Short answer: Upgrade units in two separate places: spend coins on towers during a match, and improve a hero permanently in the lobby with XP, traits, stat grades, or an Enchiridion Shrine evolution. Evolution is not a reset. The shrine keeps the hero’s level, XP, and trait while changing its rarity, abilities, and role.
For most accounts, evolve Stretchy Dog (Jake) into Cosmic Dog (Alien Jake) first, then choose a boss-focused or coverage evolution that matches the stages you can already clear. A standard story recipe is 10 personal Act 5 materials, 5 Enchiridion Pages, and 1,000 Gems. The live Roblox listing describes seven worlds, 35 stages, Infinite Mode, Challenges, secret heroes, tournaments, and PvP; older guides that list five worlds and 25 stages are outdated. The official game page is Candy Kingdom Defense on Roblox.
What is the difference between upgrading and evolving a unit?
They are five different systems with different currencies and purposes. Treating them as one progression bar is the fastest way to waste a scarce item.

Gems spent at the Treasure Hoard summon a new base hero rather than evolving one already in your inventory. Keep summon spending separate from the Shrine budget.

How do I evolve in Candy Kingdom Defense?
Use the Enchiridion Shrine, not the Crafting Table. The Crafting Table is a separate building used for items such as the Mars Seal.
- Own the base hero. A form cannot be evolved unless it has been summoned or was one of your starting heroes.
- Open Areas, then Tree Fort. Enter the building labelled EVOLVE or Craft at the Enchiridion Shrine.
- Select the base form. Read every row in the materials panel: the personal item, Enchiridion Pages, and Gems. Press GO THERE beside a missing item to see the intended stage or activity.
- Farm the listed Act 5 stage. Do not confuse the first-clear reward with the replay row. On the listed story cards, each replay pays 50 Gems and one personal item.
- Win Dungeon Train Challenges. The item description awards one Enchiridion Page per Challenge win.
- Press EVOLVE only when the button is active. A grey button showing 0 of 3 ready means at least one recipe row is still incomplete.
- Verify the result. Open Units and check the new form, retained level, XP, and trait before spending more resources.
The Shrine UI transcription states that evolution keeps a hero’s level, XP, and trait. A documented Marceline run entered with level 50, the Radical trait, 12 Hunson’s Amulets, 6 Pages, and 1,145 Gems; it evolved with 10 Amulets, 5 Pages, and 1,000 Gems and retained level 50 and Radical. Its resulting profile was 2,244 damage, 2.34-second SPA, and 38 range. Those are the configured values of that copy, not universal base statistics.
What does each story evolution cost?
The Shrine cards documented for the seven story lines follow a 10-material, 5-Page, 1,000-Gem pattern. The Lich line is a stated exception, and the pattern should not be assumed for an unopened or future card.

Sandwich is Jake’s favourite thing in all of Ooo, according to the item flavour text. A video showing six sandwiches still needed was showing a remaining count, not a six-item recipe; the Shrine row requires 10.
Which evolution should I do first?
There is no studio-published evolution ranking. The order below is an efficiency recommendation based on the documented kits, farm gates, placement limits, and the live-name roster.
1. Cosmic Dog (Alien Jake) for leak control
Stretchy Dog is a free starter line for many accounts, and Ice Kingdom is the earliest commonly farmable Act 5. Cosmic Dog adds venom damage and a black-hole pull that stops leaks. Community guidance commonly overlaps two placements so enemies remain inside the control field. TechWiser’s 28 October 2026 tier list places Cosmic Dog in SS. Choose it when small enemies escaping the lane are the reason a run fails; it is less directly useful when a single boss is the only problem.
2. Marceline Beast for boss burst
Evolve Vampire Queen (Marceline) when bosses, rather than crowds, end your runs. The documented Drink the Red stages are a single-target burst button with splash. The trade-off is role compression: do not replace your only reliable lane clearer if your account still needs her base form’s coverage.

3. Adventure Man (Adult Finn) when Fire Kingdom Act 5 is already clearable
This is the sensible second or third path for players who started with Adventure Boy and can consistently farm Burning Low. The material gate matters more than a theoretical tier position; an evolution that strands your account before its Act 5 is slower than one you can finish now.
4. Game King (King BMO) for extra coverage
Game King is a luxury coverage pick after your core lane-control and boss needs are solved. Its recorded placement limit is two, and its Ultimate Adventure showcase is about 10,000 damage with listed attack speed 5.4. It overlaps some of Cosmic Dog’s wave-clear job, so it is rarely the first material sink.
5. Evolve a Mythic or Legendary you actually own
For Lemongrab 3, Prism Queen Rainicorn, or Candy Elemental, use the unit you have already pulled and can farm. Do not spend materials trying to force an evolution for a hero absent from your inventory. The same principle applies to a keeper trait and a high level: improve a hero you will carry forward, not a temporary placeholder.
How we picked
The criteria are earliest repeatable farm, the evolution’s job (wave clear, leak control, boss burst, summons, or coverage), placement limits, whether the new kit replaces the base unit’s role, and whether your existing level and trait investment survives. Community tier lists and showcases are attributed observations, not controlled testing or official rankings.
How long does one standard evolution take?
Plan around clear counts rather than a guaranteed clock time: 10 Act 5 replay wins, or 5 wins with 2x Drops, plus five Dungeon Train Challenge wins. Act 5 stages are described as roughly 8–11 waves, and each replay pays 50 Gems and one personal item. The Dungeon Train has three cars that refresh every 30 minutes, so five wins can require at least two rotations depending on which cars are available.
Farm the personal material first
Use the exact Act 5 named on the Shrine card. A first clear and a replay are different reward rows; the replay line is the one that supplies the repeatable material and 50 Gems. Do not substitute a Nightosphere Infinite reward such as Bug Milk for a story item such as a Sandwich or Hunson’s Amulet.
Run Dungeon Train for Pages
Pages are not a by-product of the Act 5 loop. Enter Dungeon Train Challenges and claim one Page for each win. Schedule around the three-car refresh instead of spending Pages or Gems on unrelated systems while waiting.

Redeem currently valid codes at Stretchy Dog’s Code Corner in Tree Fort, but treat codes as temporary: a codes list checked 25 October 2026 contained confirmed, disputed, and likely expired entries without a public expiry calendar. How do I upgrade units during a match?
In-match upgrades spend coins on a placed tower and affect only the current defense. Use the hero card or the recorded default Z hotkey. Spend for a breakpoint that stops the next leak wave instead of raising every unit evenly.

These stages are not the same as collection levels. A level-50 hero can still need several coin upgrades after placement, while a freshly evolved hero retains its lobby XP but starts each match with the normal coin path.
Showcase figures for evolved forms
Player footage and configured wiki samples illustrate roles rather than universal stat tables. A Cosmic Dog showcase reports an Ampersand Fang venom tick of about 4,500 damage and a level-50 black hole of about 11,000 damage with 43 range, full area effect, pull, and hold. The sample is one configured Hero of Ooo build, not a base-stat promise. Traits such as Oh My Glob can alter a panel substantially, so compare like-for-like builds.
How should I level, feed, and reroll a hero?
Finish useful XP before evolving
Because the Shrine retains level and XP, it is efficient to complete meaningful XP investment on the base form you are already using and then evolve it. XP Candy grants 150 XP and Big XP Candy grants 600 XP according to their item descriptions. Do not hold a keeper at level 1 merely because its evolution is unfinished.

Fix the six-slot feeding lock
If the game says Heroes on your team can’t be fed, the hero is equipped in the battle team. Unequip it from the six-slot roster, feed it from Items, then equip it again. The lock protects active team members; it is not an evolution requirement.
Reroll traits only on carry-forward bases
Trait Crystals are spent at Castle Lemongrab, and the selected trait carries into the evolved form. Avoid burning Crystals on a C-tier base you plan to discard, except for Stretchy Dog, Adventure Boy, or Game Buddy when that base is your chosen path to Cosmic Dog, Adventure Man, or Game King.

One Jake page lists Radical’s range bonus as 15% rather than 10%. Use the tooltip on your current in-game trait card if the two descriptions disagree.
Use Juice for stat grades, not traits
Units of Juice belong in the Reconditioning Chamber. They reroll Damage, Range, and SPA letter grades and do not replace the Trait Crystal system. Keep both rerolls separate from the Shrine recipe.
What do the renamed heroes mean for searches and menus?
The 24 October 2026 rename changed the live roster labels. Use the live name in UI instructions, but the older name in parentheses when searching guides.

Mars Seal and the unconfirmed secret target
The Crafting Table shows a Mars Seal recipe of 3 of every evolution item plus 10 Enchiridion Pages. Its description calls it a secret royal seal, but the UI does not name the hero. Community guesses about Magic Man becoming King Man or Mad Magician remain unconfirmed; do not stack materials for that target unless the live UI identifies it.
What mistakes slow progression?
- Counting a video’s leftovers as the recipe: read the full Shrine materials rows; the documented Sandwich recipe is 10.
- Using the wrong building: normal hero evolution is at the Enchiridion Shrine; the Crafting Table is separate.
- Confusing XP with battle upgrades: lobby XP does not buy a match’s coin stages.
- Feeding an equipped hero: unequip it from the six-slot team first.
- Spending Gems on summons during a Shrine push: Treasure Hoard pulls create new heroes and consume the same Gem reserve.
- Farming an item from the wrong activity: use the Act 5 named on the card; event drops and Infinite rewards are different economies.
- Rerolling a replaceable base: save Trait Crystals and Juice for a base that will enter your chosen evolution.
- Assuming an old name is missing: search Stretchy Dog, Adventure Boy, and the other live labels after the October rename.
- Treating showcase damage as a universal stat: trait, level, grades, and configured upgrades change the panel.
What is the most efficient progression plan?
- Keep one reliable lane clearer and one boss answer in the active team.
- Choose a carry-forward base, normally Stretchy Dog for the first evolution, and stop spending premium rerolls on units you will replace.
- Read the Shrine recipe before farming; write down the exact Act 5 and material count.
- Clear that Act 5 repeatedly while collecting its 50-Gem replay income, then run Dungeon Train when its cars refresh.
- Use codes and any owned boost before buying optional acceleration.
- Feed XP while the hero is unequipped, then reroll traits or grades only after deciding the unit’s long-term role.
- Evolve with the complete recipe, confirm that level and trait carried over, and rebuild the in-match coin path around the new kit.
- Move to a boss, coverage, or event evolution only when its farm gate and role solve a problem your current team actually has.
This approach spends each bottleneck on the system that can use it, preserves investment through evolution, and avoids chasing an unconfirmed recipe or an outdated roster name.

Where do I redeem Candy Kingdom Defense codes?
Use Stretchy Dog’s Code Corner in Tree Fort, the location named in the official game description. Codes can expire without a published schedule; examples reported as working at one October 2026 check were HALLOWEENSOON and THANKSFOR200LIKES, but their current status must be verified in-game.
Can login rewards supply Enchiridion Pages?
Yes. The documented extra sources include five Pages on day seven of the login streak and three in the Starter Pack. These are supplements to Dungeon Train wins, not replacements for the Shrine recipe.
How does the Lich Portal pay for Jake the Lich?
The item description shows a 30% Lich Portal display every ten Infinite waves, while the Lich evolution card uses five Lich Ooze and ten Pages. This event-like route is separate from the standard 10-material, five-Page story pattern.
How much do Treasure Hoard summons cost?
The recorded interface lists 50 Gems for one pull and 450 Gems for ten pulls. Summons produce new base heroes, so those prices should be budgeted separately from the 1,000-Gem Shrine evolution cost.
