Wyze Palm Lock can let you unlock a compatible deadbolt with a palm scan, but it does not require you to give up keys: Wyze also lists access codes, app control, integrations and a physical key as entry methods. “Biometric” here means contactless palm-vein recognition—not fingerprint scanning. Wyze says enrolled scans and codes are encrypted and stored locally on the lock; those are manufacturer statements, not independently audited findings.
What Wyze means by a biometric palm lock
The Palm Lock scans palm-vein patterns when you hold an open hand roughly 3–7 inches from its screen. Wyze says enrollment may take up to 30 seconds. It is distinct from Wyze Lock Bolt, which uses fingerprint recognition. Wyze describes the Palm Lock with the phrase “The key is the palm of your hand.” That is product marketing, not a promise that the lock has no other way in.
Wyze lists the lock as a deadbolt replacement. Its product introduction also says it is BHMA3 certified; that is Wyze’s stated specification, not an independently verified certification record here. Wyze’s product introduction and palm setup instructions explain the feature and enrollment.
Ways to unlock it if you do not use your palm
Wyze lists multiple alternatives, so a palm scan is not the only route into the home:

#1 Best Overall
- Contactless Palm Vein Recognition — Wyze Palm Lock uses a highly secure biometric technology that reads the unique vein pattern beneath your palm. Simply hover your hand to unlock—no touch needed. Faster and more reliable than fingerprints.
- Dual-Battery System with Emergency Charging — A 6-month main battery is backed by a 2-week secondary battery. If both drain, use the integrated USB-C port and any power bank for an emergency charge—ensuring you're never locked out.
- Peace of Mind with Auto Lock — A built-in gyroscope detects the angle and movement of the door in real time. Once it senses the door has closed then it automatically locks, preventing false or jammed locks.
- Secure & Shareable Access Codes — Create up to 50 unique or one-time guest codes on the illuminated keypad. Our Anti-Peep Technology keeps every code secure, allowing you to add extra digits before or after your real PIN to prevent snooping.
- Smart Battery Saver — Wyze Palm Lock is equipped with millimeter wave radar, the same used in self-driving cars. It scans for the presence of a person (not just movement) and only “wakes up” the lock when a person is detected.
- Access code: Enter a code at the lock’s keypad. Wyze says up to 50 codes can be added per device.
- App and integrations: Wyze lists app control and compatible integrations as unlock options.
- Physical key: The lock retains a keyway for conventional entry.
For details on available methods, see Wyze’s unlock instructions and access-code setup guide.
What Wyze says about palm and code privacy
Wyze says enrolled palm scans are encrypted and stored locally on the lock, inaccessible to Wyze, with a limit of 50 registered palms per device. It also says access codes are encrypted and stored locally, and that Wyze cannot access codes or access history. These are the manufacturer’s privacy claims. The available documentation does not establish an independent security audit or test of the biometric system.

Check your door before buying
The Palm Lock is intended to replace a deadbolt, and door dimensions and hardware affect whether it fits. Wyze says it supports most standard US doors with a thickness of 35–55 mm; its guidance says not to install it on a door thinner than 35 mm. Check the existing lock and measurements against Wyze’s door-compatibility guidance before ordering.
Wyze flags mortise or integrated lock-and-handle hardware, rim cylinders, Dutch doors and storm doors as cases with compatibility caveats. A nonstandard installation may need drilling, chiseling or additional tools. Wyze specifically discourages storm-door installation because it can affect battery life. The official installation guide specifies a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Battery life, charging and backup access
Wyze advertises up to six months of life for the removable main battery. It says a backup battery can keep the lock operating for up to two weeks while the main battery charges. If power is unavailable, Wyze says emergency USB-C charging can provide power to enter an access code. These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results; actual battery life can vary with use and installation conditions. Wyze also describes automatic locking after the door closes.
