vary by market but does not state an overage price.
- GeForce NOW hours beyond the premium allowance: Performance and Ultimate include 100 hours/month with up to 15 hours rollover. After reaching the limit, NVIDIA says members can buy additional premium playtime or continue with a free-user experience until the limit resets. Its cited FAQ does not give the price of extra premium hours.
- GeForce NOW persistent storage: NVIDIA lists monthly add-ons of $2.99 for 200GB, $4.99 for 500GB, and $7.99 for 1TB. These are storage charges in addition to the membership, not a game-purchase fee.
- A higher Luna tier: Prime includes Standard, not the larger Premium catalog. A Premium upgrade may be an additional subscription expense, depending on local terms.
- Compatible hardware and internet: Xbox says cloud play requires a supported device, an internet connection, and a compatible controller. The controller connects by Bluetooth or USB; the device and controller may be separate purchases.
How do cloud hours and rollover work?
Monthly hour limits cap the time a service includes at its stated tier; they do not describe the size of its game catalog or the streaming quality. The rules differ enough that you should not compare the numbers without their qualifications.
Xbox: tier-specific monthly allowances
Xbox lists 5, 10, and 15 cloud hours/month for Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, respectively. Microsoft’s September announcement says the new inclusion model begins in November 2026 and that more playtime can be bought through the Xbox Store, with pricing and options varying by market. The announcement does not state the price of additional hours or specify the detailed reset mechanics. If your planned use is close to the limit, confirm the current terms in your region rather than assuming unused time rolls over.
GeForce NOW: 100 hours and limited rollover
NVIDIA says Performance and Ultimate include 100 monthly play hours, with up to 15 hours of unused time rolling over. Once the allowance is reached, you can purchase extra premium time or use the free-user experience until reset. This allowance is not the same as a guaranteed 100 hours of a particular game: queue access, supported titles, membership features, and your own play schedule still shape the experience.

Amazon’s cited description explains which Luna features are included with Standard and Premium but does not state a monthly cloud-hour quota. Do not infer an unlimited-hours promise from that omission; check the current market-specific terms if a usage cap would affect your decision.

What device, controller, and internet connection do you need?
Xbox’s cloud gaming guidance requires a supported device and compatible controller, connected by Bluetooth or USB, as well as an internet connection. Microsoft specifies a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps and recommends 20 Mbps for best quality on some devices. These are Microsoft’s stated requirements; they do not guarantee the same picture or responsiveness in every home network.
Compatibility is service-specific. A device that can run one cloud-gaming app does not necessarily support another, and catalog availability can also vary by country, platform, or title. Check the service’s device list and local availability before buying hardware for cloud play. The cited service descriptions do not provide comparable resolution or frame-rate ceilings across Xbox, GeForce NOW, and Luna, so a precise cross-service specification comparison is not established here.
Which service is the better value for your situation?
Start with your games and likely hours of use, then check the hardware and local terms. A low monthly subscription can become poor value if your game is outside its catalog, your allowance is too small, or you need an additional paid tier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Game Pass cloud gaming with PC Game Pass?
Microsoft’s April 21, 2026 announcement states a PC Game Pass price, but the cited information does not establish PC Game Pass as a substitute for an Xbox Game Pass tier that includes cloud play. Check the current benefits for the exact plan and region before subscribing for cloud access.
Can I play cloud games on a television?
Only if the particular service supports the TV or a connected streaming device in your region. For example, Amazon identifies compatible Fire TV devices as a possible way to play Luna, but device compatibility and the available Luna catalog should be checked locally.

No. Meeting a service’s stated download-speed guidance does not guarantee a particular experience, because supported devices and network conditions also matter. The Xbox speed figures are requirements and recommendations, not a promise of identical quality for every connection.
