Yes—if it has a modern dedicated GPU and you match the workload to its configuration. A Lenovo Legion 5i can plausibly edit video, run a game, and stream concurrently at moderate settings, but that conclusion is based on published hardware and software requirements rather than a controlled test of all three tasks together. The exact generation, CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD capacity, footage codec and resolution, editing effects, game settings, OBS scene complexity, encoder, and stream output determine whether the workflow remains smooth.
For example, a current U.S. Legion 5i Gen 10 configuration has an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU and 16 GB of memory, while a Gen 9 listing pairs an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU with the same 16 GB RAM but a larger SSD. Both are credible starting points for HD work and moderate streaming. Four-kilometer editing, heavy effects, complex scenes, or demanding games put more pressure on the 16 GB memory configuration.
What does “Legion 5i” mean for this workload?
“Legion 5i” is a product family, not one fixed specification. You must identify the exact generation, screen size, processor, graphics processor, memory and storage before applying any performance conclusion.
Two Lenovo listings illustrate why the model name alone is insufficient:

Regional versions and other configurations can differ. Check the model number on the laptop, invoice or Lenovo support page, then verify the installed GPU, RAM and free storage. A Gen 10 label does not automatically establish a particular frame rate or export time, and a Gen 9 label does not automatically make a machine unsuitable.
Is 16 GB of RAM enough for editing, gaming and streaming?
It is a sensible starting point for HD editing, but it is below Adobe’s recommendation for 4K and higher. Adobe’s Premiere technical requirements, updated October 7, 2026, list 16 GB RAM for HD media and 32 GB or more for 4K and above, along with 8 GB of GPU memory. See the current requirements at Adobe’s Premiere technical requirements.
| Editing target | Adobe memory guidance | How a 16 GB Legion 5i fits |
|---|---|---|
| HD media | 16 GB | Matches the stated baseline, leaving less headroom when a game and OBS are open. |
| 4K or higher | 32 GB or more | Below the recommendation; playback and multitasking are more constrained, especially with complex codecs or effects. |
RAM is shared by Premiere, the game, OBS, background services and cached media. A timeline that plays acceptably by itself can become less responsive when those applications compete for memory. The 8 GB graphics-memory requirement is met by both example GPUs, but meeting a requirement does not guarantee a specific result under a simultaneous workload.

Can the laptop edit, stream and play a game at the same time?
Probably for moderate HD projects and sensible game and stream settings; no published source verifies a universal three-way performance level. Video editing stresses CPU cores, GPU acceleration, memory and storage while decoding footage and applying effects. A game adds a sustained graphics and CPU load. Streaming adds real-time encoding and compositing, and OBS load changes with encoder choice, output resolution, frame rate and scene complexity.

OBS explicitly warns that a compatible system is not automatically guaranteed to stream or record successfully. Its system-requirements page, dated August 25, 2021, says CPU requirements vary substantially with encoder, resolution, frames per second and scene complexity, and recommends using the Auto Configuration Wizard: OBS Studio system requirements. Treat that guidance as a way to configure and test, not as a promise of zero dropped frames.
The practical limit is usually the busiest moment: a complex game scene, a high-bitrate stream, several browser sources in OBS, and an effects-heavy timeline can arrive together. Lowering one or more settings can restore headroom without abandoning the combined workflow.
How should you verify your exact Legion 5i before relying on it?
Use this check before installing a large project or planning a live broadcast:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Record the configuration. Note the generation, processor, exact RTX model, GPU memory, installed RAM and SSD capacity. Do not infer these from “Legion 5i” alone.
- Classify the footage. Write down HD or 4K resolution, codec, frame rate, number of video layers and the effects you use most often.
- Define the stream. Set the intended game resolution, stream output resolution and frame rate, encoder and OBS scene sources.
- Check storage headroom. Keep applications, cache and active media on fast storage. Adobe recommends a fast internal SSD for the application and cache plus an additional high-speed drive for media.
- Run OBS Auto Configuration Wizard. Let OBS propose a starting configuration, then test the actual game, scene collection and output settings you intend to use.
- Perform a representative rehearsal. Play the target game while recording a short edit timeline and running the planned OBS scenes. Watch for timeline stutter, encoder overload, dropped frames and storage warnings rather than assuming the specification guarantees them.
Which settings give the Legion 5i the most headroom?
Start with the settings that reduce load while preserving the viewer’s and editor’s priorities. Change one variable at a time so you can identify what solved a problem.

Game settings
- Begin at the game resolution and quality preset you actually need, then reduce expensive effects or resolution scaling if the stream or edit becomes unstable.
- Cap the game’s frame rate when an uncapped rate consumes resources that OBS or Premiere needs.
- Use the laptop’s performance profile only when its cooling and power conditions are appropriate; a profile change is not a substitute for testing the complete workload.
OBS settings
- Run the Auto Configuration Wizard first, because OBS says encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity materially change requirements.
- Keep scenes purposeful. Multiple animated, browser-based or high-resolution sources add compositing work even when the game itself is light.
- Test the exact output resolution and frame rate rather than assuming a lower-resolution preview represents the final stream.
Premiere settings
- For HD, 16 GB aligns with Adobe’s stated memory guidance, but close other applications when possible to preserve headroom for the game and OBS.
- For 4K or higher, plan around Adobe’s 32 GB-or-more recommendation. If the installed machine remains at 16 GB, use a proxy workflow or reduce concurrent applications when playback is strained.
- Keep cache and active media on fast storage. Adobe’s recommendation for an additional high-speed media drive is about workflow throughput, not simply owning a larger disk.
How much do resolution, codec and effects change the answer?
Resolution is only the first variable. Two projects labelled “4K” can behave very differently depending on codec, frame rate, number of streams, color effects, noise reduction, transitions and whether media is compressed in a way that is expensive to decode. A simple cut sequence may be manageable where multicamera footage and several GPU-heavy effects are not.
Concurrent use magnifies those differences. Premiere may need memory for source frames and previews while OBS composites scenes and the game reserves GPU resources. Therefore, describe a 16 GB system as more constrained for 4K multitasking, not as incapable of opening 4K footage. Proxies, fewer active effects and a less demanding game preset are practical ways to lower the peak load; they are recommendations, not measurements from a Legion 5i test.
Does SSD capacity matter when all three applications are active?
Capacity determines how comfortably you can keep projects, cache files and recordings locally; speed and free space affect the workflow. The Gen 10 example has a 512 GB SSD, while the Gen 9 example has 1 TB. Neither capacity by itself proves faster editing or streaming.
| Storage concern | Why it matters | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Application and cache drive | Premiere needs fast storage for application operations and cache. | Keep adequate free space and avoid filling the system drive with old recordings. |
| Active media | Large source files and previews can compete with applications for space and sustained I/O. | Use an additional high-speed drive for media when your footage volume warrants it, as Adobe recommends. |
| Recordings and exports | Streaming tests and exports can consume space quickly. | Archive completed projects or move them to another fast drive before the working disk becomes cramped. |
An external SSD can be useful when it provides the speed and connection your workflow needs, but whether you need one depends on footage volume, project location and available internal space. The published specifications do not establish a universal external-drive requirement.

How should you compare two Legion 5i configurations?
Compare the parts that affect your workload, not the generation number in isolation.
| Comparison axis | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| CPU | What exact processor is installed, and does your edit rely heavily on CPU decoding or effects? |
| GPU | Which RTX model is fitted, how much graphics memory does it have, and what power rating is specified? |
| System RAM | Does installed memory match Adobe’s target for your resolution while leaving room for OBS and the game? |
| Storage | Is the SSD capacity sufficient for applications, cache, source media and recordings, and do you have fast media storage? |
| Workload | Are you editing HD or 4K, using demanding effects, playing at high settings, and streaming at what resolution and FPS? |
The Gen 10 listing’s RTX 5060, Core Ultra 7 255HX and 512 GB SSD should be evaluated against the Gen 9 listing’s RTX 4060 at 115 W, Core i7-14650HX and 1 TB SSD in the context of your software and files. The specifications alone do not provide a controlled ranking for simultaneous editing, streaming and gaming.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do when the combined workload stutters?
Identify the symptom before changing hardware or replacing the laptop:
Recommended Free Tools
- Timeline playback stutters: reduce preview quality, enable proxies for difficult footage, close unnecessary applications and simplify active effects.
- Game frame rate falls while streaming: lower game quality or resolution, cap the game frame rate and retest the OBS output settings.
- OBS reports dropped frames or encoder overload: rerun the Auto Configuration Wizard, reduce output resolution or FPS, simplify scenes and test the selected encoder.
- Applications slow when files are open: check free SSD space and move media or recordings to a fast additional drive.
- 4K work remains consistently constrained: treat 16 GB as below Adobe’s recommendation, use proxies and reduce concurrent tasks, or choose a configuration with at least the stated 32 GB-or-more target.
These steps improve the odds of a stable workflow, but no setting list can guarantee a result across every codec, game, scene collection and project.

Which Legion 5i workload is realistic?
The following expectations stay within what the published specifications and requirements support:
| Workload | Reasonable expectation | Main qualification |
|---|---|---|
| HD editing plus occasional gaming | Good starting case for a 16 GB configuration. | Effects, codec and background applications still determine responsiveness. |
| HD editing, gaming and moderate streaming | Plausible on a suitable RTX configuration after OBS setup and testing. | No controlled Legion 5i benchmark establishes FPS or dropped-frame rates. |
| 4K editing while gaming and streaming | Possible with compromises such as proxies, simpler scenes or lower game settings. | Adobe recommends 32 GB or more, so 16 GB has less headroom. |
| Effects-heavy 4K, demanding game and complex stream scenes | High-risk combination for a 16 GB model. | Exact behavior depends on codec, effects, encoder, resolution and thermals; test the complete setup. |
So, should you use a Lenovo Legion 5i for all three tasks?
Use it confidently for moderate HD editing, gaming and streaming if the exact configuration has a dedicated RTX GPU, sufficient free SSD space and a workflow you have rehearsed. Plan more carefully for 4K: Adobe’s 32 GB-or-more guidance makes a 16 GB model a constrained multitasking platform, even though it can still open and edit 4K media with proxies and reduced concurrency.
The responsible buying or setup decision is therefore configuration-specific. Confirm the CPU, GPU, GPU memory, RAM and SSD, define your actual footage and stream settings, configure OBS with its wizard, and test the busiest combination before committing to a live production or a large project. Published specifications support a qualified “yes,” not a guaranteed frame rate, export time, thermal result or zero dropped frames.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a 16 GB Legion 5i for 4K editing if I create proxies?
Yes, proxies can make difficult 4K footage easier to decode during editing by substituting lighter working files. The final export still uses the original media, and Adobe’s 32 GB-or-more recommendation remains the better target when Premiere, a game and OBS must stay open together.
Will the 1 TB Legion 5i export video faster than the 512 GB version?
Not necessarily. The Gen 9 listing’s 1 TB SSD mainly provides more room for source media, cache and recordings; export speed depends on the complete CPU, GPU, storage behavior and project workload. Capacity alone is not a performance benchmark.
Is the Gen 10 Legion 5i automatically better than every Gen 9 model?
No. The cited Gen 10 and Gen 9 configurations use different CPUs and GPUs, and the Gen 9 listing specifies a 115 W RTX 4060. Compare the exact parts, memory, storage and intended resolution rather than relying on the generation label.
How reliable are OBS system requirements for a current setup?
OBS’s cited requirements page is dated August 25, 2021 and deliberately notes that encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity change the load. Use its Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then validate the current OBS version and your own scenes with a representative rehearsal.
