The fastest way to tell whether a Windows 11 PC is ready for Bluetooth LE Audio is to open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices and look under Device settings for Use LE Audio when available. If the switch appears, the PC currently exposes LE Audio support and you can turn it on. If Microsoft’s switch is absent, Microsoft says the Windows device does not currently support LE Audio.
That check applies to the computer only. A working LE Audio connection also requires Windows 11 version 22H2 or later, a compatible Bluetooth LE radio, codec support, manufacturer-provided drivers for the radio and audio path, and headphones, earbuds or hearing aids that support LE Audio or the TMAP profile. Bluetooth LE or Bluetooth 5.3 labels by themselves do not prove compatibility.
How do I know if my Windows 11 PC supports LE Audio?
Use Windows’ own setting as the decisive user-facing test. The switch is shown only when the current Windows installation, Bluetooth hardware and installed drivers expose LE Audio capability.
- Open Settings from the Start menu or by pressing Windows key + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices in the left navigation.
- Choose Devices.
- Scroll to Device settings and find Use LE Audio when available.
Turn on the switch if you want Windows to use LE Audio whenever a compatible connection is available. Microsoft’s wording is unambiguous: “If this setting isn’t available, the Windows device doesn’t currently support LE Audio.” A missing control is therefore not a hidden preference you need to uncover; it indicates that support is unavailable in the current hardware-and-driver configuration.

The setting describes the PC’s present capability. It does not certify every connected accessory, every Bluetooth adapter, or every audio profile. The headset or earbuds must pass their own compatibility check before an LE Audio session can be established.
What does a Windows 11 PC need before the switch can appear?
Windows exposes LE Audio only when several layers agree. Meeting one requirement, such as having a recent Bluetooth radio, is not enough.
- Windows release: the computer must run Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer. Windows 10 and Windows 11 version 21H2 do not support LE Audio.
- Bluetooth LE hardware: the PC needs a Bluetooth Low Energy-capable radio that can perform the functions required by LE Audio.
- Compatible codec support: the audio hardware and software must support a codec that Windows can use for LE Audio.
- Manufacturer drivers: compatible drivers are required for both the Bluetooth LE radio and the audio codec. Windows’ generic Bluetooth capability label cannot substitute for those drivers.
- Audio-path integration: Microsoft’s implementation uses vendor-specific audio paths and the ACX audio-driver framework. The controller, codec and audio driver jointly determine whether an LE Audio endpoint can be created and which formats it can expose.
Because these dependencies are combined, two computers with apparently similar Bluetooth hardware can show different results. A firmware or driver revision from the computer or adapter manufacturer may add support later, but until a compatible driver is installed the switch can remain absent.

Which Windows versions support LE Audio?
Use Windows 11 version 22H2 as the minimum supported release. Microsoft identifies LE Audio as introduced in Windows 11 version 22H2 through update KB5026446; earlier Windows versions are outside the supported boundary.
| Windows release | LE Audio status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 10 | Not supported | Use a supported Windows 11 installation or another platform that supports LE Audio. |
| Windows 11 version 21H2 | Not supported | Upgrade Windows before investigating Bluetooth hardware. |
| Windows 11 version 22H2 | Introduced with KB5026446; hardware and drivers still required | Install current updates and check for the switch. |
| Windows 11 versions newer than 22H2 | Potentially supported; hardware, codec and drivers still determine availability | Check Use LE Audio when available rather than assuming support. |
To see your installed Windows release, open Settings > System > About and read Windows specifications. You can also open Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Updating Windows is necessary for an old release, but it cannot add a missing LE-capable radio or a driver that the manufacturer has not supplied.

Does Bluetooth 5.3 mean my laptop supports LE Audio?
No. Bluetooth Core Specification version 5.3 indicates a version of the Bluetooth standard, not a guarantee that the Windows audio stack is ready for LE Audio.
Microsoft’s platform documentation says Windows 11 version 22H2, in all editions, supports Bluetooth Core Specification 5.3. Microsoft’s LE Audio checklist still separately requires compatible codecs and manufacturer-provided drivers. A product can therefore advertise Bluetooth 5.3 or Bluetooth LE and still lack the LE Audio audio path, codec integration or driver support needed by Windows.

Confirm the Windows switch, then verify the exact computer model or Bluetooth adapter with its manufacturer. Do not infer LE Audio readiness from the Bluetooth number alone.
How do I check whether my earbuds, headset or hearing aids support LE Audio?
The computer and the accessory both need LE Audio capability. Check the accessory maker’s specifications for an explicit Bluetooth LE Audio statement or for the TMAP profile; a generic Bluetooth LE claim is not sufficient.
- Find the exact model number, including regional or generation suffixes.
- Open the manufacturer’s technical specifications or support page for that model.
- Look specifically for “LE Audio” and/or “TMAP.” Do not treat “Bluetooth 5.x” as an equivalent statement.
- Check whether the manufacturer names Windows 11, your PC model or your Bluetooth adapter as a supported host.
- Read the firmware-update policy. An accessory may require a particular firmware generation before its advertised LE Audio functions are available.
- If the specification is unclear, contact the manufacturer, as Microsoft recommends for compatibility questions.
Hearing aids are a named LE Audio use case, but they still need the appropriate profile and host support. The same two-sided check applies to earbuds, headsets and other audio accessories.

Why can’t I see the “Use LE Audio when available” option?
The missing switch means Windows does not currently support LE Audio on that device. The cause can be an excluded Windows release, unsupported hardware, an incompatible codec, or missing or incompatible manufacturer drivers.
1. The PC is on Windows 10 or Windows 11 21H2
These releases are outside Microsoft’s LE Audio support boundary. Confirm the version in Settings > System > About. If it is older than Windows 11 22H2, upgrade to a supported Windows 11 release, then check the Bluetooth devices page again.
2. The Bluetooth radio is not LE Audio-capable
A Bluetooth LE label does not prove that the radio supports the complete LE Audio feature set. If the switch remains absent on a supported Windows release, check the exact radio or adapter model in the PC maker’s documentation. An adapter replacement can help only when the new adapter, its Windows driver and the audio path are all supported; Windows cannot create LE Audio from a radio that lacks the required capability.
3. The codec or audio driver is incompatible
LE Audio endpoint creation depends on the codec and audio driver as well as the controller. Install the latest Bluetooth and audio drivers published for your precise PC model or adapter. Prefer the manufacturer’s Windows 11 package over a generic package, because Microsoft identifies manufacturer-provided LE Audio drivers as a requirement.
4. A driver update has not reached your model
Support can vary by model even within one product family. Check the manufacturer’s release notes and support page for LE Audio, Bluetooth audio, codec or ACX-related updates. If no compatible package exists, Microsoft’s switch will remain unavailable until the manufacturer supplies one.

5. You are checking the accessory instead of the PC
The Windows switch reports the computer’s capability; it does not appear merely because LE Audio earbuds are nearby. Confirm the PC first, then verify LE Audio or TMAP support for the accessory.
How do Windows drivers affect LE Audio readiness?
Microsoft describes LE Audio support as a coordinated path rather than a single Bluetooth checkbox. The Bluetooth controller, codec and audio driver participate in endpoint creation and format selection. Windows 11’s implementation uses vendor-specific audio paths with the ACX audio-driver framework, so a radio that works for ordinary Bluetooth connections may still lack the driver integration needed for LE Audio.
This explains several common observations:
- A PC can pair with ordinary Bluetooth headphones while showing no LE Audio setting.
- Installing a current Windows release may not help if the PC maker has not released compatible Bluetooth and codec drivers.
- A driver package can change the result without changing the computer’s advertised Bluetooth version.
- The switch can appear after a manufacturer update because Windows can finally create the required LE Audio endpoint.
When troubleshooting, record the PC model, Bluetooth adapter model, Windows edition and version, and the dates of the installed Bluetooth and audio drivers. Give those details to the computer or adapter manufacturer if support is unclear; they are more useful than reporting only “Bluetooth 5.3.”

What can LE Audio enable once both sides are compatible?
Microsoft identifies hearing aids, multi-device audio sharing and more efficient wireless-audio experiences as LE Audio use cases. The precise functions available to you depend on the hardware, codecs, drivers and profiles implemented by both the PC and accessory.
For that reason, the appearance of the Windows switch is a readiness signal, not a promise that every accessory will provide every LE Audio feature. Check the accessory’s specifications for the particular function you need, such as microphone support or a hearing-aid profile.
What is the quickest decision path?

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I force-enable LE Audio in Windows if the switch is missing?
No supported Windows setting can override the compatibility check. A missing switch means the current device does not support LE Audio; only a supported Windows release, compatible hardware and an appropriate manufacturer driver can change that status.
Will a USB Bluetooth adapter automatically add LE Audio to an older PC?
Not automatically. The adapter must support LE Audio, and Windows still needs compatible Bluetooth, codec and audio-path drivers. Check the adapter maker’s model-specific Windows documentation before relying on it.
Is LE Audio the same thing as Bluetooth Classic audio?
No. LE Audio uses Bluetooth Low Energy technologies and profiles, while many familiar wireless-headphone connections use classic Bluetooth audio. A device can support classic audio and Bluetooth LE without implementing LE Audio.
Do all Windows apps use LE Audio as soon as I enable the setting?
The switch makes LE Audio available when compatible hardware and profiles are present; it does not guarantee identical behavior in every application. Microphone, call and sharing functions depend on the profiles implemented by the PC, accessory and application path.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow can I confirm whether an accessory’s firmware supports LE Audio?
Use the accessory maker’s update utility or support instructions and compare the installed firmware version with the model’s LE Audio requirements. If the documentation does not identify a required version, ask the manufacturer for confirmation for the exact model.
