Sometimes—but not by installing Windows directly, and there is no blanket guarantee that a particular program or accessory will work. The MacBook Neo runs macOS on Apple’s A18 Pro chip. Parallels Desktop has been reported to run Windows 11 in a virtual machine on the Neo, which may suit light, occasional Windows tasks. Whether your exact app works depends on its Windows-on-Arm and emulation compatibility, performance needs, graphics requirements, and any drivers or devices it relies on. The same is true of accessories: a port that fits does not guarantee the necessary macOS driver or support inside a Windows virtual machine.
How can Windows software run on a MacBook Neo?
The Neo does not turn into a Windows laptop. Its normal operating system is macOS; the reported way to use Windows software locally is to run Windows 11 in a virtual machine with Parallels Desktop. A virtual machine runs Windows as software inside macOS, rather than replacing macOS or starting Windows directly when you turn on the Mac.
Microsoft’s published guidance describes authorized use of Arm versions of Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise with Parallels on Apple silicon Macs with M1, M2, and M3 chips. That guidance is useful context, but it does not name the A18 Pro or certify the Neo specifically. Neo-specific reporting came later: MacRumors reported on March 13, 2026 that Parallels had completed initial usability testing, confirmed installation and stable virtual machines, and was still doing full validation and performance testing at that time. A virtual machine starting successfully only answers the first. Windows in a virtual machine also shares the computer’s resources with macOS, so the app’s demands matter.

Can I install Windows with Boot Camp instead?
No: Apple’s Boot Camp instructions cover Intel-based Mac models, while the Neo uses an A18 Pro chip. Do not plan on using Boot Camp to install Windows directly or dual-boot the Neo. The documented route discussed for this model is virtualization, not a native Windows installation. This distinction is important if your workflow depends on starting Windows before macOS, Windows-only hardware drivers, or a program that expects direct access to a PC’s hardware. A virtual machine can run many ordinary applications, but it is not equivalent to a Windows PC for every device or workload.
Will a specific Windows program work?
There is no reliable yes-or-no answer without the program’s exact name and version. Check the app publisher’s current Windows-on-Arm support statement, then check the requirements that matter to that application: architecture, drivers, graphics APIs, anti-cheat systems, and whether it depends on virtualization or specialized hardware.

Arm-native apps and x86/x64 apps
Windows 11 for this setup is an Arm version of Windows. An application whose publisher supports Windows on Arm is the clearest candidate. Microsoft says x86 and x64 apps can run through emulation in the Apple-silicon setup described in its guidance, but that does not mean every older Windows program will behave correctly or quickly. Emulation can address some application compatibility, but it does not supply a missing driver or remove an app’s hardware requirements.

Check the publisher’s support page for the exact edition and version you use. If the app requires a device driver, kernel-level component, specialized licensing key, anti-cheat system, or a particular graphics feature, ask the publisher whether that exact component is supported in Windows 11 on Arm running in a virtual machine. A general statement that an app supports Windows 11 may not answer those more specific questions.
Graphics-heavy and demanding work
Parallels’ reported guidance draws a practical line between light productivity and sustained or graphics-intensive work. MacRumors quoted its guidance that light, occasional use—such as a legacy business tool or Windows-only utility—may provide an acceptable experience. Ars Technica reported cautions against CAD, 3D rendering, and graphics-heavy Windows applications. Treat those as workload guidance, not performance measurements for every app or configuration.
The Neo has an A18 Pro with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, and Apple lists 8GB of unified memory. That 8GB is the installed amount in the cited specification, which does not list a higher-memory configuration. macOS and the virtual machine both need memory while you work, so an app that expects abundant memory or graphics resources is a poor candidate. Use the exact application, version, device, and task you need—not a broad label such as “Office software” or “printer.” A short compatibility check can help reveal whether the obstacle is Windows-on-Arm support, the virtual machine, a driver, a connection, or performance.

- Identify the exact software. Note its name, version, edition, and any plug-ins or add-ons you rely on. Ask the vendor whether that release supports Windows 11 on Arm, and whether it supports running in a virtual machine.
- Check dependencies beyond the app itself. Look for a required driver, anti-cheat component, graphics API, license dongle, specialized hardware, or other low-level component. Confirm each with the software or hardware vendor; an application running under emulation does not establish that its dependencies will work.
- Match the workload to the Neo. Consider whether your typical work is light and occasional or long-running and CPU-, GPU-, or memory-intensive. Based on the reported Parallels guidance, CAD, 3D rendering, and graphics-heavy work should be treated cautiously rather than assumed to be suitable.
- Check every accessory by model and connection. Record its model, connector, protocol, and operating-system driver needs. Confirm macOS support for use directly in macOS, or ask whether the Windows driver and device work inside a Windows 11 Arm virtual machine.
- Test the complete workflow. If the software is important, test the same app version, accessory, files, and task you use in practice. Confirm not only that the app opens, but that the necessary features work and performance is acceptable.
- Have a fallback for critical work. If the vendor does not support the setup or a successful test is essential, use a Windows PC or a Windows Cloud PC option supported for that workflow instead of assuming the Neo will substitute for one.
Can I use my USB accessories, dock, and monitor?
The Neo’s ports and wireless specifications tell you what kinds of connections it has; they do not prove that a particular peripheral has a compatible macOS driver or will work inside Windows in a virtual machine. Check the device maker’s support information for the exact model and operating system before relying on it.

Apple’s listed port count can help determine whether you need a hub for physical connections. A USB-C hub with HDMI or USB-A can add ports, but it cannot create a missing operating-system driver or make unsupported Windows hardware work inside a virtual machine. For a display setup, check the whole chain—Neo port, dock or adapter, cable, and monitor—against Apple’s one-external-display limit and the monitor’s intended resolution and refresh rate. Is a virtual machine, another Windows computer, or a cloud PC the better fit?
The right option depends on whether you need occasional access to a Windows app or a fully supported Windows workflow. Compare software and driver support, graphics needs, memory headroom, licensing, and whether Windows must run locally.

Microsoft’s guidance describes Windows 365 as a Windows Cloud PC service offered per user per month and aimed at organizational use. That can be relevant when Windows must be available but does not need to run locally; confirm current service terms and whether your organization can provide it. It is a different model from installing a Windows virtual machine on your Neo.

What does Windows licensing cost or require?
Microsoft’s cited guidance says a separate Windows 11 Pro license is required if you do not already have one, and that each Windows 11 Pro instance requires a unique license. Check Microsoft’s current licensing and edition terms before buying, because they may change. That Windows license is separate from any virtualization software subscription or purchase; confirm the current terms for the software you choose.
Do not buy a license or computer on the assumption that licensing alone guarantees compatibility. A correctly licensed Windows virtual machine can still be a poor fit if the application vendor does not support Windows on Arm, a required driver is unavailable, or the workload exceeds what the Neo can handle alongside macOS.

- “The VM installed, so my app is supported.” Installation only shows that Windows started. Test the application’s key functions and any components it depends on.
- “The app supports Windows 11, so it supports Windows on Arm.” Those are not identical claims. Verify Arm support, emulation behavior, and any app-specific limitations with the publisher.
- “The plug fits, so the accessory works.” A matching USB-C or Bluetooth connection does not establish driver availability or feature support in macOS or the virtual machine.
- “A dock can add any display setup I need.” A dock adds connections, but Apple lists support for one external display up to native 4K at 60Hz. Verify the complete display chain and do not assume extra ports change that limit.
- “A Windows driver will work because Windows is running.” The Windows version is Arm-based and runs virtually on a Mac. Confirm support for that environment with the hardware vendor.
- “A light test proves it is good for all-day work.” A brief launch or simple task does not establish sustained performance for a long, demanding workload. Test the way you actually intend to use the software.
What is established—and what still depends on your setup?
Apple’s specifications establish the Neo’s A18 Pro chip, 8GB unified memory, listed ports and wireless capabilities, and one-external-display ceiling. Apple’s Boot Camp support page describes Intel-based Mac models, not an A18 Pro Neo. Microsoft’s cited guidance discusses Parallels and Windows 11 Arm for M1, M2, and M3 Macs, not this Neo model. Neo-specific virtualization evidence comes from the reports by MacRumors and Ars Technica in March 2026, including Parallels’ reported initial usability result and workload cautions.
None of those sources can certify an unspecified reader’s app version, printer, dock, game, driver, or accessory. Exact compatibility depends on the model and software version, vendor support, and sometimes a hands-on test. For a mission-critical workflow, do not treat a general report that Windows runs on the Neo as a substitute for confirming your complete setup.

Can I play Windows games on the MacBook Neo?
It depends on the game’s architecture, graphics requirements, anti-cheat system, and support for Windows on Arm and virtual machines. Games that rely on particular graphics features or anti-cheat components need confirmation from the publisher; the available workload guidance cautions against graphics-heavy Windows use.
Can I connect a Windows printer to the MacBook Neo?
Possibly, if the printer supports macOS directly or its required Windows driver works in the Windows virtual machine. Check the printer maker’s support page for your exact model and driver; a USB connection by itself is not proof of compatibility.
Can the MacBook Neo run Windows without an internet connection?
A locally running virtual machine is distinct from a streamed Cloud PC, so an internet connection is not inherently needed just to run an already installed local environment. Individual apps, activation, cloud files, or licensing checks may still require connectivity.
Can I move files between macOS and Windows on the Neo?
