Yes—but you need to deal with the Discord message and the Google result separately. Delete the message in Discord first. If Google still shows an outdated result after the public Discord page no longer contains the message, submit that result’s exact URL to Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool. That tool updates Search; it does not delete the message from Discord or remove copies hosted elsewhere.
This applies to messages displayed on public web pages for Discoverable Servers, not to every Discord message. As of October 30, 2026, Discord says Server Web Pages for every Discoverable Server will start November 16, and messages from public channels may begin appearing in web search in mid-December. An early pilot is already visible on some Server Web Pages; Discord says messages sent before the mid-December rollout are not shown through this feature.
Will deleting a Discord message remove it from Google?
Deleting the original message is the essential first step, but it does not make a Google result disappear instantly. Discord controls the message and its public page; Google controls whether an already indexed page or snippet continues to appear in Search.
Discord says messages sent while its web-sharing setting was enabled stay online unless the sender deletes them from Discord. Once the source page no longer contains the message, Google can process the changed page or a request to refresh its result. Google says that process can take a few days, but that is not a guaranteed deadline.

There are therefore two different outcomes to check: whether the message is still visible on the Discord web page, and whether Google still displays an old result. A Google result can lag behind the live source. Conversely, asking Google to refresh a result cannot remove content that is still present on the source page.
Which Discord messages can appear in Google Search?
The relevant feature is Discord’s web presence for Discoverable Servers and public channels. It should not be treated as evidence that private servers, direct messages, or every historical Discord post are exposed to Google.
Discord’s published rollout dates matter. As of October 29, 2026, Discord says that every Discoverable Server will have a Server Web Page starting November 16, 2026. It says Channel Messages from public channels may begin appearing in web search in mid-December 2026, while an early pilot is already visible on some Server Web Pages. Discord also says messages sent before that mid-December rollout are not shown through this feature. The dates describe the announced feature rollout, not a guarantee that a particular page or message will be indexed by Google.
If a result appears to show a Discord message, open the result and identify the actual page it points to. This helps establish whether the content is on a Discord Server Web Page or on a separate site that copied, quoted, archived, or reposted it. The steps below address the Discord source page and Google Search result; a copy on another site has its own owner and removal process.

How do I remove an old Discord message from search results?
Work from the source outward: delete the message in Discord, verify the public page has changed, and then ask Google to refresh the stale result if it remains. The sequence matters because Google’s tool is for outdated Search content, not for editing a live Discord page.
- Delete the message in Discord. If you sent it and still have access to the space, delete that specific message. If it belongs to another user in a guild channel, a moderator needs the
MANAGE_MESSAGESpermission to delete it. Discord’s API documents a successful delete operation as returning HTTP 204; that is a technical success status, not a promise about Google’s timing. - Turn off future web visibility if you do not want later messages shown. In Discord, go to User Settings > Data & Privacy and turn off the setting for showing message content from Discoverable channels on web pages. This affects future publication; it does not retroactively remove messages already sent while the setting was enabled.
- Check the public Discord page. Visit the Server Web Page associated with the result and confirm the message is no longer present. If it is still visible there, Google has no outdated page to refresh: the live source has to change first.
- Submit a Google refresh request if the old result persists. Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool is intended for a page or image that no longer exists or has had important content deleted, when the requester does not own the page. Enter the exact URL of the result and submit the request.
- Recheck the result after processing. Google says requests can take a few days to process. If the page is gone, an approved request should stop it from appearing. If the page remains but has changed, Google may remove the old snippet while the result itself remains until Google crawls the page again.
Does turning off Discord web visibility delete old posts?
No. The visibility setting is a control for later messages, not a retroactive cleanup tool. Discord’s guidance is explicit: “Messages you sent while it was on stay up unless you delete them from Discord.”
That means changing the setting alone does not complete the removal of a message already exposed on a Server Web Page. Delete the particular message in Discord, then check the page. The setting is useful alongside deletion if you also want to prevent future messages in eligible Discoverable channels from being shown on web pages.

Why does Google still show a deleted Discord message?
A stale Google result does not necessarily mean the message is still live. Search results can continue to reflect a page as it appeared before Discord changed it, because Google has to process the missing or revised source content.
Use the result’s destination and the live page to diagnose the delay:
- The message is still on the Discord page: the source change is incomplete. Delete the message in Discord, or ask a moderator with the required permission to remove another member’s message.
- The message is gone from the Discord page but remains in Search: the Search result may be stale. Submit its exact URL through Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool.
- The result points to another site: Google’s refresh of the Discord page will not remove a separately hosted copy. The site or person controlling that copy must address it.
- The title or snippet is old but the page remains: Google may update the old snippet after a refresh request, while the result remains until its crawler revisits the page.
Do not interpret “a few days” as an SLA or fixed removal window. Google describes it as a possible processing period, and the result’s continued presence can depend on whether the page itself is gone or has only changed.

Each action has a different target, controller, and scope. Choosing the right one prevents the common mistake of treating Google Search as if it were the original host.

Deleting the Discord message does not establish that every copy is erased from every system. Discord’s privacy policy says content may be retained in limited circumstances even after deletion of content or an account. For that reason, distinguish removal from the active message and public-facing page from a guarantee of irreversible deletion everywhere.
What if I cannot delete the message myself?
If you sent the message but no longer have access to the space, Discord’s cited guidance does not provide a self-service deletion path for that situation. In a guild channel, a moderator with MANAGE_MESSAGES can delete another user’s message; they can also verify whether it has disappeared from the public page.
If the message has already been deleted at the source but Google still displays the old result, that is a separate Search issue. The Refresh Outdated Content tool is the relevant route for a result whose page no longer exists or whose important content has been removed, when you do not own the page.

Google’s tool updates how Search presents a result; it does not change Discord or remove the underlying page. Google says processing can take a few days, and what happens next depends on the live page’s state.

- If the page no longer exists: after an approved request, it should no longer appear in Search.
- If the page still exists but the message has been deleted: Google may remove the outdated snippet, but the result can remain until the page is crawled again.
- If the page still contains the message: refreshing the result is not a substitute for changing the source. Complete the Discord deletion first.
There is no supported basis here for promising removal within a particular number of hours, guaranteeing approval, or saying that one request removes every result or copy. Check the exact result and its destination rather than assuming all appearances of the same text are controlled by one request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Discord moderator delete a message I posted?
A guild-channel moderator can delete another user’s message if they have Discord’s MANAGE_MESSAGES permission. That can address the source message when you cannot remove it yourself, but Google’s Search result still has to be handled separately if it remains stale.
What if a Google result links to a screenshot or repost instead of Discord?
That is a separate copy, not the Discord Server Web Page. A refresh request for the Discord URL does not control a different site’s page; the copy’s publisher or host would need to address it.
Does deleting my Discord account guarantee the message disappears everywhere?
No such guarantee is established. Discord’s privacy policy says content may be retained in limited circumstances after deletion of content or an account, so deleting the individual message is the cited action for removing it from Discord’s active representation.
