The latest 2026 figures show a cloud market growing fastest around artificial-intelligence infrastructure, but there is no single number called “the cloud market.” Gartner’s October 21, 2026 forecast puts worldwide infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) spending at $292 billion in 2026 and $367 billion in 2027. Separately, Synergy Research Group measured $143.4 billion in worldwide cloud-infrastructure-services revenue in the second quarter of 2026, up 43% year over year. Those figures use different definitions and cannot be added together.

This is a sourced 2026 market-and-spending roundup rather than a fabricated list of 37 unrelated percentages. The available dated evidence is strongest for IaaS forecasts, AI-optimized infrastructure and provider shares. Adoption, security, emissions, migration-success and regional statistics are not established by the sources available here, so they are identified as evidence gaps instead of being guessed.

What do 2026 cloud computing statistics actually measure?

Cloud statistics answer different questions depending on what is counted. Before comparing a number, check whether it describes end-user spending, IaaS spending, revenue recognized by infrastructure providers, a forecast or an already reported quarter.

Three market lenses

  • Public-cloud end-user spending: Money organizations spend on public-cloud services across categories such as software, platform and infrastructure. Gartner’s older 2025 figure belongs to this broad category.
  • Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): Spending on rented compute, storage and networking infrastructure. Gartner’s 2026 and 2027 figures are forecasts for this narrower category.
  • Cloud infrastructure services revenue: Synergy Research Group’s quarterly market measure. It covers a broader infrastructure-services market in which public IaaS and platform as a service (PaaS) are the largest component.

A forecast is an estimate made before the period closes; a quarterly revenue figure is a reported market estimate for a period that has ended. Treating either as a universal cloud-market total creates a misleading comparison.

How much is the cloud computing market worth in 2026?

There are two defensible answers in the current evidence: Gartner forecasts $292 billion in worldwide IaaS spending for 2026, while Synergy reports $143.4 billion in cloud infrastructure services revenue for Q2 2026 alone. The first is an annual forecast for one service category; the second is one quarter of a different market definition.

Measure Value Period and status Source and scope
Worldwide IT spending $6.391 trillion 2026 forecast Gartner, October 21, 2026; all IT categories, not cloud only
Worldwide IT spending $7.352 trillion 2027 forecast Gartner, October 21, 2026; all IT categories
Worldwide IaaS spending $292 billion 2026 forecast Gartner, October 21, 2026
Worldwide IaaS spending $367 billion 2027 forecast Gartner, October 21, 2026
Worldwide public-cloud end-user spending $723.4 billion 2025 forecast, issued in 2024 Gartner; historical forecast from $595.7 billion in 2024
Cloud infrastructure services revenue $143.4 billion Q2 2026 reported market estimate Synergy Research Group; worldwide, quarterly

The $6.391 trillion and $7.352 trillion totals include hardware, software, services and other IT categories. They should not be presented as cloud-market size. Likewise, the $723.4 billion public-cloud figure is a historical 2025 forecast, not a measurement of 2026 spending.

How fast is AI-optimized cloud infrastructure growing?

AI infrastructure is the fastest-growing quantified segment in the evidence. Gartner’s August 2026 forecast estimates $42.276 billion in AI-optimized IaaS spending during 2026, a 96.4% year-over-year increase, followed by $66.143 billion in 2027.

AI-optimized IaaS statistic Value Qualification
AI-optimized IaaS spending $42.276 billion Gartner forecast for worldwide 2026 spending
Growth in AI-optimized IaaS 96.4% Gartner forecast year-over-year growth for 2026
AI-optimized IaaS spending $66.143 billion Gartner forecast for worldwide 2027 spending
Inference spending $23.3 billion Gartner forecast for 2026
Training spending $19 billion Gartner forecast for 2026

Gartner forecasts inference spending to exceed training spending in 2026. That is a projection about the mix of future demand, not a final audited result. Training creates models; inference runs those models for users and business workflows, so the forecast signals a shift from experimentation toward ongoing production use.

“This growth is driven by continued demand for infrastructure to support large language model (LLM) training and the rapid operationalization of AI across enterprise applications and workflows.”

Which cloud provider has the largest market share?

In Synergy Research Group’s worldwide Q2 2026 cloud infrastructure-services estimate, AWS had the largest share at 28%, followed by Microsoft at 20% and Google at 15%.

Provider Worldwide share Basis
AWS 28% Synergy estimate, Q2 2026 cloud infrastructure services
Microsoft 20% Synergy estimate, Q2 2026 cloud infrastructure services
Google 15% Synergy estimate, Q2 2026 cloud infrastructure services

The three leaders therefore represented 63% when these rounded shares are added, while Synergy separately reported that the three largest providers held 67% of its public-cloud subset. The two percentages use different market bases, so the 67% figure must not be substituted for the provider shares in the table.

Synergy reported 43% year-over-year growth for the broader cloud infrastructure-services market in Q2 2026 and 47% growth for public IaaS and PaaS, which account for most of that broader market. Share is a measure of market position, not a ranking of reliability, security, price or technical quality.

“The accelerated cloud growth rate over the last three years, and in particular over the last four quarters, has been quite remarkable.”

Did Gartner’s 2026 cloud forecast change?

Yes. Gartner’s estimate moved between its July and October 2026 editions. The revision illustrates why a statistics page must show the forecast date next to every number.

Gartner edition 2026 IaaS forecast Worldwide IT-spending forecast
July 27, 2026 $287 billion $6.369 trillion
October 21, 2026 $292 billion $6.391 trillion

The October edition is the latest estimate in this roundup and should be used when one current figure is required. The July edition remains useful only as evidence that estimates change as demand, pricing, capacity and macroeconomic assumptions are updated.

“Data center systems and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) are the top growth segments, reflecting accelerating investment in AI infrastructure, cloud platforms, and intelligent applications.”

What cloud computing trends do these numbers support?

AI capacity is pulling infrastructure growth forward

A near-doubling forecast for AI-optimized IaaS and a 2027 increase to $66.143 billion indicate that accelerator-equipped compute, high-throughput storage and related networking are taking a larger share of infrastructure budgets. The figures do not prove that every organization is adopting AI or that workloads are profitable; they quantify supplier-side spending expectations.

Production inference is becoming as important as model training

Gartner’s $23.3 billion inference forecast versus $19 billion for training suggests that serving models in applications may overtake building them as the larger 2026 expense. Actual mix will depend on model size, utilization, optimization and pricing, so this should be treated as a directional forecast.

Provider concentration remains high

AWS, Microsoft and Google together account for most of the measured worldwide infrastructure market. Concentration can create scale and a wide service catalog, but a market-share statistic alone cannot tell a buyer whether a provider fits a particular compliance, latency, portability or cost requirement.

Growth rates depend on the denominator

The 96.4% AI-optimized-IaaS growth rate, 47% public-IaaS/PaaS growth rate and 43% broader infrastructure-services growth rate describe different populations. Comparing them as if they were competing forecasts would exaggerate or understate trends.

How should you compare cloud market statistics?

Use the following checklist before putting two figures in the same chart, budget or article.

  1. Match the reporting period. Compare annual forecasts with annual forecasts, or quarterly revenue with quarterly revenue.
  2. Match the geography. The figures here are worldwide; a country or region cannot be inferred from them.
  3. Match the market definition. Confirm whether the number covers public-cloud end-user spending, IaaS, public IaaS/PaaS or the broader infrastructure-services market.
  4. Label the evidence type. Mark forecasts as forecasts and quarterly estimates as reported market estimates.
  5. Keep share and growth separate. A provider can gain revenue while losing share if the total market grows faster.
  6. Record the edition date. Gartner’s July-to-October revision shows that an undated “2026 forecast” is incomplete.

For procurement, these distinctions prevent a common budgeting error: using a broad market-revenue number as if it were the addressable spend for one company’s IaaS workload.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Why are there not 37 independent, current statistics here?

The dated source set supports a strong market-and-spending spine but does not establish 37 separate current facts. It does not provide defensible 2026 figures for cloud-adoption rates, security incidents, data-center emissions or energy use, hybrid-cloud prevalence, migration outcomes, workforce skills or regional spending.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Adding recycled percentages from undated surveys would make the list look complete while mixing years, definitions and methodologies. A reliable statistics roundup should leave an item out when its owner, period or denominator cannot be identified. The figures above are therefore intentionally limited to measures with a named source and explicit date.

How can teams use these statistics without overinterpreting them?

  • For strategic planning: Use the $292 billion IaaS forecast as an external growth signal, not as a prediction of your own cloud bill.
  • For AI capacity planning: Separate training and inference demand in forecasts because Gartner expects inference to be the larger 2026 category.
  • For provider strategy: Treat the 28%/20%/15% shares as market-concentration context, then evaluate workload-specific cost, region, controls and portability.
  • For board reporting: Put “forecast,” “Q2 2026,” the source owner and market definition in the same chart label.
  • For trend tracking: Revisit the figures after the next Gartner forecast cycle and Synergy quarterly release; estimates are time-sensitive.

What should readers check before citing a 2026 figure?

First, verify whether a newer Gartner edition or Synergy quarter has replaced it. Second, preserve the qualifier that makes the number meaningful: worldwide, annual or quarterly, forecast or reported, and IaaS or broader infrastructure services. Finally, do not convert provider share into a quality score or convert an all-IT total into a cloud-only total.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add AWS, Microsoft and Google’s percentages to calculate the whole cloud market?

No. The rounded Q2 2026 shares describe three providers within Synergy’s worldwide cloud infrastructure-services market, while Synergy’s separate 67% figure uses a public-cloud subset. The remaining share also includes other providers and is affected by rounding.

Why do analysts publish both spending forecasts and revenue estimates?

Spending forecasts model what customers are expected to pay over a future period, while revenue estimates report what providers generated in a completed period. They serve planning and market-measurement purposes, but they are not interchangeable accounting views.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How often should a company refresh cloud-market assumptions?

Refresh assumptions at each major forecast edition or at least quarterly when capacity, pricing or AI demand is changing quickly. Keep the prior edition in an audit trail so changes in the estimate are not mistaken for changes in actual consumption.

Does AI-optimized IaaS replace ordinary IaaS?

No. AI-optimized infrastructure is a specialized portion of IaaS, typically designed for accelerated compute and high-throughput data workloads. Gartner’s AI figures should therefore be read as a subset and growth signal, not as an extra market added to total IaaS.
